View Full Version : Where do YOU buy your supplements?

Just curious where people are buying their supplements. I'm a Gold Card member at GNC, they always have good deals from the 1st to the 10th of every month, but alot of times I'll run out of something outside of this sale period and don't want to spend the extra cash.

The supplements I'm currently taking are:

ON 100% Whey Protein (Chocolate)
GNC Ultra Mega Gold w/o Iron Multi-Vitamin
ProLab Creatine Monohydrate Powder
GNC Fish Body Oils 1000
ON Whey MRP

If anyone has any websites or anything that have these products or similar ones that are just as good if not better please share. Thanks. :ninja:

I truly believe that everyone here should use AtLarge. If we don't sell it you don't need it. It really is that simple. We will sell anything that we consider to be SAFE and EFFECTIVE.

Our products are as good or better than ANYTHING on the market and are priced reasonably.

Your goal with supplementation should be to get results both in the gym and in your general health and our products do just that.

We are just starting to advertise in the magazines and this will fuel our growth. Those of you who may not have tried us because you have not seen a full page ad for our products in your favorite magazine will now have reason to give us a go!

Give us a try, you will NOT regret it.

DPS is the cheapest that I've found, but the warehouse for bulk nutrition/1fast400 is less than 10 miles from my house- they let me drive over on a saturday to pick up my last order and were extremely pleasant to deal with every step of the way.

Great value? ****, I can get ON whey for 20 dollars with 24 grams of protein, mix it in milk and have what nitrean is...yet nitrean is 40 shipped....
so at that price I can buy 2 jugs of ON whey

I haven't been convinced that the amount of money is worth any upgrade in quality.

phatmike
09-07-2005, 04:27 PM
Well, apparently our definitions of "value" are different, and that is OK. I've tried ON whey, and personally, it's like comparing apples to oranges. For a scoop of nitrean, it costs like what..55 or 60 cents? I don't have a problem paying that for a high quality protein supplement.

Sure, there are cheaper alternatives, but as far as I am concerned, you get what you pay for. Just my opinion.

Wild Cat McCane

Well, I use water and not milk, so therefore it makes a huge diifference to me. Bottom line, I am cutting right now. I have 1-2 shakes a day. With a whey only protein, I am hungry within 45-60 minutes. With nitrean, I am good to go for at least 2-2.5 hours. That in itself is worth the additional money.

I fail to see how having a slower-acting protein in your shake is going to keep you full for another 2 hours over the whey-only? It's not an MRP, it's only a bit or protein in water.

WTF, why would I lie about my experience. My experience is that with whey only protein powders, I am hungry very quickly, while with a protein blend, it seems to stay with me longer, and I can go 2 to 2.5 hours without feeling hungry.

I haven't been convinced that the amount of money is worth any upgrade in quality.

My first question would concern the veracity of your claim. Are you really getting the same quantity of ON for 1/2 the price? Can you provide a link for this?

Next, what are you truly getting in ON's product? Does it match the label claim?

ON does some things I think are questionable. For example, in one of their products they state it includes Aminogen (R). Aminogen (R) is a potent enzyme which causes a greater release and thus absorption of amino acids from a given quantity of ingested protein.

Now, Triarco, the company which produces/markets Aminogen (R) recommends 50mg of Aminogen (R) be used PER GRAM of protein. This is their tested level at which the product is proven to work as claimed.

ON claims to include the product in their protein (I believe it is the Pro Blend but I am not sure from memory) yet they only have 25mg of a BLEND of both Aminogen (R) and lactase (again, from memory) PER SERVING OF PROTEIN WHICH IS A 24 GRAM SERVING! That means the Aminogen (R) is being included at something less than 25 mg per 24 grams of protein! So, at the dose they include it they are so far from that which has been proven viable it is not even funny.

This, if nothing else, should provide some insight into how the company works and the true quality of what they sell. It certainly gives me pause and makes the balance of their other label claims come into question in my mind.

In the end you always get what you pay for. What do you want in your body?

I fail to see how having a slower-acting protein in your shake is going to keep you full for another 2 hours over the whey-only? It's not an MRP, it's only a bit or protein in water.

Whey is digested much more quickly, while a blend (let's assume it contains egg protein and milk protein similar to nitrean) won't. Regardless if it is liquid, the slower acting proteins should keep you satiated a bit longer. Fats such as olive oil will increase satiety and they are not solid either.

ON Gold uses Hydrowhey. With 24 grams a serving and can be picked up for 23 dollars on sell...but since there is always a sell somewhere...

a slight mislable on one product and a higher quality on another does not justify a supplement (something that is used for supplementing) being double the price in my mind.

All blends can't seem to answer why someone would not just add milk to whey instead of water....

Not bashing a product of yours, I wouldn't mind making it more available to others. At the price its at, there is no justification that a higher blend is worth double the price of another.

Where's the link? I usually get ON for $40-42 CAD from SND, which is about $33-35 USD. So let's look at the cost before shipping from ALN, SND, Bulk Nutrition, and your mystery location.

ALN - Nitrean 32.95 for 70 servings = 0.47 per serving or 0.0196/g
SND - ON 35.34 for 77 servings = 0.46 per serving or 0.0199/g
BN - ON 26.00 for 77 servings = 0.34 per serving or 0.0146/g
?? - ON 23.00 for 77 servings = 0.30 per serving or 0.0129/g

Now let's order 3 jugs of each and include the shipping to Canada:

ALN - Nitrean 32.95 * 3 = 98.85 + 10.95 shipping = 109.8 for 210 servings = 0.52 per serving or 0.021/g
SND - ON 35.34 * 3 = 106.02 + 5.00 shipping = 111.02 for 231 servings = 0.48 per serving or 0.021/g
BN - ON 26.00 * 3 = 78.00 + 31.05 shipping = 109.05 for 231 servings = 0.47 per serving or 0.0205/g
?? - ON 23.00 * 3 = 69.00 + 10.95 shipping = 79.95 for 231 servings = 0.35 per serving or 0.0150/g (HALF A PENNY PER GRAM!)

So per gram, Nitrean is pretty much the same cost as ON and it's a superior product. I could go even further and calculate the cost of your milk, not to mention shipping to Canada from your mystery company would most likely be more than 10.95 ... but I think I made my point.

This is complete and utter moron logic (I am not calling you a moron, but your line of reasoning here is moronic).

You are comparing a product's sale price to our retail price including shipping???

You have not included a link to backup your claim.

Bottom line, our product is nowhere near twice as expensive as ON's on a retail for retail basis and it is a better product for all of the reasons I have mentioned in numerous other threads.

If you are happy with ON then use it by all means, but please don't try to deride our product with bogus claims and price comparisons.

The reasoning is this....

You are an online store, I have to pay shipping

A place like Good Earth that is 5 minutes from my house sells ON whey for 23 dollars. And! the more you buy the more discount stamps you get, so you could actually buy 3 jugs for 20 dollars each

But what about my milk logic as well? If you throw milk into cheaper ON whey, you get a blend, which would be pretty complete in all nutrition areas...cause its food, not supplements.

As far as the logic of pricing goes, we can do that with anything. Lets try it for nitrotech. Turns out to be what? a small sum of 35 cents more then my ON per serving....but I'm not going to pay 60 dollars for JUST PROTEIN.

Quality is a concern of mine, that's why I have bought ON whey. Highest quality at the cheapest price.

We have presented reasons why ON+Milk is not the same as Nitrean, but you don't want to acknowledge them. Not to mention the price difference for MOST people isn't as big as you make it sound. If you can get ON for $20 and you are happy with it, then great. But don't come here and trash a superior product that supports this site just because you can't grasp why it's superior.

Wild Cat, you are not debating anything merely speaking your mind. There is a big difference.

I don't give a **** who owns/supports this site. This is their only advertisment so that point is just silly.

yes, and a lot of young men who are your consumers who have found that a product that costs half the price may be on the boat of not understanding why your 40 dollar shipped product's quality is so much so that it doubles the price.

I don't know about you, but I have tons of protein shakes. Quantity is the purpose of this stuff. I quality was what you were going for, you'd have 3 glasses of milk and call it a day. I can't afford to turn down a great tasting protein for marginal 'better' quality ratings that is double the price yet half the amount.

In the end, I'll buy from you and try it. Don't get me wrong

I just don't agree that your product should cost me 40 dollars shipped to my door for minimal advantages. If you aren't making stuff up, I would love to see this in stores just the get the price down.

Anthony
09-11-2005, 02:43 PM
Dude, seriously, are you reading anything I write? I listed two of the most popular supplement sites (SND for Canada and BulkNutrition for the USA) and the cost IS NOT DOUBLE. Like I have said, if YOU get protein for $20 and are happy with it, GREAT! But most people don't have a mom and pop shop around the corner selling ON for $20 a jug! Find me a store online that sells for that price and then your argument might have more weight.

4) Buying from ALN keeps this site running ... which you SHOULD care about since it's a kick ass information resource
3) You end up with a superior protein (Nitrean)
2) It's easier to manipulate macronutrients when you don't have to add milk to compensate for ON's lack of casein/egg protein

and last, but not least ...

1) For MOST people, the cost difference is MINOR

i was going to say a1nutritionproducts.com, but i looked at vitaglo.com and they actually beat the muscle milk prices i was paying... about the same price for the bottle, but the shipping is what makes the difference (5 bucks shipping at vita for 2 bottles of MM, $8 at a1, and vita is free if you buy 50 bucks or more (3 bottles)). a1nutritionproducts.com still is worth a check though

i agree though, you cant beat at large's protein. even though its one of the more expensive proteins out there, it is by far the best. the combination of fast and slow acting proteins is they key and it tastes good to boot.

any random supplements, www.a1nutritionproducts.com or vitaglo.com is probably the best bet imo. but if you are buying protein, go with atlarge.
