A dip belt is your best bet. You can get one for $25-30. Not that huge of an investment when you think about how much you spend on something like gas each month.

Some people can hold dumbbells with their feet. I am not one of them, and I prefer to concentrate on the lift, not squeezing my feet together.

The other solution is to just get fat, as that makes chins hard as hell.

Dip belt! Why would you think they look ridiculous? Do you think the guy with 100 lbs on one looked silly? You're working out, not performing a fashion show anyway. If you think a dip belt looks silly you should see your face when you max out! :zipit:

I think trying too squeeze several plates or a 100 lb dumbell between your legs looks alot more ridiculous than using a belt.

Yeah you can hold a DB in your feet for a little while but once you get over ~30 lbs you might as well get a belt.

A belt is more comfortable and safer. A backpack may interfere with shoulder movement.

yoour not look silly. i think i look good when i do weighted chins as other people can't lift it. so they know that i am stronger than them.

the only other to add more weight on is to, eat lard all day so your belly is bigger.

^ you just plain look gnarly when you're adding weight on a dip belt for either dips or pull/chin ups. I like busting out the dip belt.

i do dips with 2 45s for reps.. who the hell is going to say i look silly? hahaha don't avoid it just cuz it looks silly, avoid it when it is ineffective.

im just curious how much weight to add? im 6', 215lbs and i do 4 sets of controlled pull ups to partial failure on my back/bi day. i do 12 on the first set, then usually 8, then i stuggle to get 5 and maybe another 4 or 5. i've been thinking about doing weighted chins, but should i wait until i can do more with my current body weight? i was thinking maybe a 25lbs plate since that would be about a 10% increase? thanks.

I used 10lbs my first time, when I could bust out 10 reps.

windmill85 try to get a bit more rest between sets, sounds like the amount of reps you can do decreases pretty rapidly... perhaps TOO rapidly. But yeah just start off with an extra 5-10lbs.

your droping so may reps at the end as your probably going near to faluire.
if on the 1st set you do 9 reps. the 2nd set you should manage 9 reps as well and may even get 9 reps on 3rd set.
thus you can do more work in total.

get a dip belt and find out what you can do. I say your easily get 6 to reps with a 25 pound plate after a few go to practise the technique.

then after you do one set of weighted, do the rest of the sets unweighted. when this becomes easier do more of the later sets weighted.

I got a dip belt for Christmas - happy man! - I had been using an old dress belt and strapping 15 lbs on (talk about looking stupid) now I can do much better! This has been a helpful thread...some good ideas here. Thanks
