View Full Version : What do you eat before going to bed?

I've been having a meal replacement shake and some peanut butter for a while now and was thinking of switching to food for a change. What do you think would be better, egg whites and a healthy fat source (flax or peanuts) or just a good old steak. My current goals are to pack on muscle w/out getting to fat. 1-2 lbs a month is fine with me if they are quality pounds. Any suggestions?

Hey Latman, hows it going?
I usually eat a can of tuna before going to bed.
Egg whites sounds like a really good idea, though.
I also drink a protein shake in the middle of the night.
Hope that helps.

By the way, Latman - do you have a sidekick and whats your superpower? LOL

Thanks man. Na, no sidekick yet, maybe I can get Cackerot to join forces with me. LOL! I have the power to deadlift more than any man alive(well not yet, but I'm working on it).

Hey, Hulk - I know you're a smartass! :D

I'm not trying to be one, but should't you be taking in more carbs after working out?

I eat at least 125carbs after working out.

David

...unless, of course, the cell-tech contains all of the carbs! LOL

My spot training meal is 58 carbs..

The protein shake has 12 in, the half cell tech has 35 in and the banana has 20...

I am progressing great like this.. Bear in mind I have a diet coach who I follow, and will conitnue to do so while I progress as quickly as I am...

Also I am thinking about eating some more carbs an hour after..

Well, its used to be just water, but my buddy cemm has informed me that due to my advanced age, I should include glut. So, water and glutamine. :)

I usually include tuna, milk, and cottage cheese. One thing to remember is that you would want a slow absorbing protein at night to give your muscles sort of a trickle effect of nutrients. Whey protien goes through you too quick, thats why i stick to something with more casein.

I've also seen a study where people were trying to lose bf and gain muscle, and they were taking either whey or casein as part of the program. Casein came out on top as far as most bodyfat lost and most muscle gained between the groups. Just something to think about.

Why the asprin Gino?

Is this some magical secret of bodybuilding that i have not been informed about?...

I'm full of wierd knowledge: I'm trying to lose bodyfat and anything that gives me the slightest edge helps. Aspirin is safe to take every day and since it raises core body temperature, it puts your body in a better state to shed fat. It's like a safe, super weak clenbuterol.

12oz can of tuna(6oz not enough) or 10 egg whites. Also, 2 tbsps of peanut butter.

Gino: it seems like you have been dieting for ages now!

When are you gonna post some pics? From the torso pics you posted on MM.com i think i have a similar build and frame to you.(how tall are you?)

What if you get a headache or something, wouldn't your body not be responsive to the asprin you take to stop it, cause it's used to it?

Actually, asprin is one of the pain relievers that doesnt affect testostrone levels, from what I have read and heard. Also taking asprin on a regulary basis, everyday meaning, can slow down muscle growth, but who knows.

this is what i heard:

"Additionally, aspirin has also been shown to inhibit the normal increases in Testosterone seen when humans were given hCG"

Conte D, et al. "Aspirin inhibits androgen response to chorionic gonadotropin in humans." Am J Physiol 1999 Dec; 277(6 pt 1):E 1032

i've also read that it doesn't even offer much of a thermogenic effect at all and should not be included in a fat lose program.

"Recent research seems to contradict this however. At a study at The University of London's Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, 40 women (20 non-obese and 20 obese) were given either ephedrine and caffeine (30 mg and 100 mg) or ephedrine, caffeine and aspirin (30 mg, 100 mg, and 300 mg) post prandially (1050 kJ liquid meal). Using indirect calorimetry, observations were made in all groups every 30 minutes for 160 minutes. There was no significant differences between the groups that received aspirin and the groups that did not. We conclude that aspirin does not potentiate the acute thermic effect of ephedrine and caffeine"

I'm currently taking a pre bed meal of a large bowl of pasta and 4 scoops of n large in a pint of milk.
I know this is kinda a lot of carbs before bed (it's a total of about 1400 kcal) but hell I'm not putting on any fat and I'm growing like a bit.ch...

Chicken Daddy - It's been a while and I finally made my goal of 6.5% bf. I upped my calories slightly last week to see if I can put on some LBM without adding bf. I'm really just experimenting with different diet techniques now to get to know how my body reacts to different nutrient ratios, and calorie changes a little better.

5'10"
189lbs
6.5 % bf

2 ISP shakes
or
Peanuts to avoid hunger pains (high fat, medium calories)
or
Vegan Chili (not too bad, but it tastes good).

If I'm smart, the ISP shakes are preferable.
