I dont know if its because some of the products i have been taking, Creatine, glutamine or my diet, which I think is pretty good. But it may just be my body, anyone know a good product to help with this problem?

Soap wont do a damn thing. If it is bad acne that just wont go away, I would consider seeing a dermatologist. The only thing that will clear it up will be either a topical medication or an antibiotic. Trust me on this one. I've been through it.

Ditto......go see one, they will make a world of difference. Dont irritate it more by scrubing it, that will not help...try washing with some soap called Palmoxil (sp?) u can find it at a drug store over the counter, follow the directions. This will help some but the Doc will have some better drugs for ya!!

Back acne? I have shoulder acne, occasionally I get pimples on my back. I'm thinking its because of the high test levels. Because back acne is a side effect of roids. But I am drug free, I guess I am lucky to have a lot of test naturally. I also have high cholestrol.

I think it's because the back is a 'hard to reach' spot.

In all seriousness though, acne and hygiene are linked, but acne problems usually require anibiotics.

Acne is a disease. Getting a few pimples may be a hygiene related problem; acne, however, has little if anything to do with hygiene. If it is indeed acne (i.e. you also have the problem on your face, neck, shoulders, etc.) then washing certainly isn't the answer as it's likely to cause additional irritation leading to further oil secretion or scarring, and it won't deal with obvious hormonal problems.

don't believe this hygenie crap! Why do young teenagers get acne during puberty? Testosterone! Acne=high testosterone levels! Means your a man! hygenie? only girls worry about washing ther backs!

WTF!! just cuz guys get acne doesnt mean they like it,a nd u should leave it alone. test=more "oil?" released. bacteria get caught in these oils, and cause acne. u have to wash these off. this is not the ONL reason u get acne, but its one of them. IMO i wish my back (and chest) is clean and nice, so i wash and take care of them, but i still get acne, but it couldve been worse.

You should be glad you have acne when your out of puberty! Nothing wrong with it at all! Means your body has a lot of testosterone, meaning it will get your scrawny a$$ out of the 130lbs range.

Yeah, and when I have to get up five times a night to pee when I'm 60 I'll be glad, too. Testosterone, you know. Makes your prostate big. Manly stuff.

seriously though, chronic severe acne could have several causes that are not hygene related. If you are having scarring for sure i would go to the dermatologist! I would go anyway!

He (or me if ur implying me) just wants better skin. I would never take anti-androges (real?) to get rid of acne. i rather maintain my hormone levels and get better skin. i'm not proud of breaking out, cuz ppl accuse me of juicing what can i do?

Roacutane. Its the only known clinically proven cure for acne. It is probably only available from a specialist such as a dermatologist (depending on your location). Its also the strongest medication available and can have some nasty side effects. It will dry your skin all over, affect night vision, lead to more migraines, blurred vision, bleeding and irritability. Oh and if your female and at risk of pregnancy its a real bad medication to take.

Retin-A. Its a topical treatment that contains chemicals thought to kill the bacteria involved in acne. Again its probably prescription depending on your location. There are other peroxide based topical treatments that are not as strong, and probably not prescription based which may work and have less of a side effect. Remember though it is a bleach, so you need to avoid contact with other things you don't want bleached.

There are a number of antibiotics, which have different successes with different people, but also have different side effects. You cant drink alcohol with any of them and no milk with at least one of them.

With all peroxide based topical treatments and Roacutane you need to apply sun protection because it ellevates your risk for skin cancer and other sun damage.

I typed this off the top of my head, so seek a second opinion before acting on any of this information.

I used to have bad acne...

i started going to a "natural healing" type doctor, detoxified (cleaned out my liver and intestines), quit drinking, started eating relatively clean, and my face cleared right up. You are what you eat.

Consider the detoxifying, I think thats the most effective thing you could do without taking more pills (i dont like prescription stuff, i only use it if i'm severly sick and cant get over it homeopathically).

Now, everytime I drink, I have pimples a few days later, so I know the above works.

Go to a doctor and get a prescription for Benzy-clin. My brother had pretty bad acne on his face and this cleared it up very well. I had it on my back/chest/shoulders pretty bad and it worked extremely well. My chest/shoulders are clear while my back is about 85% better.

I have acne, i also get the zits on my back and sometimes on my ASS! I had acne ever since I was in 7th grade, now it seems to be better, but what you can do to help is to wash your face 6+ times a day. Don't eat oily foods, don't drink, and don't smoke. Also don't let anything touch your face that might irritate it (woal, nylon). All of this from experience

The guy who started this thread had a good question. The responses were pretty funny, but here's my thoughts on it, all jokes aside for a minute.

I definitely, without a doubt, break out on my body when taking glutamine. I have tested this twice. After two days of mixing glutamine with creatine (Phosphagen HP), my back gets a bunch of acne. The acne stays the whole while I stay on glutamine. Once I cut out the glutamine but stay on creatine, the back pimples go away within two to three days. I've never ever had back acne before, until glutamine. I mean I might get ONE or TWO pimples on my back here and there, but when I'm on glutamine I get about ONE HUNDRED tiny little pimples.

So yes, glutamine can cause acne in some people. I have only tried one brand though. I won't say what brand it is because that brand might work fine for you, but I will say it was one of the cheaper ones. I'm going to try another more expensive brand in a couple weeks or so, whenever I can make it to a Vitamin Shoppe and have money in my pocket - a rare combination these days.

Glutamine does help my recovery time and I feel like my muscles do grow faster when on it, but what's the point if I can't take my shirt off at the beach because my back is all polkadot pink?

last year (wintertime) my back broke out badly (chest + shoulders too), this was during my 1st bulking phase (which was pretty crap cos i didnt eat enough/or enought protein) but my bacne stayed with me up until summer.

When i started taking multivits and 3g of vit C a day my back started to clear up very well, additional showering and getting as much of a tan as i could on my days off also helped to bring it down to a more barable top of shoulder only acne.

During this time i wasnt training since i cant eat 6 meals in summer heat my appetite drops too much and i find it hard to even stay awake after i finish work let alone train for 1hr.

But now i started to train again on a mass bulk my bacne is coming back and my chest is always red and 'dotty' after a w/o.
Top of my arms have spots too and its a bitch.

Im now being extra careful and showering twice daily at least, using non perfumed stuff. If it gets back to last years state then im going to seek help.

Thing is those drugs mentioned have very drastic side affects and i dont fancy going near them. There has to be something simple and natural?

Interesting.

I'm getting some now on my chest.....is that because I've been working my chest more?
That doesn't make sense. I've got to cut down on oily foods that is for sure.

my chest is definately red and blemished when pumped, but i wouldnt cut down on my good fats.
Omega3 will do it just as much good as harm in my opinion.

Ill keep an eye on mine and see what happens.

I had bad acne when i was about 19, and washing it with soap only makes it worse. I can't stand that ignorant linkage between acne and cleanliness. I was proscribed Roacutane by my doctor and it cleared it up in a matter of weeks, mind you there have been several links between severe depression and Roacutane, although i never experienced any. Infact i was so damn happy to be rid of the zits.

I had pretty bad acne I've gone through about 4 or 5 antibiotics, but none of them were really effective. I was actually getting to the point where doctors were recommending accutane. Instead, I tried this new laser treatment called Clearlight, and it worked really well, even though I didn't have the type of acne it was designed for. If you have problems with antibiotics, I'd look into it.

Do you squat Heavy weights? Or put any heavy weight on your back? Because Acne can be Friction induced as well. I don't have much acne on my face or anywhere on my body, but 2 days after I squat, I get a small breakout on the top portion of my back (where the barbell rests, same wih the calf raise machine)

I had to reply to this thread cause it's helped me get a grip on my acne on my back. I'm glad I'm not the only one facing this problem. I picked up some good info here. Being in the weight lifting industry, it's not fun to have a pimply back. I geuss that is what steriods will do to you. I tried to eat differently but that didn't work. But I will tell you something that has helped me out tremendously. This acne treatment that is specifically meant for your body and it works from the inside out. No not some pharmaceutical (sp?) you take but a herbal supplement that promotes good skin health and pores. Along with that you do get the body washes that work great. What I think that made the difference was the herbal supplement but thats my opinion. Check the stuff out at skincleansingsystem.com where I saved money on it at the time I got it. I've been using this for quite some time and have a perfectly clean back. So for any bodybuilder with body acne, you have to do something about it, this is it.

Other then that I would watch what you eat and even get one of those long scrubbing brushes for the shower to get around to your back and scrub the shi* outta it.

Good luck

I have back acne too, so i would be interested in this, but i doubt its simply too much e2 or dht. girls have lots of e2 and their skin is better than guys. plus lots of guys take androgel which prolly creates a lot of dihydrotestosterone and they don't get acne. add to that the fact that i had it before i went on trt, at a time when i would assume there wasn't much testosterone, e2, or dihydrotestosterone in my system at all...

Legitimate question, terrible, terrible answers. So much misinformation about acne, and as anyone who has ever struggled with acne should know that, I'm surprised to find so many idiots having to pipe up about it. Acne is rarely related to hygiene. Not scrubbing your face and back can cause pimples, but acne is a disease, not a few pimples on your shoulders.
Eliminating simple sugars from your diet is first and foremost. Simple sugars rev up the kreb's cycle, especially in the out layers of skin increasing free radical production and feeding bacteria that live in the sores. Cut out sugar if you are dealing with a true acne problem.

Secondly, drink more water. I don't care how much you think you drink already, drink more. Drink a gallon a day. Water is the best purifier. If the cause of your acne is OVERHEATING in your skin, water is what your skin needs to cool it down. Water is the cooling system of the body. Give up on peroxide based topicals and other over-the-counter creams that aren't working because acne is a systemic in origin, it must be treated systemically.

Cleanse your colon. By cleanse your colon, I don't mean buy a "colon cleanse" product from the health food store and rely on it to work because they don't do ****. For a week, eliminate meat from your diet entirely, stock up on lentils, beans, quinoa and whey to supplement your protein. Continue to drink plenty of water. Avoid caffeine and other diuretics. Without proper supplementation of water and fiber, up to 90% of artificial estrogens and toxins will continue to recirculate throughout the system. To increase the cleansing effect of this diet, I recommend a product called "Sonne's #7" to be taken in conjunction with "Sonne's #9". These are the oldest colon cleanse products on the market, because they work, and they are the only ones that work, IMO.

Do not take Accutane, I had a friend who started taking it and her skin became so dry she was miserable, but she would not stop taking. Within a few months, she looked aweful, her skin was so dry that it was cracking and her lips were cut and bleeding, no matter how much lotion and chapstick she used. It turned her from a pretty girl into a mummy. Not only that, she became so depressed that she had thoughts of suicide which she confided in me. After doing some quick research on the internet, this is what I found.

"Accutane may cause depression, psychosis and, rarely, suicidal ideation, suicide attempts and suicide."

(The FDA required that the makers of Accutane include this warning to all medical doctors licensed to prescribe Accutane)".

Acne on the back is difficult to treat because of the problem of physically reaching the affected area. It's impossible to reach all of the affected areas to apply a cream or lotion. That is why I always choose cleansers first in treating back acne.

I like cleansers with glycolic or salicylic acid. These help unclog the pores by exfoliating the top layers of skin, releasing the oil and debris that is trapped in the pores and also decreasing the likelihood that new clogged pores will form. When these treatments aren't enough, it may be best to try an oral antibiotic.
