Not the prettiest muscleup you'll see, but I'm happy with it. Now I'll start working on getting multiple reps and a smoother transition.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate it. Ideally I'd like to get this without the momentum or favoring one side. It will be awhile before that happens, but at least I have something to work with. :D

I have only ever done those on the rings.

Looks MUCH harder on a straight bar. ;)

Have you got a set of rings to do 'em on? Being able to have your arms more at your sides instead of straight ahead makes a pretty big difference.

Anthony
12-13-2005, 11:40 AM
Cal, no I haven't got a set of rings yet. I think the actuall chinup/dip would be harder on rings, but the transition would be easier. Do you have rings? If so, where did you get them?

Shark

Wow, that was cool. I can't do that.

Looks sweet man! You got a great build on you as well, nice and big and lean!

I would have to say that mantelling through the movement on one side means that you need to kip a lot more and move faster.

The pullup is easy on rings, the transition is easier than a bar, but the dip is harder.

Thanks guys. :D

Mmn, yeah, it was definitely ugly. I basically just told myself that I was getting above the bar no matter what. It worked, but obviously I need to work on it. Do you think I should continue using this method for reps until I build up the strength/momentum, or should I stick with singles and focus on coming up straight?

Speaking of being just for show... Why would you hijack someone else's thread just to try and get a few more compliments on your tiger pushups?

I just tried a tiger pushup and got about half way. My shoulders are a bit sore from squash/bench/muscleups, so maybe I'll try again when I'm fresh.

I became interested in muscleups because they are used in crossfit workouts. I think they are more functional than "show" although they do look pretty cool when done properly.

ya they do look pretty cool

the reason I said they look like there for show because its a pullups to the chest then a one arm dip with your other arm stabilizing.

TripleP: thanks man. This gym isn't the Y, although I go to the Y to swim and play squash (not avail at my gym).

EP: a proper muscleup is done on olympic rings and doesn't involve the "dip" I used to get up top. Trust me, mine was extremely ugly compared to what it's supposed to be! But for my third day of trying, I'd say it's okay. :)

I'll try it tommarow at the gym, I've never tryed it at my old gym the celing was to low I'm sure I could pull my self up fast enough bw feels really light

I did a Muscleup in the gym today. Its was easy but then I tryed to do it a second time. you just have to pull your self up so fast so the bar reaches your navel rotate your hands ontop of the bar and the same time and push up

Nice work dude. I tried for 2 reps after my third single and wasn't able to get it. There's a workout where you do 30 of these for time ... I'm a long ways from trying that one. lol!

Im sorry to dig this up. but i am very much the gymnastic type.
Very impressive Anthony. :) Not to be boastful, but i can do quite a few of those. With my low bodyweight, and strong arms, i can go from the musclup position, striaght into a handstand and back down to finish in same position. Its hard, but still very impressive with your musclup.
I doubt your at 154lbs are you. like me hehe.

I just ordered a set of rings from ringtraining.com. I can't wait to try these when I get them. I know I won't be able to do it at first, but I will build up to it.

Niiiiiice! Muscleups are very impressive, especially at your bodyweight or higher. Your triceps are looking ridiculous!

What's up everyone! I read more than I post but I had to comment on this one because I am currently working to have the muscleups as a part of my workouts. First, I basically do a bodyweight workout that consists of various grip pullups/chins, dips, pushups, squats, and presently adding/acquiring muscleups. I like you Anthony (200lbs+ on bars) so I get a good workout from the bodyweight exercises. From where I stand that's a very good start... Check out this link these guys are borderline gymnasts who just spend alot of time on the bars(you may wanna pass on the audio, I'm cool on the gangsta sh*t, I grew up here in L.A. and I'm not impressed with that being a family man).

Peace, Chaasad.
