Hey guys today I woke up at like 4 in the morning and my whole left arm was totally numb, I must have fallen asleep on it.
It scared the crap out of me, it took a few mintues of me shaking it to feel somewhat normal. I took like 20g of L-Arginine hoping that it would speed up the blood pumping into my arm.
This morning I lifted a 10lb bag of protein with my left arm to see if it was paralyzed or not.
I still think it feels kind of weird, but not sure though. I might just be paranoid by now. I know I should probably go see a doc but I just wanted to know if this sort of freak incident has happened to anyone else before.
Should I be concerned?
I would think that mother nature wired something in us that would prevent us from falling alseep lying on top of our arms and cutting of circulation and paralyzing our limbs...

This happens to me constantly. You're fine.

It did...you wake up usually when this happens. At least, I know I wake up 2-3 times a night sometimes with a numb hand or arm.

This usually happens to me 2-3 times every year. It's not a big deal. I once managed to fall asleep on both arms and they both went numb.
Happens quite often to me. I sleep wierd...

Do it all the time. No big deal. If you start going numb during normal activity then you may have blood circulation issues- that's something to see a doc about. What happened to you is fairly normal.

Happens almost every night with me. About once a month I fall asleep on both my arms and can't even roll over to get off them. Usually takes a few minutes to roll over and start getting the circulation.

It's just caused by compression of the blood vessels supplying your arm and possibly the nerves as well from the weight of your body. As everyone else has said, it happens all the time, but if the numbness does not fade it should be checked out by a physician to rule out nerve damage or possibly a condition called crush syndrome which can lead to muscle breakdown, kidney failure and a whole mess of other problems.

If you shake your arm towards your hand really hard, it helps get the blood back in there way quicker than letting it do its own thing.
yea i also get it all the time. it's fun to pick up and drop and play with a lifeless limb. it's like "know I know how paralyzed people feel" (or don't feel... weird)

i'm trying to figure out the position you'd have to be in to have both arms fall asleep....

I had the same thing last night for the second time in my life. I woke up my arm was totally cold and lifeless, it was the scariest thing ever. I had to shake my arm about and was yelling out NO my arm (ima girl so not so cool like you blokes), finally i felt feeling again VERY slowly though. I know why this is, I started taking sleeping tabs and took 2 instead of 1. Therefore I went into a deep sleep and obviously slept on it. Moral of the story DONT take too many drugs and fall asleep on your arm. simple but scary.
It's really not a big deal...
At all.

As everyone else has said, its really no big deal, I wake up with my arms/hands asleep all the time. It only gets worse the bigger you get
