Back to journal town...

Brief ongoing of whats been happening.....

First off I got out of the military for all of those who've been following and am back in sunny southern California. I started dieting shortly after coming back just for the heck of it really and to test out what works and what doesn't work so that on my next cut it can go even more smoothly (not that I plan on cutting anytime soon though) Well I finished over a month ago and my diet has got to **** and practically gained a bunch of fat back, but oh well I aint worrying about it. Im enjoying life, traveling places.... gathering a life again and not letting lifting become an obsession but rather a hobby and something (on the side) instead of my life. These next 24 weeks will be geared towards regaining some strength that I had lost during the cut and then gaining some. I will not really be worrying about hypertrophy but it will be welcomed if it just so happens to occur. My goals are really just to improve my strength, endurance, and flexibility during this time frame. I have incorporated various cardiovascular workouts as well as stretching and yoga classes.

The plan ....

Diet - EAT LOTSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

First 12 weeks will be a variation of WSB (westside for skinny bastards) by joe dranco which can be googled and looked at if you so wish to know the routine. After the first inital 12 weeks of that I will switch over to the more standard westside approach and see how that works out. Basically the next 24 weeks will be a feel for powerlifting and trying to figure out what works for me in terms of new strength increases. For the first 3-4 weeks I decided to take it light and gradually cycle the intensity up and start off with weights I know I will hit so that by the time about 3-4 weeks rolls around I will be hitting previous bests or hitting new pr's.

Let the journey begin.

Like I said I am lowering my usual weights and progressively upping them while I work on form. I am working on a narrower grip for my bench while trying to keep my body tight to try and utilize my lats more and elbows tucked its pretty hard but I'm sure Ill get used to all these things and it will boost my bench up once I get them down, especially the leg driving. Im definitely not used to the high reps after cutting with low reps so my endurance is taking a beating, but will soon get back up there.

Today will be a little HIIT action.

10 x 100m sprints

pooped....

didnt quite push as fast as I could go but pretty hard getting the heart up there. I pulled my groin a week or two ago so ya it doesnt feel spiffy.

fcuk i hate 100m sprints. i remember this one time i had just ate spaghetti and than an hour later i went out and did some i think i got through 4 before i yacked everywhere. it was kinda cool

anywho nice w/o ryu your endurance will go back up by the end of the month.

oh yeah i finally have a concrete socal trip planned, its in november gotta ask what day but i will deff be down there for the marine corps ball. (my cousin) i think shes at pendleton so itll be in the san diego area. maybe we can hit up a w/o or something

Nice pressing there Ryu. I'll bet you were tired after that workout. What exactly is a Pendlay Row? Is that just where you are parallel to the floor and use overhand grip or what? Also what are Face Pulls?

mase : definitely, also if you are here around the 2nd week my credit union is hosting a day at disney with cheap tickets so if you and your cousin want to come they will close down the park to the public at a certain time and it will be a private playground for the members hehe.

Kiaran : Pendlay row is basically all the way parallel yes and also starting each rep from the floor, face pull/throat pulls are a rear delt/upper back exercise basically you would use a rope or straight bar on a pulley or lat machine and just pull it to your face or throat while keeping your elbows parallel to the floor.

ok, I got it now. Where is the bar relative to your feet on those pendlays? I mean is it directly over your feet or 12" in front, etc.? Sounds like you need to be pretty damn flexible to do them. I don't think I could touch the bar to the floor without bending my knees too much and rounding my back. Dunno, now you got me wanting to try this, you bastard :D

Still working on bringing up my work capacity and fitness level up, Doing continuous lunges between legs gets real tiring probably more tiring then doing breathing squats for me.... I can handle a lot more weight, but Ill slowly work my way up there. Also not doing reverse lunges in awhile shows how much stability and balance I've lost so hopefully that will be brought up as well. I need to invest in some coc grippers.... I keep telling myself I will get some, but oh well hopefully if some change is lying around I can invest in some as well as some fractional plates.

Dis : actually its a lot weaker then before, but my hands were sweaty at the time and 120's are the highest my gym goes to now, my last gym carried db's all the way to 200. I have no problem deadlifting 420+ without straps but with a mixed grip.

Damn Ryu, those GMs are looking good and your lunges sound outstanding too. How exactly does one perform a Reverse Lunge? Is it just like a lunge, only stepping backwards instead of forwards? Pretty intense gripping there too. Do the DB holds really help your grip strength that much? If so, I may have to incorporate these into my workout. Also what are "coc grippers"? That sucks about feeling like **** today; you got to love those "Welcome Home DOMs" though right? My stomach always feels like a hallowed out drum when I load up on cals before bed too. Wonder why that is?

Those lunges are awesome. I've never done reverse lunges but I would think they are harder than regular ones? I can do 135lbs X 6 regular, and it feels REALLY hard. 155lbs is just awesome man!

Week 1

Day 5 - rest 6-Sep-05


so it seems when I said I was feeling like crap I really was.... it started with me feeling real cold and my hands turning numb and fingers turning blue so I laid in bed, then a few hours later my stomach acted up I felt like throwing up and it felt like 10,000 degrees and I started sweating like I just ran a marathon, My temp hit over 100, I still feel real tired, it's hard to type and even hold a spoon to feed myself, I ate one meal yesterday and its cause I had to force myself to so I could take some medicine with it. I got out of bed to eat that meal and go pee, other than that I've been bed ridden and feel like complete warmed over sh*t

after much debate I decided to give my body some more rest before hitting the gym again, my appetite is coming back and so is my energy levels. I feel as if I should be ready to go again tomorrow. I invested in some grippers as well as a fractional plate set. Next on the agenda to buy will be a dragging sled and harness. Maybe some ab straps but those arent really a priority.

Hook up an IV with a bag of protein and a gallon of water attached, kinda like a keg.

Set it up to slowly drip in so you get approx 400g/day.

update ....

feeling better, appetite is back and will resume lifting tomorrow, so I guess we'll call that week 0 and start a new tomorrow. I did a bit of cardio yesterday and today and weight is at 180.3 as of this morning.

MM : Actually they are bent just slightly as I would do with doing sldl's, I feel it provides a better stretch despite being slightly bent as well as saves your knees a great deal of pain. Still getting used to the movement, the 145 was fairly easy.

Kiaran : I dont know I dieted down to 8% then binged for about 2 weeks at like 3x maintenance... I wouldnt be surprised if Im back up around 12%... still lower then my setpoint as I am usually a fat a$$

Your leg sessions are really impressive too, hope I can squat like that someday.

Nice box squatting dude! Good to ya see on a WSB routine, I used to enjoy it. Might have to give it another shot this summer.

How many reps are you getting out on those 150lb grippers? I've got the 150lbs and 200lbs. I get only a few out on the 150lbs grippers. Gonna have to up my usage of the grippers.

List the reps you get on the grippers, that way I'll have some motivation to beat ya, and use the grippers more often :D

I saw the video of a pro bodybuilder named Milo and he does short/medium/long BB lunges, also straight ahead, a little to the side, and extreme wide to the side, I tried them, and they own. :)

didnt do anything the last 2 days not even cardio... had a lot of stuff going on including eat till you puke both days, didnt sleep friday so made up for it a bit yesterday, my girl just moved into her new place on campus @ UCLA so diet should be getting sorted once again :D I think im back up to about 12% if not more.... oh well lifes to short, gotta have fun eh.
