I'm kinda in the same boat. To save creating a thread I'll use this, hope you don't mind. :) My first post, been lurking for months now.
I've been doing weight training now for around 7 months without any form of supplements. I usually eat high protein foods such as fish. I usually eat tins of tuna or mackerel to get my protein along with oats for breakfast and fruit. That along with a meat dinner/tea such as steak or chicken.
However the tuna eating is getting very boring. Seriously try eating dry tuna day in day out, very repetative. Each tin averages 26g of protein so it's kinda worth it.
So here I am! I've searched for a couple of days now regards protein and other supplements and there's so many. Like I said I've been doing weight training for a good few months now so the supplements are all new to me. I basically just want a protein which increases muscle growth, ideally to be mixed with fruits and milk. I've seen some which also increase weight etc which is something I don't want.
Like I said, I'm new to supplements so all help is appreciated.

Atlarge Nitrean is hands down the best protein I've used. Good price, flavor, and the quality is amazing.
As for protein which makes your muscles grow, but you don't put on weight, sorry. Muscle is made of matter, and all matter has mass. If you want more muscle, it has to weigh something.
Simple rule that you'll hear from everyone around here. Get atleast 1g of protein per lb of lean body mass. So if you weigh 150lbs, shoot for around 150g or more of protein. If you get that from tuna/chicken/etc, then you really don't need to supplement protein, but most people won't come close without adding a protein supplement.
In conclusions, goto At Large's Website, look at the few things they offer, because everything they sell actually works, and read what it does, and make your choices.

As he said confusingly...to gain muscle you need mass. The best thing you could do is eat correctly. Supplements are just a sub for food. if you pick protein powder all that matters is how well your body uses that protein.
Optimum Nutrition as the best bioavability at the cheapest price.

is the tuna you eat in tin cans?
because i was watching the news yesterday and they were saying that too much tuna from the can leads to dangerously high mercury levels in the blood. you might want to think of another way to get the protein..shakes?

yes there is mercury in tuna, I still eat a can about twice a week though.
Well im 17 also and have been lifting a couple of months and recently I started useing Nitro Tech protein. Best. Stuff. Ever. you take 2 shakes a day along with meats and other sources of protein, you will see gains within 2 weeks i promis. I bought Cell tech creatine the other day and have only used it twice so i dont really know how well it is going to work. go to www.muscletech.com and shop for nitro tech/cell tech.

Try eating some salmon.
Get a lemon and squeeze it out over the salmon. Season it to taste with whatever you like most. Bake in the oven at 400, maybe 450 degrees for about 20-25 minutes depending on how thick the piece is.
If you want to eat it from the can, get up one morning and cook it in a frying pan.
Can of salmon, a couple of eggs, cheese and chopped onions. Maybe some mushrooms if you like them. Salt to taste.
Fry it up in a pan and mix it all together as if you are scrambling eggs.
You can eat that breakfast, lunch or dinner. I think you'll like it.
