I prefer flax. I like fish, but the fish burps are annoying.

from the article... ''While the metabolic products of omega-6 acids promote inflammation, blood clotting, and tumor growth, the omega-3 acids act entirely opposite''... omega 6 are BAD for you?! I thought all un-saturates have blood cleansing qualities which promote a less chance of clotting? Say this aint so.

Make sure you get a good ratio of EPA to DHA. I take Solaray Super PurEPA 360mg EPA, 240mg DHA.

Balance

It's also very important to make sure that your diet contains the right balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. A healthy diet consists of roughly two to four times more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids. In other words, for every four grams of omega-6 fatty acids, aim for at least one gram of omega-3 fatty acids.

Because traditional sources of fat (such as butter) have been replaced with vegetable oils (sunflower oil and corn oil, for example), the typical diet contains 14 to 25 times more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids. A diet that contains too many omega-6 fatty acids at the expense of omega-3 fatty acids also limits the conversion of alpha-linolenic acid into EPA and DHA.

This doesn't mean there are no benefits of flaxseed oil. Foods high in alpha-linolenic acid (such as walnuts and flaxseed oil) are a useful addition to the diet of anyone who wants a leaner, healthier body. They should, however, be consumed as part of a diet containing high-fat, cold-water fish (such as salmon) and/or fish oil supplements.

Hmm...nice info...I'm not obsessive enough to control the ratio of omegas, though.

I take anywhere from 4-10 a day depending on what other fats I eat. Never noticed any issues with burps, or anything. Just take them with a protein based meal and your good to go. Just had 2 scoops of protein and 6 fishcaps as a nightcap before I hit the sheets.

flax & other plant sources of ala have terrible conversion to epa/dha. take your fish.

and yeah its much easier to take a few caps and then be able to eat whatever you want.

w-3 aren't terrible for you, espcially if you don't have to worry about coversion (eg you are taking your fish oil) but w-9s are the healthiest fat for the bulk of your intake.

Great link!

I take 3 fish oils per day (what the bottle recommends) with meals, which kills the fish burps, blech.

And I put a tablespoon of flax oil in both my protein shakes every day.

I take about 12 capsules throughout the day and yes...the burps are nasty as hell if you take the capsules without food.

Doesn't that rack up the cost pretty quick? They are like $6 for the "big" container at wal-mart!
