i did some searching and almost everyone has their own opinion on both. Alot like Protein, alot say creatine is the way. I was just wondering, what one would be best for me to get my lifts up and shape up a bit? As of right now my lifts are pretty low and no where near what i want them to be at this point.

I think getfit is thinking the same thing as me. If you're lacking protein then whey is certainly the more important of the two.
To be quite honest if I didn't get about 30% of my daily protein from shakes I'm not sure which I would chose if I had to pick one.

Do you not eat chicken? beef? Drink milk? You know they have protein in there, right? Protein supplementation, although handy, is not a necessity. You can get protein from food. But if you're asking which is more important...you can't replace protein intake with creatine. You can't totally give up protein sources, then take some creatine and think that it will "replace" it.

i eat alot of chicken, turkey, beef, so i'm guessing i should just go w/ creatine? i was just wondering if the extra protein would benefit me more.

Protein will, if you're not eating enough to grow.
Are you gaining weight?

Neither one is going to magically make yor lifts go up

It depends...do you find that you have trouble meeting your protein goals for the day? Do you find protein shakes more convenient at some times? Once again, neither is a necessity, but nice to have. To be honest, creatine can be had from whole food as well.

i know nothing is going to make me go from benching my 140x8 to benching 350x5. I'm looking for something that, over time will benefit my lifts more than i could on my own. I love meat, so i have no problem getting my protein, so i'm guessing i'm just gonna go w/ the creatine? as for Builts question. i'm down to 210 right now, as i've been dieting , lifting and cardio. In Jan. i weighted in at 232. (Jan. i was fat, i'm starting to slim up a little) lol

If you have to choose just one I would recommend creatine.

PBX, probably the best thing to do is track your diet for a couple weeks, and find out how much protein you are really getting.
Something like www.fitday.com would work fine.
I think that you will probably find that you should take both. It can sometimes be a struggle to get enough protein when you get into the 200+ lbs range.
Both of these supps are relatively inexpensive anyway, so you aren't going to lose your shirt buying them.

"i know nothing is going to make me go from benching my 140x8 to benching 350x5."
Actually, proper diet and weight training will do this. If you don't know how many grams of protein you take in right now, then your diet/training isn't up to par. Get your training and diet in check before looking into supplements, because our just wasting your time/money otherwise.

You definatly need to keep track of what is going into your body, it seems like right now you are guessing that you get enough protein, but really don't know. Use fitday, it's a great tool to see what your body is getting exactly, and work from there. Start with the right amount of protein and a good diet, and progress as needed!

Thanks for all the help guys, just one more question then. Once i track and all, if i find out my Protein is a little low and i buy both, is there a certain timing i should take them (other than recommened)

The three best times in my opinion are pre-workout if possible, post-workout, and before bed.

Why is their not a supplement that incoporates both. Or is their?

BigOldDad, here's the best kept secret - make your own supplement concoctions out of basic materials - cheaper, better, and ultimately, you get exactly what you want and need that way.

If you want to pay more, there are. Buy each in bulk, throw them together in a shaker cup...shake, drink. It's not hard.

Um...this isn't an either/or situation. You need protein no matter what.
And what everyone else said...

Think we covered that, but he was trying to decide between extra protein supplements or creatine.
