Alright, first journal entry, Brady says these journals help so...
Me and my friend Brady (http://wannabebigforums.com/showthread.php?p=1174200#post1174200) are on our new lifting routine. We do an upper/lower split on m/t/t/f. This week though, were lifting wednesday and thursday, and taking friday off. We thought the school gym schedule wouldnt allow for friday lifting, but today we found out differently. We can go in there on any day after school, which is definately awesome.

Deadlifts

I was suprised at how decent my form was on the heavier sets. I haven't been doing deadlifts correctely for very long. But today I was happy with my sets.

DB Lunges

Standing calf raises

We werent able to do leg curls/extensions today because all the machines at school werent working. Oh well, looking forward to a sweet upperbody day tomorrow.

I haven't done strait bar curls in a while, but I was really happy with the way they went. I've been seriously lifting for about 4 weeks since I last did them, and I definately noticed how much easier they were:-)

Had an AWESOME eating day today. I'm really trying to stay on track and eat massive amounts so I can keep making gains. Brady and I are gonna try and put on 2 lbs. per week hopefully.

Yeah, 2lbs a week would be sweet as hell. You pleatued on your arnolds? I thought you were using like 35's or something just recently? Maybe i'm wrong, but i thought you were.

Definately not putting in full effort. But of course now were back on the hardcore track.

Wednesday was a good off day, it was the best eating day I've ever had. I ate constantly all day. Then right before bed I had a pizza and 4 glasses of milk to fuel my body during sleep.

Thursday I took off b/c my lifting partner brady ****ed up his leg. We're both back in the game tomorrow, so its all good. Plus I didnt miss a beat with the eating.

Wish me luck for a good upperbody day tomorrow

I was REALLY happy with my benching today. All my sets felt really solid and in pretty good form.

I did these by just wrapping a towel around each of the dumbell handles. It gives my forearms a good workout.

Halfway decent workout today. The weekends are rough, too much partying and not enough lifting or eating. Gonna have to play catch up this week.

Hey, dunno how I missed this.

Good to see you posting, Bryan - Brady mentioned he had a lifting partner now.

Nice work on the benches!

I read a very interesting article on squatting a few days ago - somebody posted it up but I don't remember where. Anyway, it really helped me bust through a plateau - I managed to put up a 170-lb squat for the first time, previous PR was 155.

And I'll be focussing on HEAVY GMs from now on.

Squats are very technical. You'll be working on your squat form over and over and over.

Every leg day the frickin hydrolic machines are never turned on so we cant do leg curls/extensions. total bull****. our school sucks.

The squats felt really weak today, I'm sure this was from my weak eating over the weekend. Oh well, I caught up bigtime on sunday, and I'm gonna try to keep it on track. Hopefully a good upper day today.

You don't HAPPEN to have a glute ham raise at your school, do you? 'Cause those are EXCELLENT.

And you can do dumbell RDLs for hammies after a heavy quad day - go slightly higher rep than you would on a heavy hamstring day, and really push your ass out. Knees bent, strong arch in your back.

You can also do high-foot-placement leg press to hit glutes/hamstrings.

This was my first squat lower day in about a week and a half. So I took it easy. Plus, I took off last Thursday and Friday for some recovery, but I can tell it made a BIG difference. I felt alot stronger comin back in today.

Oh, and my eating is the best it's ever been
I drank a gallon of milk in the 2 hours before bed last night.

nice workout dude

did your form break really badly on the bb rows? i know what helps me is to start the lift from the floor. i try to start the lift as if im doing a SLDL, but i stop once my back is flattened and row that mofo

if your back actually hurts, maybe just give it a week to rest instead of lowering the weight? if its just sore, i'd say stick with 175.. especially if youre doing 8 clean reps with that weight

When I was on my heaviest set, I broke form on the last 2, and I knew it. But a couple guys (curl jockeys) said something to me about having bad form. Which being the hardass that I think I am, acted like a dickhead when they criticized me. But hey, I know what good form is, and I know that I broke it. I don't need some jackass telling me that...two of them for that matter. I'm the one making the gains. Oh well, **** 'em :shoot:

Leg Curls
I don't know, I did them on the stupid hydrolic machines at school. You adjust the weight with a button, and the pressure actually changes throughout the lift, so I have no idea what I'm actually lifting. I just did whatever weight I could do for 8 reps/2 sets with a full ROM.

DB Lunges

Calf Raises

245 x 10

Tried to use a fuller range of motion on these today, and pause at the top and bottom.

God I love squat days. What a perfect way to start off the week with a bang.

So, today in gym class, we had lifting. Which of course sucks because it's not like I want to lift at 1 in the afternoon, and then lift again after school.
Anyway, I was up there talking to one of the gym teachers who's pretty serious about his lifting. He was trying to convice me that I should be able to/should lift twice a day. Of course I went into how I dont want to overtrain blah blah blah. But he still didnt agree with me. Is there any sense in what he was telling me? So yeah, he treatened to give me a 0 for the day if I didnt lift, so i just went and jacked around on the ab machines. Oh and he was also trying to sell me some NO2 supplements. He claims theyre the best supplement I could be taking right now. Im going to go back to him tomorrow and discuss this **** some more though. Because thanks to him I spent a lot of energy during class, and it wiped me out for my real workout.

The gym teacher is right in the sense that you'd look ridiculous if you could pull it off because of your youth. This is prime time that is why those curl jockeys were hatin on squat day, lol...sessions are looking good big Bryan.

maybe youll have more gas on the bench if you increment from 185->225? i dont like to rep out much in my warmups/buildup. i guess because I dont have the best muscle endurance but.. meh

I MIGHT try to deadlift on Friday or something, we'll see.

Bryan, nice deadlifting bro, even though you didn't think it was great. I did bench, squat and rows today. But I don't think I can get 305 * 7 on deadlifts yet. The last time I deadlifted, about a month ago, my grip failed me after 3 or 4 reps with 305. Time to work the grip I suppose.

I do 'em as RDLs, with my butt OUT and UP, chest out, strong arch in my back, knees a bit bent, weight dragged up and down the body, and I love what they do for my ass and hamstrings. Just did 'em yesterday.

Unfortunately, I've gotten a little bit of the party bug in me. I didn't deadlift on Tuesday, and I've partied the past 3 nights. I must say it takes a ****ing toll and really screws up your eating.

I'm got milk and peanut butter going right now, gotta catch up.

Risk- Hammies are definately a weak point for me. Even though I did go too light on them, they are still not where they should be. That's going to change soon enough though.

Bry, the workouts looking good. If i could make a suggestion... you could add a bit more upper back work in for the lats, rear delts, and traps. Adding some upper back mass did wonders for my bench.

I like your session, bench looks to be coming along and all.

I have a couple suggestions: On bench day, do a tricep auxillary, a lat aux and also a pectoral aux. An upper traps one too if you're up to it. They are all prexhausted from benching and if any are weak these aux will help bring them up. Otherwise, good session.

EDIT: I just remembered you did dips. Excuse my tricep ignorance.

F=ma, I think you may be right about having too much upper work. I'm really not satisfied with this routine, and am going to have to cook up something new. At the moment I'm having a hard enough time even getting in the gym. My diet has been great though, and I'm making sure I'm getting all the compound movements in when I can get in the gym.

I had to skip ME Bench today due to massive studying for finals tomorrow.
I've got my adderol and my #2 pencil ready.

I'll post up my workout tomorrow evening.

I'd alternate 3 exercises for squat, and 3 more for bench every week if I were you. 1 of each, each week. Deadlifts count as squats. That way, your CNS won't have any problems and you'll be working on all aspects of the bench and squat. It's worked VERY well for me.
