I had journal back in May-August but for some reason stopped posting in it. From September to October I was playing first string wide reciever for the junior boys football team but ended up quitting in mid-Octbober because it just wasn't my thing. It ended up being a nice break from lifting, but it also made me realize how much I love it. I've had some nice gains since then and just recently decided to focus on the big 3 and powerlifting.

I've been lifting for about a year and four months and my stats are in my signature.

Today's workout went very well, as i'm trying out a routine I made.

Bench Press - 6x150, 5x160, 5x160, 4x165, 4x165 (easy, will gain next week)

Close grip bench press - 10x95, 10x105, 10x115, 10x125

Squat - 6x225, 5x235, 5x235, 4x245, 4x245

Leg Curls laying - Too many machine jockeys to grab one

Calf Raises - 10x165, 10x165, 10x165, 10x165

Welcome to journal land. At you're age, you've got a lot to look forward to. I suggest checking out some of the 5x5 programs people have implemented, or even some Westside Style splits if you're interested in solely bringing up the Big 3.

Today's workout went very well. I tried the overhand underhand technique for deadlifting and I bet it will put quite a few pounds on my deadlift, I hope to max 3 plates on each side by next week.

Wednsday- This was my day off in my routine. I was supposed to come home from school and punch my heavy bag for about an hour, but I had a headache and felt like **** from getting up early for school.

Today- Another great workout, a little bit interesting too. One guy was benching more reps than he could handle and got pinned under the bar with no spotter. He was lucky, because i was the only one around to help him.

I beat my personal record in bench as well, almost easily. The guy that was spotting me told me how "easy" it was for me, and told me I was going to do that same weight for FIVE reps. It ended up being pretty stupid because he helped me along from the very first rep. I would have been lucky to get maybe 2 reps un-assisted with that weight.

Lastly, I widened my squatting stance and did more of a power squat today. I ended up beating another personal record.

Bench Press- 5x135, 3x170, 3x170, 2x180, 2x180, 1x200 (PB), ?x200 (5 assisted)

Tricep dips - 5xbw, 5xbw, 5xbw, 6xbw, 4xbw

Last workout of the week and I hit a milestone 3 pps on the deadlift. Felt awesome, plus the pussies at my gym were all staring at me. The bad news is i'm having some shoulder problems when hitting the military press. My left shoulder might have a slight tear or something, because when I'm doing a shoulder exercise it feels almost cold, sort of a numb feeling.

Dumbell Military Press - 10x40, 6x50, 6x55, 4x60, 2x65 (each hand)

Lateral raises - shoulder too messed up to do anything

Deadlift - 6x225, 3x275, 3x275, 2x295, 2x295, 1x315 (PB)

Chinups (absolutely horrendous) - 3xbw, 3xbw, 3xbw, 3xbw, 3xbw, 4xbw, 3xbw

Now I have the weekend off, though i'd rather be at the gym.

hey great job on the deadlift PR man - haha I only get about 250 for reps and I love when the scrawny guys around me stare. Or even better when they try to rep 200+ on bench and need their spotter to help them on EVERY rep (and they only go down halfway to begin with!) I totally recommend only asking guys to spot you if you've seen them before and they know what they're doing - otherwise, who knows, you might get some dip who wants to help you along from every single rep and that's a pain.

Haha, the guy that spotted me on that bench press last week was actually a dream compared to the guy I had to resort to today. I went to take a piss, and when I come back there are these two average sized guys staring at the 210 pounds on my bench. So I ask him to spot me, and the guy seems almost star-struck. I tell him I just want to max it so don't help me unless i'm pinned under the weight. I bring it down to my chest and push it up a couple inches off my chest where i'm going extremely slow with it, pushing it as hard as I can. I was 100% sure i'd be able to just push through it and get it up, but this guy all of a sudden grabs the bar and puts it on the rack. At this point i'm furious because I just missed a chance at a new PB, and this mother ****er is looking at me as if he just saved my life.

My shins were bleeding quite a bit today from deadlifts, it felt and looked awesome. I rubbed some on my workout sheet so that I know my blood, sweat, and tears went into my workouts, haha.

I was supposed to do dumbell military press today but decided I enjoy barbell military press too much. I've also been breaking personal records like crazy ever since I started powerlifting. I love it.

Weekends are rest days so I punched my heavy bag at home for only about a half hour. My shoulders were fatigued and I felt like I had enough so I didn't go any longer than that.

I've had a bad cold all week and i've missed 2 days of school so far. I tried working out on Tuesday after school and did alright on the bench, but the squat rack wasn't open and I was fed up so I cut the workout short. Today I feel even worse than I did before that so I decided to take this week off from working out. I'm really bummed out about it.

I'm still not feeling completely 100% but I was close enough, and I couldn't sit on my ass any longer. I didn't go to the gym or anything, I did a heavy bag workout. I did 13 (supposed to do 15 but dinner was ready) rounds of 3 minutes, with 1 minute in between each round. It felt great and my shoulders weren't as fatigued as I thought they would have been.

Could anybody give me an estimation on how many calories something like this would burn?

I was pretty excited to be working out again after being sick, but once I got to my gym and started lifting I wasn't so enthusiastic. My gym is becoming more and more crowded every day, the atmosphere isn't very intense, and the music is brutal, I honestly become very tired when I work out there.

If you look back at my last post you can see how fed up I am with my current gym. For some reason I hadn't thought of it but my dad has had a power cage, barbell, dumbell, lat pulldown/seated row station, and basically exactly what I need for a workout. He still works out on it and its been right in front of me this whole time. I had an intense workout today like I haven't had in such a long time. The only downside is that the bar isn't olympic so it is only 15 pounds and he only has 2 50's so I have to load a bunch of 25s on when doing heavy excersizes.

Military Press - 5x75, 5x135, 4x140, 3x145, 2x150, 2x150, 1x155, 1x155 (PB)

Clean and Jerk (first time doing it) - 3x115, 3x135, 1x155, 1x155

Day off from lifting, so I punched the heavy bag for 10 rounds of 3 minutes each, with 1 minute rest in between. I felt a lot more fatigued than I did last time but I was also punching and throwing combos almost the entire time during rounds. I think i'd love getting more into something like boxing or kickboxing.

Today was huge for me on the bench as I added 15 pounds to my max. Squats weren't so great because we don't have a mirror to look at so judging parallel was kind of frustrating. I didn't do leg extensions or leg curls because I find them a waste of time so next time I work out i'll just do more sets of squats.

The best workout i've had in a long time, and probably the most sets i've ever done in a single workout, about 35. I also broke two personal bests, and missed my first deadlift ever, only to hit it on the next set. I feel I can push myself harder at home because nobody is watching.

I hit a huge landmark on the bench today. Last summer my goal was to max 225 by the end of June this year, but I hit it today. New record on the squat too, though I don't think I got quite deep enough.

Today was my first day of real calorie counting cutting. Not too bad so far but i'm sure it gets worse. Every meal tastes better though.

Today was a rest from lifting so I punched the heavy bag for 12 rounds of 3 minutes with 1 minute rest in between. I was feeling a little dead at the start but once I loosened up I was feeling great.

haha I didn't know there were any other musclehead Jason Becker fans! Right on dude, i'll definetely have to check out your journal.

Today wasn't a great workout because my squats felt more awkward than usual. I need to buy a large mirror so that I can be sure i'm at parallel when i'm at the bottom. I need some sweat pants too because the shorts I wear are not stretchy. After the workout me and the family went to the Keg Steakhouse for my sister's birthday, which was great but I had to really save up calories before that.

It's been Easter holidays this whole week for me so I decided to take a week off from lifting. I've kept my calories at a good level and have lost a total of 5 pounds now in just over 2 weeks. Hopefully after this week off i'll get my lifting motivation back.

Lost another pound this week, down to 174. Pretty disappointed with my bench because I was soooo close to getting 210. By the end of my cut I want to have it back up at 210 or 215 so that when I bulk again I only have to put 10 pounds on it to be back at 225.

Risk - Thanks bud, that last deadlift was sooo slow getting up I was so glad to hit it.

Today is luckily a day off from lifting. I feel extremely sore from yesterday's deadlifts especially in the glutes and hams. I didn't do much physical activity but I did spend about an hour and a half raking the lawn.

Today was a rest day. I would have normally boxed for 10 or more rounds on the heavy bag but got my hair cut instead and then went to drivers ed.

I weighed in at about 171 today so i'm steadily dropping weight.

I weighed in this morning at 170 so i've pretty much reached my goal and i'm deciding whether or not I want to keep cutting or not. I was going to box today but I've got a nasty cut on my knuckle from boxing and falling in football in gym class.

Today was my birthday meal so we went to this place called "The Cattle Baron" where I had my first cheat day in about 6 weeks of cutting. I had a seafood platter for and appetizer (shrimp, calamari etc), a 10 oz filet mignon with a stuffed potato for main course, and a dark chocolate cake for dessert. It was insane.

I decided what i'm going to do for the next little while for lifting. I will stay on my cutting diet only for another week or so, so that I am a pound or two under 170. As of next week though I will be starting my musclemedia bench press routine that put my bench up 45 pounds in 7 weeks last time I used it. With this I will also be starting my full out powerlifting routine so I'm hoping to make some big gains as soon as my cut is over. Also, I will continue doing ATF squats during my 7+ weeks of powerlifting. I will most likely be on maintenance calories after the cut is done.

Just a random thing, but Vector cereal kicks ass. With 250 mL of 1% milk you get about 56 grams of carbs, 13 grams of protein, and only about 4 grams of fat. I sometimes eat it in the morning or before a workout. Most people would argue that the 21 g of sugar in the cereal is bad, but damn does it ever taste good.

170lbs. That would be my ideal weight for my goals. Just over 12 stone. I think Id look pretty damn beefy at 170lbs @ 5 ft 6.

I worked out at the YMCA today because I had to work right after, and it is right by my Eastside Mario's. I got to show off a bit with the deadlifts and clean and jerks.

Military Press (felt different with olympic bar) - 5x135, 4x140, 3x145, 2x150, 1x160

Deadlift - 5x135, 5x225, 4x300, 3x310, 2x320, 1x345

Clean and Jerk(funny to see looks on people's faces when they think i'm just deadlifting) - 5x135, 1x165, 1x185, 1x195 (PR)

Today was an okay workout up until my squats. I wasn't feeling strong and it just really ruined my workout. I've been having trouble staying motivated lately because i'm so bored with everything. I might try a pure olympic lifting routine after i'm done my powerlifting phase.

I was pretty motivated in the gym today after my military presses because some relatively big grade 12 guy was trying to tell me that I was never going to get strong doing standing military presses and that seated ones would only make me strong. When I was doing singles for deads I was looking him in the eye the whole time and I knew he probably couldn't do much more or any more than I was doing.

Military Press - 5x135, 4x140, 3x145, 2x150, Fx165

Deadlift - 5x135, 5x225, 3x275, 3x295, 3x315 (PR), 1x325, 1x335, 1x335
On Friday I'm going to try to pull 350 for the first time

I'm not dead or anything i've just been taking some time off from lifting. I just started working about 5 days a week and i'm trying to get into the swing of things before I work my lifting schedule into that. I don't want to overdo it. I've have about 2 workouts since the last ones i've posted but I don't really remember them.

I'm just keeping my journal alive again. I always tell myself "tomorrow I will start working out again" but I always feel so drained from work the next day it never happens. Maybe I just need the time off from lifting.

Goodwinner - I have stayed exactly the same weight

I did a mini workout on the bench a while back just to make sure i'm not losing strength. If anything i've gained a little bit.

Bench Press - 5x135, 3x210, 3x210, 1x225, 1x225, Neg x 250

I'm back from my trip. It was the best time of my life. I've decided to stay active by boxing, swimming and whatever other fun ways I can find. For some reason working out all the time just doesnt seem as appealing as it used to. I will probably still do the olympic lifts and bench occasionally.

Well man as long as your happy with what your doing go for it. Its just sad that you dont find workin out as awesome as it used to be, but hey that might change in the future. For now you just focus on staying fit healthy and havin a great time! As i said before, your young. Enjoy it all :)
