pants are fighting more loose already...tonight is going to be a full body style workout...missed workout last night because of a meeting at work

and I have also got 12 oz bottles of gatorade to help with some energy during the workout.

for the past 3 nights in a row i wake up at 3am STARVING. the heat stack is definitely helping with the energy some and i think it has upped my metabolism some.

Hey bri - how have you adjusted your insulin/orals since you started this diet?

briancurran01
11-02-2005, 10:59 AM

and I keep some smarties on hand in case my sugar gets too low

ericg
11-02-2005, 11:13 AM
Nice. I bet you keep your sugars pretty low when on this?

Have you discussed this with your Dr. at all? If so, what were his/her thoughts??

briancurran01
11-02-2005, 11:23 AM
eric: yeah my sugars stay pretty low...I discussed it with him when I was doing it before...and he was fine with it. My sugar will go up a little on saturday when i refeed. my last a1c was 6.5 which is very good for me. I just cant let them get to low that is all he was worried about. Once i get my weight back to where I want to be i may see if he will let me try controlling it with diet.

i am thinking about adding free weight squats in this sunday, i have never done them before and would like to try to see how my knees react.

i am considering going for more of a powerlifting/ strength building routine...not sure yet though keeping all the same for now

lilmase1153
11-04-2005, 02:01 PM
I think free weight squats would be great for you , I have a friend with barely any cartiledge left in his Left knee and does them and says He loves doing them. Just start nice and light and work on form until your knee's can adapt..

briancurran01
11-04-2005, 02:05 PM
thanks mase. i will let you know sunday how it goes...i will just do the bar to start and see what that is like.

Pup
11-04-2005, 04:19 PM
I agree with Mase on the free bar squatting...i had crap knees in high school, when i started squatting free weight style i built up a lot of muscle around the knee and i have zero troubles with them these days.

Also, if you are going to be training in a more PL style, then low carb will kill you...carb cycling isn't bad if you can have all your workouts on either high carb or moderate carb days...but squatting and pulling on no carbs absolutely blows. If you are interested I may have some ideas for putting together a training plan plus diet to fit your updated goals.

Ok...the form on BB rows.

This type of row is called a pendlay row. It is similar to a standard barbell row, but, your back is parallel to the floor, you'll notice that to have your back on the same plane as the floor you have to lock out your hips which will tense up your hamstrings *this is a good mental cue to know you're parallel*...the pull is quick into your chest, this is not a slow and controlled movement, you're trying to engage the lats hard. The grip should be wide, pinky finger either on the rings or just an inch inside.

Hypers: doesn't need to be a reverse hyper, the hyperextension will work just fine here.

Also, if you don't want to do the pendlay rows you have the option of doing powercleans.

...and what is a rear delt row?

briancurran01
11-07-2005, 07:39 AM
rob: they dont have a machine at all for hypers...a rear delt row is a machine.I will see if i can find a pic for it.

briancurran01
11-07-2005, 12:58 PM

Well i have been ashamed to post this in here, but here we go....my weight right now is sitting at 280 pounds.

This is the heaviest i have ever been.

My goals are the same as when i first joined this site 2 years ago to get to around 200 pounds with a comfortable bodyfat.

I finally have more energy and drive to meet my goals. I know that i have started and stopped several times over the past few months. This time i think i can keep it going.

I have a new job that starts on monday my shifts will be 6am to 230pm for the first 5 weeks then I am not sure what they will be.Also some of the money that i have been waiting for from the ex is finally arriving so...financial concerns are not an issue.

I am hoping to recomposite some, hopefully since it has been a while since I lifted consistently this will be doable.

Will post diet daily.

Good to see you back in the swing of things Bri. Diet looks pretty good, although you may be starting your kcals a bit low, at 280lbs, even if your bodyfat is pretty high you can afford more calories than 2k. It's something you can gauge by progress, but if you are going to be training intensely, you don't want to be eating 1200kcals a day just to get the weight to come down further.

Bri...as far as the calories go, I am going to say that you need to gauge it a bit. If you're 280 right now, you could start the diet at 15kcal/lb and probably be pretty safe. That works out to about 4200kcals, now before you jump through the screen and pimp slap me, i'll give you some reasoning. If your weight loss goal is still to get to 200lbs, then you need to give yourself some room to play. If you are eating clean, even at that number of calories you should have some fat/glycogen loss the first week or two of dieting. The other option is to take a couple weeks to figure out your actual maintenance calories and base your calorie reduction from there. For probably the first 6 weeks i'd say start gauging progress every 2 weeks (weight, bodyfat, etc.). You can probably start the incremental decreases at 500kcals for probably the first 2 or 3 times...after that i wouldn't drop kcals anymore than 250kcals, make up the rest of the deficit in cardio. Depending on which of the strategies you take that we discussed, you can probably rock out a week or two of PSMF to get through any weightloss plateaus. I wouldn't use that for any more than 2 weeks in any 8 week period. The other thing is that you can always change your calorie intake and macros as your body and training dictates. If you stay on top of getting in all your meals, it'll be easy to figure what changes need to be made.

Brian, good to see you starting up again.

The first change I'd make to your diet is upping the fish oil from 3g per day to 12-15g in divided doses. That alone should help you see some composition changes without messing around with your macros.

Thought I would post a little in here about what is up lately.

As some may know I had a severe car accident on January 13th.

I am almost back to full strengtrh...except for my shoulder get that checked out again next week.

I am currently living with my parents until I get back on my feet.

Once I am cleared by the doctors to lift again I hope to come back strong.

Pup

Hope the recovery goes well bro.

briancurran01
03-07-2006, 11:43 AM
pup: thanks

A new twist in the saga that is the life after the car accident.

I went to see an ankle specialist yesterday. Seems is if I have a foot deformity, a very high arch. And he also thought that I may have some torn ligaments in my ankle so i need an mri. If the ligaments are torn, and surgery is needed, he will have to break my heel bone and realign it to correct the high arch. Or I will always have problems with my ankle. Like my mom yesterday...this **** just goes on and on.

briancurran01
03-17-2006, 06:06 PM
Went to see 2 docs since the last update. A partial tear of a ligament so i am in a cast for 3 weeks.

Today i saw the back doc all is progressing good, except for my lower back. Will be doing more therapy. He says that deadlifts, and squats are both done.

Hoping to get started up again after the cast is off.

I am really getting anxious to get back to lifting. Hoping that I will be released to lift at my next doctors appointment which is the 3rd of april this is when I get the cast off my ankle. (providing the ligament is stabilized)

I have an interview for a GREAT company also next week. Corporate Express on one of their Internal Helpdesks.

Things are looking good lately. I had my 2nd interview for a helpdesk position at Corporate Express. The pay is $19 an hour or higher. I should hear by tuesday. If i dont get this position there are 2 others at the same company that i have applied for.

Cast comes off monday, and if all goes as expected. Dieting will start hardcore again monday and I will be back in the Club, doing whatever I can.

Also, I am starting to hit up the dating scene again, have a few women that i am talking to so will see what develops.

If ya'll are nice maybe i will post a pic of one of them...pup says and i quote "holy ****" that chick is bomb. if you dont want her i will take her lol

second therapy session today.

He did alot of stretching on my ankle which was quite painful. Then he had me stand next to a chair with the boot off only on my right leg, then put as much weight as i could on the left. This hurt like a bitch as i have not walked unsupported since march sometime.

Got a few isometric exercises to do

Update

Had therapy today.

Did some calf raises with 50 pounds 2 sets of 20 on the leg press machine...felt good.

Also did an exercise where i attach a cable to the good leg and then do 20 reps in all directions...going forwards, then to the right then to the left, then in behind me. Did this with 5kg. TOUGH as hell.

Well still making progress so i am happy.

Next therapy session is monday

Thanks D.

Off to therapy here in a bit.

The accident settlement may turn into a lawsuit and go to trial they are asking for medical records from a surgery I had 18 years ago. Saying that this somehow ties in to my torn ligament in my ankle. Because i have a high arch in my foot, which has never caused me problems until this jack off hit me.

Why can nothing i do be easy?
