Slammed my thumb in my car door Friday night, the nail is all black and the tip of the thumb is all blue, gotta love it.

Legs are still a bit sore from Thursdays session!! gotta love it.

Gonna be starting football in a couple of weeks, actually had a practice on Sunday!!

Should be PULLing tonight.

TRAINING

Chins = BW*10, 7, 5, 4 >not much difference here

DB BO Row = 55*10, 65*10, 65*10> form is very strict, will throw on more lbs next week.

Standing EZ Bar Curls = 70*9, 70*8 >sucks :( > i think i may be going through things quicker now that i train by myself, so the rest time could have somehting to do with my performance?

BO DB Rear Delt Raises = 25*10, 25*10 > not to failure

DIET

not too bad, only "bad" items are

-cereal and milk in the morning
-cereal bar in the afternoon

other than that it was eggs, tuna, oats, greens

Ya tiz me,

No I am not going to start another journal titled "My New Found Glory". My personal shiat is coming along real well now, for the most part, just in case ya'll wanted to know. Decided im gonna take everything out on the weights, lift HARD, get stronger, and shoot for the look that I want. This means I MUST get my diet in check as well. Although I am still hanging round 178-182lbs.

I will start off slow since my strength levels have dropped like a school gals panties on prom night. Understandable since I have been slacking for a couple months (or more) now.

Im outa here, this thing will be updated at least once per week regardless.

Good good.

You don't need to read the whole book. Ignore the chapters on anti-aging and training/lifestyle.

Focus just on the middle section on the diet.

ya, i figured that much out!! just gonna read the "cutting" diet section.

Didnt lift today, my diet was awesome till I went out with some friends. Had some buffalo chicken wings (well chicken fingers), and some beer.

The night didnt go to well. My mind is all fuked up, people pulling me in different directions, it totally sucks. Thinking sucks, too many thoughts at once kill me. Just have take it out on the weights later. The end of the night went better though, sat outside and talked with one of my good friends until 2am. Was a good conversation

All of you that have kazaa, DL the song "Bother" by StoneSour, its great, and i can totally relate.

thanks for listening to me vent!

RedCharm-

Thanks ;) All this going out though may set me back some, I need to get that under control, or at least keep it clean. My weight hasnt changed since I have started back, still at a bit below 180lbs. Think i need to lose about 20lbs to be perfectly happy (6 pak).

Had a good weekend. Today I dint do too much. I had a football game in the morning then I went and watched my nephew play soccer in the afternoon. When I got home I watched the PATS get their arse handed to them!! Gotta love that, not to many New Englanders can say that, oh well.

Saw this kick arse band play on Saturday, they sound fuken awesome. Was lots of nice hair around too so that was cool.

Started to read NHE (Natural Hormonal Enhancement) again. I think I may start this up sooner then later. My workouts seem to be getting better (as I am getting back into the groove) so now I need the diet to be dead on if I want to reach my physique goals. I am not sure exactly how much I need to lose. I look decent now, but I want to get that 6 pak showing. I weigh 179lbs now, and I dont think my mind could handle going below 160lbs, hopefully I wont have to.

Well today was supposed to be PULL day. But i got home and ate, then fell asleep. No big deal, will just train Tues, Wed, and Saturday.

Been thinking hard about my diet lately, made one decision for this week: I am going to keep things clean Sunday through Friday evening. Then Friday night and all day Saturday will be cheat time. I am wondering if this will still alow me to lose the fat that I want to lose? I mean its better than cheating Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat right!! Oh and I am also wondering if I should try a CKD and have the 36 hour carb up on friday and saturday? That would mean NO carbs for the remainder of the week though. So if any of you diet experts have any thoughts please let me know!!

Diet looked like this:

m1 = .5c oats, 1serv whey
m2 = .5c oats, 1can tuna
m3 = 1can tuna, forgot the walnut oil
m4 = 9oz of steak, green beans
m5 = 4 whole eggs, 1slice cheese
m6 = cashews

New Diet Plan

Starting this Sunday (10/6/02) I will be eating less than 20g of carbs for the next 5.5 days, until Friday late evening. From Friday evening until the end of Saturday will be whatever I want, but no pig outs, just freedom. Then the following Sunday (10/13/02) will be 40-60g of carbs total for the day for 5.5 days:

10/6 = less than 20g carbs, 135g mostly good fats, and 240g protein over 6 meals.

10/7 = less than 20g carbs, 135g mostly good fats, and 240g protein over 6 meals.

10/8 = less than 20g carbs, 135g mostly good fats, and 240g protein over 6 meals.

10/9 = less than 20g carbs, 135g mostly good fats, and 240g protein over 6 meals.

10/10 = less than 20g carbs, 135g mostly good fats, and 240g protein over 6 meals.

10/11 = mostly good fats and protein(little to no carbs) UNTIL 6PM. This will be about 4 meals worth. Then anything goes, in moderation, yes even beer.

10/12 = anything goes in moderation, yes even beer.

10/13 = 40-60g carbs,105g of mostly good fats, and 240g of protein. Follow this until Friday at 6PM, and it just repeats from week to week.

Calories will be around 2200 per day to start off with. Wont worry about calories during the 36hour cheat time (Friday evenings and all day Saturday). Although I wont be stuffin my face.

Will record my weight every friday morning.

Food plan should be up tomorrow, if I can get off my lazy arse tonight and pound the numbers out.

Ya I have thought about that, think I will give it a little longer though, see if i can get the reps up on the last couple of sets.

It really isnt that strong, kinda pissed that I stopped lifting for that month or so. It really killed my strength, espicially in the squat. I was getting 275 for 4 deep reps, now i can hardly sit on the toilet!!

Thanks man

Hey ericg, how do you do your chins? Underhand or overhand? Chris mason made a good point about using an underhand grip - he said that it puts your biceps in their strongest position (think of how you curl, underhand), so this allows your lats to fail first, before your biceps.

I have been doing underhand chins for a while now and completely prefer them over overhand chins.

No lifting tonight. Next session is Saturday LEGS.

Went out last night and had a couple of beers, two to be exact. Not too bad. I saw a couple of people that I havent seen in about 3-4 yesrs so that was cool. Was a decent time.

Friday I am going out with a coworker daughter. We are gonna grab a bit to eat then she is going to show me around Brunswick. Should be a good time and a change of pace from where I usually go out. Nothing will happen with us though, she really isnt my type (too fuken tall). She is a cool gal though.

Its a rotator cuff movement, I had some shoulder problems in the past so i added them in. Here is a link to an article, it also has a couple of pics in it as well. I use DB (or 10lb plates cuz i need clips for my DBs) I feel more comfortable using the DBs then the BB or EZ bar.

Okay ericg thats what I had thought. Some kind of joint movement or something along those lines. My rotator cuffs sometimes give me some trouble, but nothing some good ol' glucosamine, chondroitin, & MSM wont fix within a day or 2.

Again, good luck with the diet. Stick with it. :thumbup::thumbup:

10/6/2002 NHEv Day 1

Well today was a lazy day for the most part. Got up just in time to make it to my football game at 9:15am, so i didnt get any food in me until around 11:30am.

Friday night and Saturday was ok, drank some on both nights.....dont really feel like getting into specifics right now.

So this is todays food:

m1 = 4eggs, 8oz whites, 1 slice cheese = 54p, 5c, 29f

m2 = turkey = 30, 3, 12

m3 = 1can tuna, 2tsp mayo, 1tbsp walnut oil = 45-0-25

m4 = 3eggs, 8oz whites, 1 slice cheese = 56-4-24

TOTALS = 185p-12c-90f = 1598 cals > ya i know they were low, but after football i didnt do a fuken thing all day long. will be much better tomorrow.

10/7/2002 NHEv Day 2

DIET

Did very good today...

m1 = 3eggs, whey, 1tbsp olive oil = 45-6-31

m2 = 1can tuna, 2tsp mayo, 1tbsp walnut oil = 45-0-25

m3 = same as m2

m4 = 8oz pork, broiled = 48-0-12

m5 (post train) = 2 whey, 2tbsp olive oil = 42-6-32

m6 = 3eggs = 24-3-15

TOTALS = 250g Pro, 15g Carbos, 140g Fat = 2320 cals

Think it was DAM good.

LEGS

BB Back Squats = 115*10, 145*10, 175*10, 145*10 > More progress from last week, up 10lbs on the "heavy" set, and 30 on the last set.

Calves, DB each leg = 90*15, 90*15 > ok

Weighted crunches = 50lbs * 30, 50lbs *30 > very nice, need more weight though - use two 25lb plates on my chest

SLDLs = 115*10, 165*10 > was very nice, took it easy since i havent done them since 5/31/02.

Decent workout, my squat still sucks though. I think it may be my back though, I think my legs are strong enough to handle heavy squats. I may add in some conventional deads in my back session.

MISC

Dam think I am catching a fuken cold, took some medicine before I lifted and it knocked my ass out around 9pm, had to wake myself up to get the last 3 eggs in! I also taking 500mg vit C with every meal along with my multi (once per day) hopefully i can nip it in the bud. ya. anyways

m5 (post train) = 2 serv whey, 2tbsp olive oil = 42-6-32

m6 = 3whole eggs, 1slice cheese = 25-3-22.5

TOTALS = 255g pro, 12g carbos, 136.5g fat = 2296.5cals

Hit on all cylinders again today, will be the same for the rest of the week.

TRAINING

Chins = BW*10 (tie pb), 6.5, 5.5, 4.5 > OK, got a little stronger.

DB BO Row = 65*10, 85*10, 85*10> form is very strict. PB with the 85's, up 10lbs for the same reps.

BO DB Rear Delt Raises = 25*12, 30*10 > last set felt great, may add some 2.5s next week.

Standing EZ Bar Curls = 70*10, 80*6.5 > DAM WEAK but a bit better.

Not a bad workout since I have a fuken cold. Not sure if I am going to hit chest/delts/tris tomorrow or Thursday, will see how my body feels

Looks like you had a great back and shoulder day. Congrats on all the PB's. That's awesome.

How do you like the bent-over lateral raises? I just added them to my routine.

I love them, used to do them with my bck on the bench, but balancing comes into play. I think I had a shoulder muscular imbalance before I added in a rear delt movement, now I feel more comfortable with any movement that involves the shoulder joint. I like to do them real strict though, you wont impress any chicks with BO Rear Delt Raises anyways!!

Thanks for the congrats.

DIET

m2 = 1can tuna, 2tsp mayo, 1tbsp walnut oil = 45-0-25

m3 = same as m2 = 45-0-25

m4 = 7 oz chicken, 1tbsp olive oil, 1slice cheese = 52.5-1-23

m5 = 7 oz chicken, 1tbsp olive oil, 1slice cheese = 52.5-1-23

m6 = 3whole eggs, 1slice cheese = 25-3-22.5

TOTALS = 259g pro, 10g carbos, 134g fat = 2282cals

Perfect again. Tomorrow is my last full day of under 20g carbos! Cant wait till Friday evening!

TRAINING

NONE, My body ached all fuken day. I hate colds. Will try to do PUSH tomorow, will see how I feel. Seems like whenever I get on track something kicks me in the nuts.

MISC

Took it easy tonight. Went over a friends house and played Monopoly!! It was actually very fun. Course they had beer and pizza and all the other good ****. So I just sipped on my H2O and plugged my nose.

Oh ya, I forgot to mention yesterday I got my lobes pierced. 14g. Although the right one wont seem to stop bleeding today. WTF.

10/10/2002 NHEv Day 5

DIET

m1 = 3 whole eggs, 1serv whey = 39-5-15.5

m2 = 1can tuna, 2tsp mayo, 1tbsp walnut oil = 45-0-25

m3 = 1can tuna, 2tsp mayo, 1tbsp walnut oil = 45-0-25

m4 = 7oz pork (the other white meat) = 42-0-10.5

m5 (post train) = 2 serv whey, 4tsp olive oil = 42-6-19

m6 = 3 whole eggs, 1 slice cheese = 25-3-22.5

TOTALS = 238g Pro, 14g Carbos, 117.5g Fat = 2045.5 Cals

Was a bit short on the fat today, forgot to sip on some olive oils before I left for work. Not that big of a deal though. Tomorrow I have 3 meals little to no carbos (will be the same as my first 3 meals today) and then it starts my moderated cheat peroid!!

TRAINING

BB Flat Bench = 115*10, 165*10, 165*8, 165*5.5 >>Had a spotter today, so it was an all out effort, had little rest between sets. Still fuken WEAK, getting better though

Seated Overhead BB press (no back support) = 65*10, 90*11 >> up one rep from last week, not too bad still WEAK

Cubans DB (10lb plates) = 10lbs * 15 *2sets >>Rotator work, felt good, nice and SLOW

Seated Skullz (no back support) = 60*10, 70*6, 60*8 >> improved the heavy set by two reps, not too bad, will have to check back and see what i was pushing before my extended "break".

Lateral Raises, arms fully extended, slow reps = 10lbs*15, 10lbs*15 >>should add more weight.

Well it didnt go that bad, had a friend over and he lifted with me, so that was cool. I went and got some clips for my DBs the other day and while I was doing DB rows the fuken plates fell off the DB. Pieces of sh*t. I NEED to order the threaded DBs off of the net. Things are getting better, so I would think I will be back to where I left off in a couple more months.

MISC

Went out for a bit, and drank about 10 glasses of water!! Tomorrow though will be a different story.

DIET

m2 = 1can tuna, 2tsp mayo, 1tbsp walnut oil = 45-0-25

m3 = 1can tuna, 2tsp mayo, 1tbsp walnut oil = 45-0-25

Well like I said, first 3 meals are little to no carbos. From this point on until the end of the night Saturday is anything goes (in moderation. Going to eat with some friends after I get out of work and will probably have a couple drink there. Then off to some club/bar or sumtin.

Will kinda keep track of what I eat and drank during my "moderated cheat" period.

TRAINING

REST DAY

MISC

Weighed in this morning at 174.5lbs thats down 2lbs from last week. This is more than likely due from water/glycogen. No adjustment is going to be made as far as cals go this week. Will keep it all the same and see what next Friday brings, then adjust if necessary.

I am really looking forward to eating some pleasurable foods and beverages! Think I will start off with a tall Shipyard Pumpkin Ale, good shiat. Oh and my lobes are doing pretty good today, for all of you that were concerned. Laters and have a good mutha fuken weekend.

Nice strength increase here ericg---seated skulls are great. I am currently doing regular lying skulls which I like as well. I might give them a shot in the future. Skulls have really built my triceps completely if you ask me. I attribute all of my triceps size to them.

Good job on dropping 2 lbs. ericg, obviously your diet is working as planned which is always nice. Have some fun eating some REAL food man!! Youre usually pretty clean with your diet for the most part. Now eat some fast food---live a little!

Thanks man, ya I will have to check back for sh*ts and giggles to see what my PR is. I love to do them seated, didnt like them lying as much as i do seated.

Ya, this is my first week back to being strict, well actually it will be 5.5 days strict. The next 36 hours i do whatever, but I am not one to pig out, will just be to pleasure my taste buds and not keep track of shiat.

Will post in a bit to see what my max is on my skulz.

Once you put more efforts into your strength and less of your efforts into your bf%---youll gain some serious strength ericg. I am totally confident in that. Back when I was putting all of my efforts into losing bodyfat I wasnt gaining strength like I am now. I mean now Ill hit plateaus and sh*t but my strength in at least 1-2 exercises goes up a bit every week. Which is nice.

10/12-14/2002 NHEv Days 7-9

DIET

Diet was FUN Friday evening and all day Saturday. Didnt pay any attention to my food sources, and the cal intake wasnt all that high for sure.

Sunday I only got 4.5 meals in. I went to a concert (Korn, Disturbed) at 7PM and didnt get home until 11:45PM. I did munch on my cashews during the ride home.

Monday was dead on, had the day off from work (Columbus Day) so I didnt have a chance to post everything.

TRAINING

NONE, Tuesday is LEGS

MISC

Early part of the weekend was good, the rest sucked. Life sucks. I am suprised that I kept my diet on track. Oh well, guess everything cant be good all the time, but it seems like when sh*t hits the fan, it hits it hard and often. Let me tell you, I want to hit something hard and often, wonder if that will make me feel better....nuff or my blabberin bullsh*t.

10-15-2002, 08:04 AM

ericg
10-15-2002, 08:12 AM
It was awesome. Fuken crazy to be exact. Both bands sounded great, and Korn put on a great show. Disturbed is amazing that he can "sing" like that all the time and not kill his voice after two years of being on tour. Trust Company was supposed to be the opener, not sure what happened but they didnt play.

The pit was a great place to be, tons of chicks with who flashed their prized possesions; wasnt too rough though, guess thats a good thing since I needed to let my lobe piercings heal still. Overall it was a great concert.

Im sure the concert in Tampa will be kick as*.

10/15/2002 NHEv Day 10

DIET

m1 = 3oz chicken, 1 whey, 4 tsp olive oil = 40-3-22.5

m2 = 1can tuna, 2tsp mayo, 1tbsp walnut oil = 45-0-25

m3 = 1can tuna, 2tsp mayo, 1tbsp walnut oil = 45-0-25

m4 = 3eggs = 18-2-13.5

m5 (post train) = 2 whey, 2 tbsp olive oil = 42-6-32

m6 = 3eggs, 2 slices cheese = 32-4-31.5

TOTALS = 222g Pro, 15g Carbos, 149.5g Fat = 2293.5 cals

Dead on. Protein was a touch low but no big deal, still at about 2300cals. All is good.

LEGS

BB Back Squats = 115*10, 145*10, 185*10, 145*10 > Progress from last week, up 10lbs on the heavy set. Will keep it there again next week, and add some to the last set.

Calves, DB each leg = 90*15, 90*15 > ok

Weighted crunches = 50lbs * 30, 50lbs *30 > Easy, need to find a way to throw some weight on me, use 2*25lb plates right now.

SLDLs = 115*10, 165*10 > Easy, took it slow again this week, will add some weight next week though

Not a bad day, squats were all ATF, although I leaned forward on a couple of the heavier reps. Need to slow it down a bit, the tempo I mean.

MISC

Went out for a little while after lifting and drank about 5 - 16oz glasses of water.

On a higher note I may have an opportunity to go to San Antonio, Texas this coming weekend. One of my friends is going to convention and co-worker that was going to travel with him just had a heart attack (at 59 yo) so he is unable to fly. Since his employer is paying for the tickets/hotel, all my money is for food and FUN. The only thing is if his GF is able to get the time off of work (which is UNlikely, so she says) she will be going instead of me. That would be a kick as* trip though. Would have to put off my date this Saturday though, I feel like sh*t for breaking off this date, she is a cool gal and would be a fuken blast, Im sure. Oh well if the trip doesnt go through, I still have something to look forward to.

TRAINING

Chins = BW*10 (tie pb), 8, 6, 5.5 > Not too bad, strength is coming back on these nicely.

DB BO Row = 65*10, 85*10, 85*10 > Tie PB, will stay at this next week though. Form is strict.

Standing EZ Bar Curls = 70*10, 80*5.5 > Still WEAK

Not a bad session, feeling good as well.

My chins are shoulder width, curl grip. You must have your palms away when you do BTN chins? I have done BTN Presses and pulldowns, but both seem to tweak my shoulders some, so I am a bit weary of them.

Yeah if you feel any kind of shoulder discomfort from BTN chins or BTN presses I would definitely stay away from them if you ask me. Chris mason said they were a big favorite of his until he tweaked his shoulder, and how he does curl-grip chins I believe.

You're matching a lot of your PB's...I'd say strenght is coming back pretty quickly. That's great man. Have fun when you get down here. Weather's suppose to be a little crappy, but you'll be on the river so it won't matter, plus we've already had all our flooding for the year. Drunken monopoly is a blast. Well its been a long while since I have posted in this. Life has been busy, but still lifting hard. Not back on track as far as NHE goes. My weight still between 175-180lbs. Here are the workouts that I had since the last:

10/17/2002

Seated Overhead BB press (no back support) = 65*10, 95*8.5 >Up 10lbs from last week on the last set

Cubans DB (10lb plates) = 10lbs * 15 *2sets >Rotator work, felt good, nice and SLOW

Seated Skullz (no back support) = 60*10, 70*6.5, 60*10 > improved the heavy set by a half rep. Last set up two reps.

Lateral Raises, arms fully extended, slow reps = 10lbs*15, 10lbs*15 >should add more weight.

10/29/2002

LEGS & ABS

BB Back Squats = 115*10, 145*10, 185*10, 145*10 >Kept everything the same since it was a lil while since the last session.

Calves, DB each leg = 90*15, 90*15 > ok

Weighted crunches = 50lbs * 30, 50lbs *30 > Easy, need to find a way to throw some weight on me, use 2*25lb plates right now.

SLDLs = 115*10, 185*10 > Up 20lbs on the last set, felt great!

11/05/2002

PULL

Chins = BW*10 (tie pb), 8, 6, 7 > Not too bad,up 1.5reps on the last set, could have got 1-2 more on the first set!

DB BO Row = 65*10, 85*10, 85*10 (tie PB) > Want to stay at this and make sure form is dead on. Feels great though!

BO DB Rear Delt Raises = 30*12, 30*12 > No change

Standing EZ Bar Curls = 70*10, 80*5.5, dropped to 60*6 > Still WEAK

MISC

Been going on some dates lately. Going pretty good to. Found out some shiat about the EX GF that happened just b4 the split or within a week after, wasn’t too cool. No big deal now I guess. It is all in the past. I handled it well. Almost have my 2000 Celica paid off, then I wont have any large bills to pay :). I plan on buying a custom hog before summer sprouts and also going to move out of the folks place (this will happen in the NEAR future). I am just not sure if I want to rent or buy. I mean I don’t want to be tied down. I have plenty of time to think about it.

Oh ya. Fran is supposed to give me a call this Saturday. Be funny to hear the blokes voice!

Date went good last night. Think its going to be more of a friendship thing, no chemistry yet.

Have PUSH tonight, im looking forward to it. Then I am going out like usual. Gotta call up another gal though to make plans for this weekend or something. She is cool shiat so far.

LOL, the last 2 dates I had were like this. I went out with both chicks 2 times and it just wasn't there. Since I'm not one with a whole lot of game (and not very aggressive), I need a lady that isn't afraid to like put her hands on me and stuff. :D

But I still see both ladies and we are very friendly. In fact one is meeting me to dance maybe Friday.

Yup, know what you mean. Its great that you can be just friends. That is all I am really looking for now. Since some gal fuked up my head, i dont want that shiat to happen any time soon. Gal friends are great (not the sexual type), that way you can meet their single attractive friends!!

The one im calling tonight is not shy.

We are planning on Xmas caroling the Friday/Saturday before Xmas. So I am printing out a bunch of songs that we are going to sing. Should be cool. We are going to get all dressed up, wear santa hats, have some candles, and prob be buzzed (just for the hell of it) and go sing to world....LOL...so if any of you see 4-5 guys out there singing their arses/hearts off, dont throw snow balls at us cuz i will personally fuk ya up.

Anyways. The lifting hasnt stopped I have been at it since so just because the journal took a break doesnt mean i stopped working out. I am going to try to post EVERY workout from the last sometimes today or tomorrow.

Nice, that post made my day man. Funny we posted at exactly the same time.

Tongue is a bit swollen, expected to last 3-5 days from the day of the pierce. The process didnt hurt at all, and i still have no pain in it at all. Eating is a bit akward, but will get better once the swelling goes down.

Good increase here! I bet 205 x 10 won't be too much of a problem...

How is your cutting going? Do you have any idea what your BF% is? You must be getting close to low teens if you've been consisten on that CKD...if I remember right you were on a pretty low cal level, right?

Well my bodyfat is a little high. If i were to guess I would say its around 15%. Goal now is to lose about 15 more lbs or so. Think I am at a point where my diet is clean enough so im maintaining and possibly gaining some muscle/losing a bit of fat at the same time. Need to fine tune the diet though.

I like it. I do each once per week, or try to anyways. For the most part i get in a session once per week. If i could I prob would do a little more, meaning only have lets say 5 days rest between each seperate session instead of 7.

I like it though, seems to be working well for me, although ive never tried anything different.

Weighed myself the other day at 184lbs and that was after a meal in mid day. Im gonna drop 15lbs and see what i look like. THats the current goal, course its hard to do with my fuken current eating habits. Mostly clean isnt enough, need to step this up a notch.

Thanks! I love SLDLs, i used to do hammy curls then tried sldls and fell in love. Its an akward movement at first. Having the nevrve prob like you must suck though, i cant imagine.

Starting Feb. 1 (if not a few days earlier), I will start my cut where I will drop to 5% bodyfat or lower. I am not going to do any special diets. I am just going to lower my calories 250 a day or so in the beginning and adjust from there. So probably I will just cut out some carbs in the beginning and up protein. I really haven't figured it all out yet. It want be easy because I quit keeping tabs on my calories. I just hate being so precise with it all.

No lifting untill monday.

Last night was a pretty good time. Was FULL MOON MADNESS at Margaritas. The place was packed. Had to babysit a couple of my friends. I am used to that though since I seem to be the only one that can have a good time without getting drunk.

I hit my left knee on the table trying to sit back down. I hit it hard, dam thing was killing me last night. It is a little better today.

Tonight will probably be more of the same. Meeting a couple friends after work to eat, then we are gonna go back to one of their places and hang for a while, then head out to a club or two - the usual.

Well I was planning on having a PULL day on Saturday. But we got 19" of fuken snow so i had to shovel the fuken driveway 3 times!! Nice workout!

Weekend went ok. Diet sucked as usual!! Not too many people were out this weekend due to the snow - i think its stupid, i mean we live in Maine, we get snow all the fuken time - if you cant drive in it by now you shouldnt be driving at all.

The 49ers game was awesome, I will admit that i stopped watching it after they went for the 4th and 1 on their first possesion of the 2nd half, started to flip the stations. The Gmen went down and kicked a FG. Then the comeback started, WOW it was crazy, never seen a game like that before. CRAZY, gotta love it when your team comes out ontop!! - Little sidenote. I have some friends that are 9er fans as well and if the 9ers and Eagles go on to the championship game we are going to get some tickets to that game in Philly!! That would be some cool fuken shiat! I hope the cards go my way...

Ok...now that is over...

Today I play on doing some cardio before i lift. Just going to jog a mile. This will be a consistent thing from now on. Will jog 2-3 times per week, slowly gain some cardio endurance and eventually start doing some HIIT sprints.

Oh ya, that friend that bailed on us before xmas said he was going to start today...we shall see...

Since you read my journal, I thought I'd reciprocate. ;)

Nice strength coming back from the food poisoning! It's a b*tch!

After you're nicely recovered, I'd work up to a 1RM in like four or five sets. You should do some sets to get the neurological feel for the weight. Here's what I used to do to go up to like 275:

135x6, 185x5, 225x3, 255x2, 275x1.

To test the max you'd want to work up to heavy triples, doubles, and singles. You don't want to tire yourself out on the the triples and doubles, but get a feel for the weight.

I'm sure one of the more knowledgable powerlifters on the board could give you some better advice, but that's what most people comfortably do.

Lunch was fun. Went out to lunch with my ex GF Nancy and a good friend of hers (Jenny). Had some good conversation. I think its great that we can still talk and get along when we are no longer seeing eachother anymore. She is a great gal and a killer friend.

Played basketball after lifting (reason why we had to rush a bit at the end) and dam was I dead afterwards. Played pretty good though!! My good friend Matt got elbowed in tha face a couple of times; once in the mouth and made the gums above his two front teeth bleed, the second time he got it just belowe the eyebrow and sliced it open pretty good. Said he was going to see if he needed stitched - it was a close call on if he needs them or not, but I am no Dr so told him he should go get it checked anyways.

Not instant for sure!! Good stuff, it was actually garlic mashed potatos. Dam I am getting hungry thinking about it!

Ya its pretty physical with all teh bodies flying around. In the first game a guy headbutted me in the mouth - kind suprised that it didnt split the inner part of my lip, but I am fine. Split eyes are pretty rare though - you shouldnt have anything to be afraid of. Besides scars build character!

SLDLs = 115*10, 185*10 > Again I took it very light/easy. The stretch felt awesome though. Will be back at it next week

WEEKEND 2/1/03 2/2/03

Went pretty well. After a pretty early night on Friday (got in a lil past 1am) I headed out to do a bit of shopping with some friends (Jess and Jay). Was a good time. Got a couple of things but I didnt go to crrrazy. I owe all my shopping skilz to my ex gf - Nancy, a great teacher in the art of shopping:thumbup: .

A couple of us went over Jayson and Jessica's place to hang out and drink a bit before we went out. Then after an hour or so we headed out to Margaritas for a couple more drinks and to flirt with the waitresses :thumbup: . We eneded up at a small club called Augustenes where a friend of mine was playing the drums in a local band. They play a lot of cover stuff: Disturbed, Korn, Primus, Metallica, Tap Root, bla bla...even some Ozzy. They really sound great! So I spent at leat two hours jumping around in the "mini mosh pit" so I figured I got a fair amount of cardio work in! Hahaha.

Sunday was RR day! Just laid around the house, cleaned up a bit.

PUSH

BB Flat Bench = 135*10, 165*5, 195*10, 195*6.5
Got 10 full reps this week on my first heavy set of 195. I was going to do a 1RM but my left shoulder was bothering me from sleeping on it wrong or something. So i decided to hold off. The first set I had some clicking in my shoulder but the other sets were cool. No pain - no clicking.

Seated Overhead BB press (no back support) = 85*10, 120*7+2
Added 5lbs to the last set. 8 reps was soooo fuken close but i couldnt lock the mother out. Not bad here, im happy with this. Hope to see some improvment next week.

Cubans EZ Curl Bar = 30lbs*12, 30*12
Rotator work, felt good, nice and SLOW. This exercise feels great for my shoulders. I thought my left shoudler would bother me during this movement but it felt cool.

Plate Loaded Cable Pushdowns = 50*10, 100*7, 90*10
Was ok, thought i could have at least got 10 reps at 100lbs - NEXT WEEK it is MINE.

Lateral Raises, arms fully extended, slow reps = 15*12, 15*12
No change. These bothered my shoulder a little bit. Its kinda crazy how slow I do these. Oh well.

DIET

m1 - cereal w/milk
m2 - apple, 1can tuna, .75c oats
m3 - 3serv cashews
m4 - meatloaf yum
m5 - 1serv whey with milk banana
m6 - 30oz of beer, some chips and salsa :( :(

Anyway, just wondering, have you ever considering doing chest and shoulders on different days and doing a little more for each?

Or hell, maybe you use to do it and got no results from it. Just curious.

ericg

Nope, i have never tried. Would be kind of hard for me to have 4 sessions per week. Unless you had another idea? I like the 3x per week that I currently have so I want to keep it that way.

Here is what my currnet split looks like....

PUSH

BB Flat Bench - 4 sets total (2 work/ME)
Seated Overhead BB press - 2 sets (1 work/ME)
Cubans EZ Curl Bar - 2 sets (not MaxEffort sets)
Plate Loaded Cable Pushdowns - 3 sets (2 work/ME
Lateral Raises - 2 sets (not ME sets)

PULL

Chins curl grip - 4 sets (all work/ME sets)
DB BO rows - 3 sets (2 work/NOT ME sets - on the brink)
DB BO Rear Delt Raises - 2 sets (not ME sets)
Standing EZ bar curls - 3 sets (1warm 1work/me - plus a drop to failure)

LEGS/ABS

Squats - 4 sets (2 work/NOT me sets - no safety pins)
Standing calves - 2 work sets
Weighted Crunches - 2 work sets
Stiff Legged Dead Lifts (slight bend in knee) - 2 sets (1 work/close to ME set)

Feel free to rip it apart...

Isaac Wilkins

How do you like doing the SLDL's after calf work and stuff? I know that by the time I'm done with SLDL's, I'm ready to leave the gym. I still do calves, but I'm so wiped that I can't imagine having to stabilize on fatigued calves. :D

Nice benching! You're throwing some reps there!

ericg
02-04-2003, 12:25 PM
Borris - I have no problem doign calves before sldls. Although I should mention that I lift at home and have to use a DB with a step and hit one at a time. Id rather use a smith or something - but i work with what i have.

Thanks for the benching props :)

Mik

Hey Eric, just checked in for the first time. Gotta say nice reps on the bench man. 195x10 is great! Do you normally try to keep the reps around 10?

ericg
02-04-2003, 01:04 PM
Mik- Thanks for checking in man! Really appreciate the comments. Feel free to check in more often!

Ya, thats what I normally shoot for. I think I am ready to switch things up a bit though. I was thinking about doing 5x5 worksets on ONLY the major compound lifts. Not sure what exactly I am going to change so I am open for any advice that you or anyone may have. Thanks again

Well this is what I have come up with. Please give me your thoughts....

PUSH

BB Flat Bench – 6 total sets (2 warm, 4 work) CHANGE FROM 4 total (2warm, 2work shooting for sets of 10) example of change: 135*10, 165*10, 210*5*3sets (shoot for 5 reps, no more up weight when I can get 5 on the last set), 165*failure – for the burn.

Seated Overhead BB press – 2 total sets (1 warm 1 work to failure) NO CHANGE

Cubans EZ Curl Bar – 2 total sets (I shoot for a comfortable 10-15 reps) NO CHANGE

Plate Loaded Cable Pushdowns – 3 total sets (1 warm 2 work to failure) NO CHANGE

Lateral Raises – 3 total sets (a comfortable 10 reps) ADDED ONE SET

PULL

Chins curl grip – 4 total sets (first set to 10, all other sets to failure) NO CHANGE

DB BO rows – 3 total sets (1 warm, 2 work - on the brink of failure) NO CHANGE

DB BO Rear Delt Raises – 2 total sets (both close to failure) NO CHANGE

Standing EZ bar curls - 3 sets (1 warm, 2 work to failure - last is a drop set) NO CHANGE

LEGS/ABS

Squats – 6 total sets (2 warm, 4 work – close to failure – no safety pins) CHANGE FROM 4 sets (2 warm, 2 work close to failure –shoot for sets of 10) example of change: 115*10, 165*5, 200*5*3sets, 165*fatigue (shoot for about 10 reps) – for the burn.

Standing calves – 2 total sets only change will be: more weight, less reps – shoot for 10 (from 15 reps/set)

Weighted Crunches - 2 work sets NO CHANGE

Stiff Legged Dead Lifts (slight bend in knee) – 3 total sets (1 warm, 2 work) CHANGE FROM 2 sets (1 warm, 1 work close to failure shooting for 10 reps) example of change: 145*10, 215*5*2sets (this should be very close to failure, think I will be using more than this though since I have done 215*10 before)

as usual, will do each session once/wk

Any thoughts????

workhorse - thanks man! I shall see how it works.

Well here is what it looks like. I changed a couple things since the last post (thanks to Paul's help). Got rid of the lighter/higher rep sets at the end of the BP and Squat....

PUSH on Mondays

BB Flat Bench – 6 total sets (2 warm, 4 work) example of new sets/reps: 135*10, 165*10, 210*5*4sets (shoot for 5 reps, no more, up weight when I can get 5 on the last set)

Seated Overhead BB press – 2 total sets (1 warm, 1 work to failure)

Cubans EZ Curl Bar – 2 total sets (I shoot for a comfortable 10-15 reps)

Plate Loaded Cable Pushdowns – 3 total sets (1 warm, 2 work to failure)

Lateral Raises – 3 total sets (a comfortable 10 reps - need to push myself more on these though)

PULL on Wednesdays

Chins curl grip – 4 total sets (first set to 10, all other sets to failure. less then 10 reps - i know, im a wuss) progression seems to be halting at the moment, any suggestions?

DB BO rows – 3 total sets (1 warm, 2 work - on the brink of failure)

DB BO Rear Delt Raises – 2 total sets (both close to failure)

Standing EZ bar curls - 3 sets (1 warm, 2 work to failure - last is a drop set)

LEGS/ABS on Thursdays

Squats – 6 total sets (2 warm, 4 work – close to failure – no safety pins) example of new sets/reps: 115*10, 165*5, 200*5*4 sets

Standing calves – 2 total sets (2 work)

Weighted Crunches - 2 work sets

Stiff Legged Dead Lifts (slight bend in knee) – 3 total sets (1 warm, 2 work) example of new sets/reps: 145*10, 215*5*2sets (shoot for brink of failure, think I will be using more than this though since I have done 215*10 before)

Eric, I had the same problem with wide grip pull ups. What I did was strap on some weight and try for 4-6 reps for 2 sets then go to bw for the remainder of your sets. By doing this I started getting stronger so that bw pullups were pretty light and whenever I could get say 6 reps with weight next time I would add 5 lbs. It seems to work for me anyways.

PULL

Chins = BW+15lbs*6, 6, 6, 4.5
First time that I have EVER added weight. We shall see if this helps with my progression problems. Felt great though!! I held a DB between my feet which is a pain in the ass, next time i will strap some lbs to a belt.

DB BO Row = 65*10, 105*10, 105*10
Form was great. Added 10lbs to the last two sets for the same number of reps. Grip seems to be giving me a problem though. Not too bad to keep me from adding more, not yet

BO DB Rear Delt Raises = 35*12, 35*12
No change from last session, feels good. Think I will add 2.5lbs to the DB next week.

Standing EZ Bar Curls = 70*10, 90*9+2 forced, dropped to 60*13
Not bad here. MUCH better than last session by far. May be due to the lower number of reps for chins? Oh well. Will add some lbs to the heavy set next week. Just 5 lbs though.

DIET

was ok, the usual. only bad part was that i had a margarita when i went out. oh well

MISC

Played bball after lifting again. My fuken ars were shot when i got home. I was in the showah and the kept on cramping up on me. It was great. Good thing it wasnt head shaving night. Would have sliced my ear off for sure.

LEGS AND ABS

BB Back Squats = 115*10, 165*5, 215*5*4sets
Not bad today. First time with the 4sets*5reps thing. Some of the reps were slow but I got all of them up :thumbup: Will add 5lbs next week. FYI all reps done ATF.

DB Standing Calves - each leg = 75*15, 75*15
Kinda easy, will have to throw more weight on these and cut the reps a bit.

Weighted crunches - using plates = 50lbs *35, 60lbs*35
Felt good again. Will try and add another 10-15 lbs or so. Its starting to be a biatch to hold all these plates on my chest.

SLDLs = 145*10, 215*5, 235*5
This wasnt that hard at all. Will try 240lbs for both sets next week and see how that goes.

Overall it was a decent session. Took a little bit longer because of the added sets. I think I will like working in the 5 rep range.

DIET

COuld have been better.

MISC

Had a class this morning and i ate two doughnuts :(. THe class was VERY dry.

My leg/abs session was pretty good. Shaved my head afterwards and hit the club. They had a wet T contest which was ok. The nite didnt go as well as I would have hoped. Got in at 2am which i am sure I will pay for in the morning.

DIET GUIDELINES

Will be following NHE for the most part. Will be starting on 2/10/2003, or this Monday. Here are the guidelines...

Normal Days

* Protein and fat in every meal. Will be about 6 meals a day.

* Eat every 3-4 hours.

* Fiber (fibre)/green veggies every 2nd or 3rd meal. To keep things running smooth.

* Less than 20g of carbos.

Carb Loads - Carb load every 3,4, or 5 days.

* Split carbos over the LAST 1-2 meals until I feel stuffed but not sick. (other meals - see "normal day")

* Keep fat to a minimum.

* Keep protein low.

Carb Load/Drink Night - Once per week

* Moderate amount of carbos over the last 1 OR 2 meals of the day. (other meals - see "normal day")

* Keep fat to a minimum.

* Keep protein low.

* Alcohol.

General

* I will not be counting calories. I have a good idea of what I am eating as far as amounts go, so I am not going to stress over weighing foods and calculating calories.

* I am going to take a picture on Monday so I can see my progress. I have already taken about 4-5 pics since a little over a year ago. I have lost about 30-35lbs since then - mostly fat. No I cannot give you any BF%, but i can tell by the mirror and my strength levels - just trust me, it was mostly fat.

* Will weigh myself once/twice per week to track progress. Since carb loads will fuk with my weight, I am going to step on the scale the morning before my carb load day.

GOAL

My current weight is at about 180-185lbs (will step on the scale Monday morning). I would like to get my bodyfat down enough so I can see my abs easily while losing minimal LBM. Taking an educated guess I would say that I need to drop about +- 20lbs to be ripped. So for the next 4-5 months this will be my life.

2/8/03 & 2/9/03

Weekend went pretty good. Friday night we went out to Margaritas for a while, ate and drank. Then we headed over to a club at around 11:30 or so. Was a good time. Some gal gave me her phone number. She is very attractive, but has a child.

Saturday I wanted to check out the dealership that has the model bike that I want to get but my friends bailed on me and didnt want to go - those fukers. Will prob call the dealership up sometimes this week and get some questions answered. The club we went to at night was fuken packed. It was crrrrazy, awesome time. A lot of older people are always trying to pick me up. One lady was 44yo and she was like - i may be to old for you but you are the best looking guy in the place. haha, funny shiat. was a good time though. got my groove on all night. yeah baby. then went to a friends apartment and ate some very healthy food and consumed some beverages till about 4am.

2/10/2003 Day 1 of cut

PUSH

BB Flat Bench = 135*10, 165*5, 205*5*5*5*5
Not bad here. First time doing the 5reps*4sets for benching. Felt good. The last rep on the last set was a bit tough, but it went up. Will add 5lbs to all sets next week.

Seated Overhead BB press (no back support) = 85*10, 120*9.75
Nice improvement here (up 2.75 reps). I was soooo fuken pissed though. I was soooo close to locking out the 10th reps. Dam shiat. 10 reps is MINE next week easily.

Cubans EZ Curl Bar = 30lbs*12, 30*12
Rotator work, felt good, nice and SLOW. Felt great.

Plate Loaded Cable Pushdowns = 50*10, 95*12, 95*10
Dropped down to 95lbs and hit 12 reps. Not too shabby. I think the weight is very suspicious since the pulley system we have is so WORN its crazy. I have new pulleyes that will be installed soon, hopefully

Lateral Raises, arms fully extended, slow reps = 15*15, 17.5*12, 20*15
Going to push myself more with these. Sometimes I feel some discomfort in my shoulder. This session was pain free!

DIET NHE

m1 - 4 whole eggs
m2 - 1can tuna, 1tbsp walnut oil
m3 - Beef and cheese stick
m4 - 1can tuna, 1tbsp walnut oil, 1serv cashews
m5 - chicken breast, mixed veggies, lil bit of itilian dressing
m6 (post wo) - 2serv whey, 2tbsp olive oil
m7 - salad greens, chicken, itilian dressing

DEAD on today. Course it was only my first day into it, but its a killer start.

MISC

Went to margaritas after my lifting/showah. Had water the entire time I was there and also had that salad - yummy. Also took the time to explain to my bud, Matt, what I was doing with my diet. He was pretty interested. I told him how I wanted to lose bodyfat so my abs are visible and that I would prob have to lose 20lbs. He said that I was crazy for losing that much cuz he thinks I look cool as I am. The 20lbs isnt a set number - I am going by the mirror mostly. I really hope I stick with it this time. I have this fear of being a skinny bizatch, but I will be a ripped skinny bizatch - then it will be BULK time.

WEIGHT

188.5lbs - after a weekend full of drinking and eating lots of ****ty foods - i guess this is expected. Although I know I have gained some LBM in the past couple months so its all good!!

BennettBoy
02-11-2003, 06:57 AM
Diet definitely looks ace Eric. I'm not sure how much you will have to lose, but that is what I did 3.5 years ago before starting to lift. I got WAY DOWN and my abs were killer LOL, then I slowly started adding LBM by working out and eating properly.

Good plan. And who knows, maybe you want have to lose 20 before you start your bulk.

ericg
