Is eating whole wheat bagels ok, either pre workout for some carbs or even for breakfast once and a while just to switch things up. I recently found out there is fat free cream cheese as well, with little sugars in it. Maybe a bagel, cream cheese, half a glass of milk with some whey for a preworkout meal? It has the carbs and protein.

preworkout you don't really want protein...you want fast digesting carbs...bagels aren't simple enough to digest fast so no that isn't an IDEAL preworkout meal. Would it work? Yes. But its not ideally what you would have preworkout.

I thought you want some protein?

A little protein won't hurt anything, but you want some fast digesting carbs pre-workout.

But, in general, eating a bagel would be ok...there some reason you think it would not be ok?

Fast digesting doesn't mean High GI right? Because I know you dont really want high GI, which is why most people (including myself right now) make oatmeal shakes preworkout. You dont want a carb crash at the end of your workout Anyone have any articles on the digestion rates of carbs, I dont know much about this

High GI is a relative term because the GI of a certain food can be changed depending on what you mix it with.

The digestion of a food says the same no matter what is in it, like extra fibers or fat?

Bagel and creamcheese would work for a preworkout meal. Just eat it 90-120 mins before you train.

^^

Yeah. I eat bagels/cream cheese sometimes before a workout. These Orowheat bagels I buy have around 60 grams of carbs and 10 grams of fiber...plus they taste awesome. :)

10g of fiber per bagel? thats impressive and i might have to look into it, i definetly am deficient in fiber intake.

Yeah. The brand is Orowheat. I buy the bread from them as well. Lots of carbs, lots of fiber. The bagels are soft and chewy and so good. Or you can make 'em crispy. I don't to leave 'em in the toaster that long, though.

It might actually be 9 grams of fiber...which is still pretty good.
