I use to have a thread under my old name. It went dead bc i went to school in alabama and just got sick of posting. now my roomate, chubrock, who has an awesome thread going, and i are working out together and he's helping me get bigger. i've just been lifting hard since august. i have a hard time gaining weight but i also dont eat that much food. i do, but i hate forcing myself to eat. i also dont like eating things that dont taste good or having to eat a lot of one thing just bc it has a lot of protein or whatever. i have a goal to gain a pound a week. i'm at 150 right now. i want to be at 170 by may. i guess i'll just start my posting with todays workout. as of now, we lift 4 days a week, m-thurs. lower mon and wed, upper tues and thurs
today's workout
chinups(not puss chins either, real chins. no 90 degrees crap)
1 set 5 x bw
1 set 5 x bw + 10 lbs
1 set 5 x bw + 15 lbs
1 set 5 x bw + 15 lbs
1 set 4 x bw + 25
bench press
1 set 8 x 45
1 set 7 x 95
1 set 5 x 145
1 set 5 x 145
1 set 5 x 145
1 set 5 x 145
1 set 3 x 145 w/ one negative
one arm cable rows(5 each arm)
1 set 60
1 set 75
1 set 90
1 set 105
+ 5 two arm rows w/ 105
maybe someone will look at this

Like I said in ya other thread just keep with it bro. Good workout today, and your goal is def. obtainable.

I think you should drop the one arms for now, stick to using 2. Just seems like a waste of time to me. I'd rather be in the gym for a shorter amount of time.
Later on if you feel you need them, you can add them..otherwise, I think you should be fine with two arms.

Post up the rest of your routine so I can look at it
Chubrock
12-07-2005, 08:31 AM
The routine we follow goes like this:
Monday- Speed Deads (5x2), Deep Squats (5x3), Weighted Ab Work
Tuesday- Weighted Chins (5x5), Bench (5x5), 1 Arm Cable Rows
Wed- Power Cleans (5x1), Low Oly Box Squats (5x5), Weighted Ab Work
Thursday- Yates Rows (5x5) or High Rep Chins, DB Press (5x5)
We've been doing the 1 Arm Rows mainly because they mimic a motion I use in BJJ, so I thought we'd throw those in for the hell of it. Just something to work the back just a little bit more.
dw06wu
12-07-2005, 08:39 AM
Looks like a good routine, but you guys are really neglecting shoulders and hamstrings. I think you should cut weighted ab work from Wed and add SLDL/RDL there, and add some sort of shoulder press + lateral raise on thurs.
eyeofthetigerII
12-07-2005, 08:53 AM
what do you suggest for shoulders. i'm also not that big of a fan of SLDL. i could try them again, but are there any other exercises that really help hamstrings.
dw06wu
12-07-2005, 10:57 AM
Well, do SOMETHING for hams, either SLDL, RDL, glute ham raise if they have one at the gym, leg curl, weighted hyper. For shoulders you should add a couple sets of shoulder press, or push press since if you want to include an olympic style movement, and some lateral raises.

ok, today's workout was crazy. i just got back and i'm about to die. so we walk into the rec center on campus, where we always work out and the lady asks us if we even want to come in bc the lifting area closes in fifteen minutes. after a quick thought we decide, screw it. lets go for it. bad idea. so here's our fifteen minute rampage. oh yea, no, and i mean 0 time between lifts. went straight from box squats to SLDL and you get the idea.
Box Squats
1 set 5 x 135
1 set 5 x 135
1 set 5 x 155
1 set 5 x 155
1 set 5 x 155
1 set 5 x 155
SLDL
1 set 5 x 135
1 set 5 x 135
1 set 5 x 135
1 set 10 x 135
lower back was throbbing. even though this was all much lighter weight than what we usually do, with all the continuous lifting w/ no rest between sets i thought i was gonna collapse. never again do we try to compound a workout into 15 minutes.
Chubrock
12-07-2005, 06:14 PM
15min....heck bro, we lifted that 10min. Good workout man.
dw06wu
12-08-2005, 12:29 AM
Damn, thats some dedication right there. I would have turned my sorry ass around and went home, especially on squat day. I see you guys got some SLDLs goin, good job. Go easy on them the first session or two before you start ramping up the weight too high. Let yourself get readjusted to the weight if you haven't done them in a while.
eyeofthetigerII
12-08-2005, 02:28 PM
yea, it was pretty rough but we had to get something in, especially since liftings going to be hard over christmas break. SLDL felt pretty good. it was light weight but form felt good, even though we flew through it. hopefully i'll be able to squeeze in a workout tonight. i have a lot of studying to do for my last exam. we'll see

01-08-2006, 06:58 PM
ok, i've been out of school for a month. i dont have access to a computer at home so i couldnt put anything up here while i was gone. lifting def. slacked over break but i managed to do some lifting and i'll be getting back into it w/ school starting back.

Hey James, good luck with your goals. I too am shooting for 1 lb per week. Very attainable as long as we keep eating. And don't get overly worried about your protein intake. You should be getting enough of it as long as you're in a calorie surplus.

ok, my goal was to gain a pound a week, but i lost something like 10 pounds over christmas break. i didnt realize it was happening. i thought i was eating enough, but, and i know this sounds gay, but a lot of crap happened over break. i had a breakup, that sucked. had it out with some of my family. yadda yadda. whatever. i lost 10 pounds. got all the way down to 140. havent been that light since sophomore year of high school. honestly, it pissed me off, so i've put on 5 pounds in the last 4 days. granted, may not be good weight, but frankly i dont give a rats terd at this point. its not even funny. 140 is ridiculous. any weight gain is good weight gain at this point. i'm just pissed. i have to put on weight. i'm quitting doing anything above 5 reps on an exercise. i'm gonna try and stick with 3 rep sets. anyway. hopefully i'll be up to 170, 175 by summer. that would be awesome. i need bulk. i could care less about being cut or the six pack of abs. abs are nice, but girls give jack about abs if you dont have that nice chest and biceps and traps and all the good stuff. i'm just trying not to get overwhelmed

Here's something you may thank me for in the future: go buy a weightgainer, don't bother about buying a fancy clean one with complex carbs, something cheap like NLarge2, put it in a blender 2 cups of milk and several heaping tablespoons of natural peanut butter. Drink that 3-4 times per day in addition to eating a normal's day worth of food. You will be amazed at how much size you will start packing on.

chubs - you cant just through around threats of chuck norris roundhouse kicks. thats pretty close to taking the Lord's name in vain.
imageD - i'm seriously considering taking weightgainer. i'll let yall know if i do. so far i'm doing good at gaining weight back. if i start to plateau with the weight gain at all, i'm def going to have to start taking weight gainer. or eat small children.
todays workout
some weird thing my roommate was doing. for more details go to chubrocks journal.
hang cleans (from the knees)
1 x 5 x 45
1 x 3 x 95
1 x 2 x 105
1 x 2 x 115
1 x 2 x 125
1 x 1 x 135
1 x 1 x 145
1 x 1 x 155
1 x 1 x 165
this workout was easy. i liked it. plus, my lifting partner is so much stronger than me and i was able to get 20 lbs more than him. this is only bc my form is better than his, but it counts. take that chubs.

Thank you for telling him to waste his money?
6 cups of whole milk= 900 cals
6 tablespoons of PB= 600 cals
That's 1500 cals that you can easily down in a half hour.
You don't need weightgainer. I get 6000k+ cals almost everyday with no weight gainer. That leaves me with plenty of money to spend on other things (hot babes).

6 cups of whole milk. Do you realize how thick that will be once you blend it all up, and also how much it will whip up? It's also full of sugar. That's why I use cytogainer, actually uses complex carbs instead of sugar as most other weight gainers. You also have to take into account that 70% of people are lactose intolerant.
Either way is a good way to get in calories in the end though

1 x 10
1 x 10 w/ 35 dumbell
1 x 10 w/ 35
1 x 10 w/ 35
incline bench
1 x 5 x 95
ok. so today's first workout was decent. made 0 improvement in bench. but, its only been a week. if i cant move up by next week, i may switch up my reps. pulldowns went pretty well i thought. same w/ hammer curls. my biceps are weak so i know i'll have to work on them. dips were more for light work, but then some big dude was doing dips w/ a 65 lb dumbell, so i decided to one up him, even though i'm half as big as this dude was. anyway, it had been a while since i had done really heavy dips. felt good to know i could still do it.
ok, second workout sucked. it was ridiculous. my pe teacher insists that we workout. but i've already worked out today!!! needless to say, i had no idea what to do. i was exhausted already from the day's earlier workout, and i was still tired from doing legs the night before. i went light on everything i did, but it was still a pointless waste of my time and energy that i'll need for my next workout. i may not work out tonight because i've got some things i need to do, and i'm exhausted. we'll see

ok, wednesday i didnt work out, i figured the break would do me good. thursday was really light. for some reason i've just been out of energy lately.

1 x 5 x 135
1 x 4 x 145
1 x 3 x 155
1 x 1 x 165
chins

ok, cheap workout but i didnt feel the need in making myself any more tired than i already was, plus i knew i would be working out later.
workout #2 thursday (for PE class)
triceps extensions (heavy)
5 x 5 x some weight
hammer curls w/ rotation
5 x 5 w/ 30 lb dumbbells
ab workout for 30 minutes
bench workout was the same weight in my first workout as my last upper body session, but the last rep came up much cleaner than before. i ate a lot of food this weekend and got a lot calories so hopefully weight gain will be good this week and lifts will jump. we'll see

bw + 55lbs x 5
bw + 80lbs x 4
hammer curls w/ rotation
1 x 5 x 30lb dumbbells
4 x 5 x 35lb dumbbells
ok, heres the low down. bench went up only slightly. i got 165 for one a lot cleaner than i have been, but still couldnt get 2. i tried 175 just to see how it felt, but i couldnt get it. this was a slight improvement from the other times, but not enough. i'm going to switch it up and take the advice of my roommate/lifting partner/chubrock/little girl and start doing speed bench with light weight. hopefully working on explosive power will help me out. lat pulldowns felt weak. dips felt pretty good. i wanted bw + 80lbs for 5 and might could have got it but 4 was hard and i didnt want to hurt myself. it was mainly to impress the girls behind the desk in the weight room who were eyeing us. went up on the curls. form suffered slightly on a few of the last reps, but for the most part it was pretty good. i'll just keeep that weight until it gets easy. overall, a great workout. i'm going to do some light assisting work later today in my PE class.
