I'm a little confused here. On fitday a cup of boiled (no salt, drained) brocolli has 43 calories whereas raw it has 24. I thought boiling veggies drained them of their nutrients not gave them more.... what gives?

Boiled takes less room, thus there is more broccoli in a cup of boiled broccoli.
Anyway, steaming is by FAR the best method to cook veggies.

i'm actually shooting for less nutrients as i'm playing around with a variation of the PSMF. So you can imagine how dissapointed i was when i thought i was getting more calories.
Also: boiling veggies doesn't actually reduce their size... so a cup of chopped broccoli is a cup of choppec broccoli no?
mm if i were you i'd get a cheap food scale
cups are not really that great a way to measure raw food.. maybe the boiled brocolli slides into the cup better so more can fit in

I refuse to weigh my broccoli.
Even I have my limits.

For veggies like broc/spinccie I just use cups. I guess if I was on a hardcore diet, I would be alot more accurate.

Honestly I can't see that 20kcal upsetting your efforts that much... you probably use that running up the stairs :P
