I started lifting weights in April including leg curls, seated leg raises, and calf raises, but I didn't start doing squats, dead-lifts, or SLDLs until June.
Here's a progress update. The first photo was taken on July 4th at 173 pounds. The second was taken on September 26th at 171 pounds. The difference is subtle but noticeable to the careful observer.

So, I guess my point is that squats, DLs, and SLDLs work!
