I just got off the BiggerFasterStronger program at my school. The coach that was training us preferred the hexbar deadlift. Now that I am off the BFS program, I want to know if there are greater benifits using barbell, or if I can continue using the hexbar.

Also, for a teenager, could I get away with squatting twice each week? I know people using gear do each bodypart multiple times a week and I was wondering if a teenager could also do it.

Yes, you could squat twice a week. Conventional DL is superior to hexbar.

Yea I tried using a hexbar and barbell pwns it. Using a hexbar makes it feel less compound then a barbell, I don't know why.

Your back is locked in and doesn't move.

Thanks to both of you.

Two times squat a week is no problem. But don't try the same with deadlift :)

What is a hexbar? Hexagonally shaped barbell?

I wouldn't say a barbell is better than a hex bar for deadlifting, just different.

The hex bar will transfer more load to your legs (than you back), making it more like a hack squat motion.

BB > Hex

I wouldn't suggest squating twice a week

you don't have to be on gear to hit a muscle 2 or 3 times a week.

:withstupi just depends on volume

A week is not a physiologically relevant time period.

I find it easier to DL more on a Hex, does anyone else feel the same? I think it's because I seem to use my quads more to get the weight up, I used to use a hex bar in HS, but now it's all about the BB.

Yes, it should be much easier.

Note that a sumo stance is more different in terms of muscle recruitment from a conventional dead than a trap bar dead is from conventional.

Here's another discussion that went on a few weeks back.
