/I'll take my problems to the weight floor/ Let the iron make my spirit soar.

So here's my plunge into the world of Journals.

Some brief general history: I was made skinny. Very skinny. To the tune of 148lbs @ 6'-2.8" (190cm). Couldn't seem to gain weight no matter what I did. :whiner:

I first wandered into a gym at 19 but without a clue. By trial and error I started putting up better numbers in the last couple of years and have managed to gain some bulk. A year ago I discovered WBB and almost immediately had to have my appendix out, so it gave me time to do some browsing, learning, etc. I went back to the gym in early July of 2005 at 175lbs. I'm considering that the beginning of my real training.

Currently I'm ~200lbs, bf% is somewhere in the low 20's (my guess).

This last weekend was a big party weekend, and yesterday was my first trip back to the gym. I'm on a Lower/Upper split 2x/week. I skipped legs because they still hurt from 12 hours of working out my problems on the dancefloor and the workout was still a "recovery" workout... :whiner:

4/11/06

Incline DB- 50x8, 65x9, 75x7
Low Row (cable)- 100x8, 140x8, 170x6
Seated Chest Press- 90x10, 135x8, 155x5
Lat Pulldown- 100x8, 140x8, 170x8
Bent Over Laterals (cable)- 30x7, 50x4, 40x4
Shouder DB Press- 40x8, 50x8, 60x4
Tricep Cable Pushdowns- 60x8, 80x7, 100x7
Hammer Curls- 35x8, 45x5
Reverse Curls- just the oly bar, sets of 7, 8, 8

Right median delt started bothering me on the incline DB. I was planning 4 sets but cut it at three, and then the seated chest press was a bitch- could hardly find a position to press without shoulder pain. Spent the whole workout shaking it out and massaging it like an idiot. At least the music in my ears was excellent (Your Child- Chocolate girlfriend mix, Perculator- Twilo mix, and some Live @ Roxy 4). Must have listened to Mary J some 4x and Perculator at least twice. Wrists complained at the higher DB weight at the beginning of the workout but were better by the time of the shoulder press.

You know, with the amount of time I spend in GenChat I was beginning to ask the same question... ;)

I will most likely do a mini cut, not so much for summer, but to avoid buying new pants. My summer stuff from last year is... errr... mostly Medium. I'm sporting Large these days. After the mini cut I will maintain until fall and then bulk bigtime (cleanly).

Hehehe... Thank you. Less is more, I figure (about the title).

I will continue with my current routine for another month and then will switch it up to Built's BGB. I used to hit the gym as much as 6x/week and it was clearly not doing it for me.

Thank you thank you. I was happy with the workout. I was surprised that I still had enough power in my shoulders for the shoulder press. :) A year ago I would not have done 60's even if I had started my workout with shoulders.

There was no workout yesterday, 4/12, as it was both a rest day and Passover. My mini cut obviously will have to wait as I could not pass up the gefiltefish, potato kugel (yummmmmmmmmmm), mazzo ball soup, and other goodies. Best of all was the kugel... :drooling:

Allrightie,

4/13/06 Lower Body

Leg Press- 2.5px8, 4px6, 5px6, 5.5px6
Deads- 95x8, 135x8, 185x6, 205x5, 205x4
Extensions- 60x8, 70x7, 80x6, 100x6
Leg Curls- 70x8, 70x8, 90x6, 90x6
Seated Calf Raise- 90x10, 140x8, 160x8
Straight Leg Calf Raise (on cable leg press)- 100x10, 137x10, 165x10

It was a decent workout, not great. I planned to go to 6 plates on the leg press but as I was finishing my 4th set Diana arrived at the gym (she's one of my best friends, and was late due to traffic) and I had to go sign her in because she isn't a member (she's a NYSC gal). I didn't go back to the leg press after that. I didn't feel as strong on it as I normally would, anyway. My deads suck... 205 is the most I've done, I think. Next week I'll increase it. My grip gets iffy even at 205... ugh.

Diana had a great workout. We didn't match up schedules this week so she did upper body on her own. I spotted her a few times on skull crushers, on the lat pulldown, on curls, and on military presses (not necessarily in that order). She did very well, pushing beyond what she normally does. In the end she walked out with a Bally membership (that's where we worked out today). :)

I've never tried split squats. According to http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Quadriceps/BBSplitSquat.html it looks like a fixed lunge with a barbell. I can definitely do those as well. I'm not married to the leg press, that's for sure. I will do those next time I do legs- Monday. Tonight is another upper body day.

Yesterday's workout went down the ****ter from the get-go. Here's what I was able to get done:

Upper Body

BB Bench Press- 95x8, 135x8, 175x4...!@!$#@$#%$ 175x4, 145x8
Assisted Narrow Grip Chins- BW-40x8, BW-20x8, BW-20x5
Incline DB Press- 45x8, 60x8, 75x4....

The !@!$#@$#%$ signifies getting a phonecall from Diana where she told me that she had gotten laid off from work. :( That ruined my concentration completely. She asked me to come up to Hoboken to hang with her and her coworkers for a few and after floundering around with a couple more movements where I had no concentration I gave up and went up to Hoboken.

Today I'm planning to "finish" yesterday's workout with some shoulder and arm movements. D will be with me for this one.

Skull Crushers (BB)- 55x8, 75x8, 75x8

Nah. I don't get along with Kosher well. It gets in my way of eating the stuff I like. Guess who wins? I had matza once during the First Seder, and since then I've been feeding chocolate-covered matza to Diana. Are you keeping Kosher?

I was advised to add matza (soaked lightly in water) to scrambled eggs with onions as a "way Jewish, and totally tasty" Passover meal. I will try it sometime this week.

Seated Calf Raises- 90x8, 180x7, 180x7, 180x7

Dancing Saturday nights away makes for decent cardio but ****ty workouts after. No sleep Saturday night but got 12 hours last night. I'm surprised I made it to the gym today. Glad I did, though. Diana worked out with me and it was nice.

Built,
Did Good Mornings today for the first time ever. Not sure I have the form down yet but it was interesting. At 105 I started to feel my form slip a bit and felt my lower back strain a bit. Is that supposed to happen?

Clifford Gillmore
04-18-2006, 04:53 AM
Definately not supposed to happen Mike, make sure your keeping your core as tight as you can!

As for the dancing, I make sure I've got a fair bit of blood moving in my legs before I jump on the floor. Mind you, I don't really develop doms apart from in my glutes - so Its just painful when someone slaps my ass :/ Good workouts!

TwiloMike
04-18-2006, 06:17 AM
Thanks buddy! I didn't think that it was supposed to happen either. My core isn't as strong as it could be. I will make a point, starting today, to include the "dead bug" into my workout. I warmed up before hitting the floor, though. I always do a 6-10 min warm up.

Upper Body

Warm up- 6 mins.
Flat Bench Press (BB)- 95x8, 135x8, 185x7, 190x5 (PR!), 135x10, 135x7
Bent Over Rws (DB)- 45x10, 60x10, 70x10
Incline Bench Press (DB)- 45x8, 60x8, 80x3
Lat Pulldown- 100x8, 137x8, 175x5
Shoulder Press (DB)- 45x8, 50x7, 60x5
Bent Over Laterals (DB)- 20x10, 30x10, 30x10

Overall felt like a great workout. I didn't necessarily have the stamina toward the end but I had energy and felt very uplifted. It was a very busy day at the gym and I subbed a couple of movements instead of the ones I normally do to save some time and keep the momentum going. I could have done a bit more on the bent over laterals but it was my last excercise and I was itching to get home. Diana worked out with me again, though she is still getting used to the new gym so she wandered around on her own, taking it all in. I didn't do arms because I was running over 1.5 hours and didn't want to stay at the gym late.

edit: forgot the "dead bug"... damn.

Heh, I'm surprised I did it, and with decent form also. Yesterday was an odd day- I jumped out of bed all energized, got ready for work in record time, the whole morning I was super awake. After lunch, though, I was barely keeping my head up in the office... I was dragging in a really bad way. When I got to the gym I had no idea what to expect, so when I hit the bench and felt good about it it was a huge relief. :)

Cool stuff then, but how is the diet looking Mike? Your not eating out everyday are you?
Diet is "OK", I think. Never entered it into fitday, though.

A typical work/gym day looks as follows:

Breakfast- oat bran + egg/meat/fruit, or scrambled eggs or something of the sort.
Mid-morning Snack- nuts+banana+yogurt
Lunch- chicken/beef/fish + brown rice. Sometimes add soup (everything brought from home)
Second Lunch (before leaving work)- half a sandwich or wrap with grilled chicken + veggies. (made at home or bought at a health conscious deli)
At the gym- protein shake
Dinner- chicken/beef/fish + brown rice. (at home, made at home)
At bedtime- Nitrean + milk shake.

I rarely eat out, usually once a week or so with friends, half the time it's sushi. Fast food and deep fried stuff are not on the menu. Soda/pop is not on the menu. Water/tea are my main drinks. Whaddaya think?

Clifford Gillmore
04-19-2006, 08:03 AM
Very solid! I take back the potassium comment since you've got the banana in there :) I would add another serving of veggies at dinner, even if its a cup of brocolli and cauliflour (Bless microwavable frozen bulkpacks!) and maybe more nuts/oil supplements on days where you have chicken as one of your staples.

So you take a cooler bag to work with everything prepared?

TwiloMike

Thank you. :) I've no idea what my calorie intake is, I just know when I'm gaining weight and when I'm not. I'm above maintenance now for sure.

I have a very iffy relationship with veggies... never liked them and they were never a significant part of my family's diet. I've been making a conscious effort to increase consumption of them but they're just tasteless!

So you take a cooler bag to work with everything prepared?
Not a cooler bag, really. In my department we have a coffee station with a small fridge, so everything goes in there. I just bring a bag with tupperware, wrapped sandwiches, etc. I'm known as a bottomless pit in the office.

Veggies don't have to be THAT boring. Yams in jackets, sweet pumpkin, sweat peas. The essential thing is to get away from the mentallity of brussel sprouts being the flavour of veggies. I've come from a similar situation on the family thing, after breaking myself out of that mould I feel/sleep/look better, ten fold. Good work with putting in the effort man!

Heh, is that so? We'll have to see about that. ;)

See, thing is, I'm not exactly opposed to vegetables- I put 'em away like there's not tomorrow when I eat out, I just can't bring myself to cook/prepare them at home. It seems like such a huge effort for so little sustenance. I will eat everything from tomatoes, cucumbers, asparagus, spinach, to broccoli, zuccini, etc, as long as it's prepared well.

You guys are making me feel guilty. I might have to run out and get a salad to complement my lunch. Damn you, people! :p

Slice brussel sprouts in half, toss with 2 T. EVOO (that's extra virgin olive oil for you non-foodies) and a dash of kosher salt, bung in the oven at 350 F and roast for 45 minutes. Cracked black pepper on them. They're great.

Seated Calf (plates)- 90x10, 140x7, 190x6, 190x7 (PR!)

*Last time I did legs I felt after the workout that my right groin muscle was kinda sore. Not much but enough to be uncomfortable for a few hours. I was sure it was gone, but on the very first set of LPs, on the warm up set, I felt it pretty strongly. I cut that very short and focused on ham work instead. I'm glad I did. Felt great about SLDLs and GMs. Despite the lack of a squat/press movement I am happy with what I did.

Nice work on the deads, and you seem to be coming along very nicely with the GMs - these are BRUTAL when you're tall. Damned long levers ...

Heh, no ****. I had very good form today (from what I could tell) on the GMs. I am trying to not push it too much because it is quite a delicate movement. I'm proportional, so my torso is fairly long. Thanks for the heads up! :)

Upper Body

5 min warmup
Bench Press (BB)- 95x10, 135x10, 185x7, 195x4(PR!)
Low Row (cable)- 110x10, 140x10, 180x6
Incline Bench Press (DB)- 45x10, 60x8, 80x7(PR!), 80x3
Shoulder Press (DB)- 45x8, 55x4, 55x0
Bent Over Laterals (DB)- 20x10:10, 25x10:10, 30x9:9, 35x7:7
Tricep Pushdowns (cable)- 90x10, 110x10, 130x10 (there was no more weight to add)
Hammer Curls (DB)- 35x8:8, 45x4:4, 45x3:3
Forearms work on cables
Cable crunches
Side Bends

Somewhat incomplete routine but it had its high points. My back is still spent from yesterday, so when I attempted chins it said "NO". The bench was great- I felt strong, had a good spotter who didn't overspot, and I pushed well. My shoulders were so spent that I couldn't press up 55s on my third set... I just couldn't lock out on the first rep! Music was fantastic- I put the Twilo cd on, listened to both the first and second cd's of it, and went through the whole routine totally in the zone. The gym was mostly empty so I had my pick of equipment and my zone remained intact.

Next week I will start BGB.

The two Twilo cds are so wildly different. Grandma is in great form on the second one, almost every mix is his, it's got a great tempo and the buildup between tracks 8 & 9 is unlike anything I'd heard on any other cd. Awesome production. The first cd is like the playful, non-Junior Junior. I like that he kept the two ways of spinning separate on the cd. The pots and pans at the end of the first cd is nothing like Peter, at least not from that time period. It's all Grandma, all the way. It's one of my absolute favorite albums ever.

8 min warm up
Squats- 95x10, 135x8, 155x7, 155x6
SLDLs- 95x10, 135x8, 185x8, 225x6(PR!), 225x4
Single Leg Extensions (cable)- 75x8:8, 90x8:8, 105x7:7, 120x5:5
Single Leg Curls (cable)- 40x6:6, 50x5:5 negatives: 60x5:5
2 Calf movements, one cable, one with plates- 4 sets each
Cable "Prayer" Crunches- 3 sets

My hams hurt! :) In a good way. I stayed clear of the leg press, fearing that it will aggravate my tentative groin pull from last week so I did light-ish squats instead and made it another ham-heavy day. Overall, felt good.

I'm trying out Thermocin right now, a three week mini cut, trying to see how low I can go. Everything feels weird from the pills, though I definitely have more energy than before I started. I'm considering that to be a plus.

I was supposed to start BGB today but chickened out. My wrist hurts like a mother****er from last week's bench. I used to think that my shoulders were my weak point and I worked on solving that problem. Now it seems that my wrists are the weak link- after a heavy bench they ****ing hurt! Perhaps my grip isn't right or maybe my wrists are just weak. Do wrists straps help in any way? I don't see anyone at the gym wearing anything on their wrists... is there anything I can do to aid my wrists? The pain, currently in the left wrist, is on the outside at the forearm bone, where a watch would sit...

5 min warm up
Bench Press (BB)- 115x10, 135x10, 185x6, 185x4
Fixed End Bent Over Row (BB)- on bar: 25x10, 45x10, 80x10, 115x10
Incline Bench (cable)- 100x8, 125x7...
Rear Lateral Raises (DB)- 20x10:10, 25x10:10, 35x8:8, 35x7:7
Shoulder Press (machine with plates)- 35(per arm)x10, 50x8, 70x2

Today was somewhat scattered. I didn't sleep too well last night and then I was super busy at work today, which was a nice change of pace. I debated whether to hit the gym or not because my left wrist was still sore. I felt I could do select pushing/pulling movements as long as I didn't have to do a lot of balancing of weights. Bench was ok, the bent over row was nice. I had never done it before, so I tested myself. Felt good. Skipped DB work for the most part, skipped arms. Aside from the Rows I rate tonight's workout a solid "Meh". Glad I went, though.

Tomorrow is my day off, I'll prolly go shop for some kind of wrist device.

Thanks man. On the BB bench it doesn't bother me too much, except on the initial lift off. I skipped DB incline because I didn't want to balance any weight in a single hand.

The fixed end row is precisely that. It was strange doing it for the first time because I wasn't sure exactly where to grip the bar, had to play around with it a bit. The damn 45 plate kept hitting me in the chest. My gym doesn't have a lever to hold the bar with to allow some distance between the bar and chest.

lol ah... a t-bar row...getto style. hehehe

Does the gym have a v-bar attachment for cable rows? It's what I've been using. Anthony does them without any attachment like you've just described, not sure how he avoids the 45's banging him in the head.

Yeah, the t-bar row. I had to look up the name in the exrx muscle directory to make sure I wasn't talkin' outta my ass. I love the movement, totally prefer it to single hand DB rows (balancing myself with knee and hand on a bench puts a ****load of strain on the damn wrists).

cphafner- Thank you!

rookiebldr
04-26-2006, 02:55 PM
Actually I've never noticed any strain on the wrist with db rows. But I do like them in the routine since they tend to hit my back differently than the db rows. Look for the handle in the cable row area or I think there's a vid of Anthony doing them without any handle, you might get an idea from that. Let me know if you can't find it, or PM Anthony.

TwiloMike
04-26-2006, 05:47 PM
I'm sure I can figure it out. The strain that I get on my wrists when doing DB rows is on the hand that rests on the bench (palm flat down). Bending my wrist back with pressure on it ****ing hurts. Perhaps it's carpal tunnel sneaking up on me or something? I dunno.

5 min warm up on a borked elliptical
Squats- 95x8, 135x8, 185x6, 185x6, 135x6
Good Mornings- barx10, 75x8, 95x8, 115x7, 95x7
......long rest chatting with Diana and spotting her on skull crushers......
Deads- 115x8, 165x8, 215x6, 215x4
Crunches with weighted ball

I planned on going light tonight because I still felt my hams/glutes sore from Monday's workout. I ended up doing what is heavy for me on both squats and GMs, though. Couldn't resist. Diana showed up late and ended up doing a half-ass upper body workout (she turned it into an arm blitz). We then both ended our workouts with decline crunches catching a weighted ball. That was probably the most fun part of the workout. People at the gym seem very confused every time she shows up... normally I have a gay workout buddy but when D is around we act like we're together- we've always done that. It's fun watching people scratch their heads.

04-27-2006, 07:54 PM
Heh, if you had been paying attention, Monday I did 225x4.

What's the significance of pulling singles, though? I don't particularly care to know my personal maximum, I just want to keep increasing the weight and have ongoing hypertrophy. What will a 1 rep max do for me at say 250, that 225x4 won't?

rookiebldr
04-27-2006, 08:00 PM
oh, I forgot. Do 250x1 then. It will feel totally different doing a max since it will strain every muscle to get the lift...when you get there close to your max and you're lifting really heavy. I also think with this lift if you can do it right, you can doing it pretty safe.

Maxing out can shock the sh*t out of your CNS, putting you into a brand new strength and muscle building phase :) Just by changing the rep level you keep your body from getting used to the abuse you give it.

I'm taking off till either Monday or mid-week. I'm sick and tired of the wrist pain- holding even an empty dinner plate by its edge is ****ing painful. I don't like that. Comments
I kept it short, and I hardly did anything. My wrist was aching, but that was ok because, heck, it's leg day! Last time I did decent squats I had that giant 7+ foot nordic guy spotting me (that was hot). Since then there's something in my left hip area causing a sharp pain. I feel it every time I put on pants and do simple stuff like that, it's fairly pervasive. I felt it on the very first set of squats but decided to work through it, so I did some more. Stopped just above parallel every time because at parallel was when it hurt most. Ugh. This is soooo not the time to be falling apart- summer's coming, my vacation is approaching. ****.

The shoulder press machine I'd never done before at Gold's so it was strange to find myself lifting most of the stack. Who is that machime made for, anyway? *My Gold's seems to be configured to be anti-T-Bar. There isn't a single normal corner on the entire free weight floor where I can place the butt end of the bar. I ended up placing it between the leg of the DB rack and the wall it's next to. Put a 110lb BD on it, and it worked semi-well (the DB placement was awkward against the 150lb DBs it was next to). Overall I was pleased with the workout despite it being light. Wrists didn't bother me much and I didn't even wrap them (couldn't find the damn wraps), shoulders behaved for the most part, and the music was good.

Squats- 95x5, 115x5, 115x5, 145x5, 155x5
Leg Press (plates/side)- 2x10, 3x10, 4x8
Leg Curls (cable)- 70x14, 80x12, 80x8
Bicep Curls (DB)- 25x10:10 (oops... forgot it's a 5x5 requirement), 30x5:5, 35x5:5, 40x5:5

This workout got a solid meh. I have to figure out a way to warm up my legs better- I keep getting a pinch by the pelvic bone on squats and presses but it goes away as I keep moving with sets and increase weight. Not sure what that means other than that it's a warm up issue. Wrist was OK through the curls. I didn't push it much and stayed light on the weight and didn't do hammer curls.

Dropped off my car for service (the clock keeps losing time). Got a Tribute for a loaner. :( Not fierce.

Upper Body

Warm up 6 mins
Chins- BW-40x5, BWx5, BWx3, BWx3, BW-20x5, BW-20x5
Hammer High Rows (silly cable)- 100x10, 130x10, 150x10... too light
Bent Over Laterals (DB)- 25x10:10, 30x10:10, 35x8:8
Seated Shoulder Press Machine (plates)- 45x5:5, 55x5:5, 65x3:3, 65x3:3, 60x3:3
Standing Lateral Raise (DB)- 20x5:5... wrist not ready for that.
Leg Press Calves (pps/side, one leg at a time)- 2ppsx10:10, 2.5ppsx10:10, 3ppsx8:8
Weighted Abs- 3 sets.

This workout was good, though a bit rushed. I got held up at work and didn't want to linger at the gym too long. Everything was OK until I got to laterals- my left wrist started aching even with 20lb DBs. :( I avoided free weight presses to avoid balancing the weight. Oh well. Overall it was a pretty decent workout. Junior's remix of Tantra is fantastic. (iTunes has it)

McIrish- you're right, man. I could do more, I'm just having a KevinStarke period where I seem to have random aches and pains that just won't let me be.

Warm up- 10 mins
RDLs- 95x5, 135x5, 185x5, 225x5, 235x1(PR), 225x3
GMs- 85x6, 95x8, 115x6
Leg Extensions (plates, single leg)- 25x8:8, 30x10:10, 35x11:11
Skulls- (EZ-curl bar)- 45x8..... not ready for that yet
Cable Kickbacks (shutup)- 20x10:10, 30x10:10, 40x8:8
Rope Pull Down- I forget.... nothing too heavy.

Great workout overall. A buddy is visiting from Miami and is staying in the area so I took him with me to the gym today. We had a very effective workout. I couldn't do the skulls without ****ing up my wrist again so I quit those early. My bud showed me the cable kickbacks with a supinated grip, and while I'd never do them otherwise, they didn't bother my wrist and I finally was able to do a tricep movement. Thank gawd!

Hammer Curls(DB)- 35x6:6, 45x5:5
Rope Pressdowns (cable)- blah blah, I went relatively heavy

OMG Praise Naproxen! My Miami buddy told me to take it for my wrist to reduce inflamation and I did. It worked! My wrist didn't bother me at all on the bench (I did one set of incline DB presses with 45s and that was a bit iffy so I stopped), but on fixed grip movements it was awesome. :) I'm so thrilled. I am almost ready for the dancefloor (have to groom still).

Another good workout. I probably could have eeked out another rep on the last set of squats but I chickened out, broke form, and let it go at that. I didn't have a spotter. Will do better next time.

Hammer High Row- 120x8, 150x10, 150x7

Overhead Press Machine(plates)- 35x5:5, 50x5:5, 60x3:3
Calves- seated
Abs

Today was very mediocre. Quit early on the chins and the shoulder presses. Right forearm decided to bug me- it got overstressed during flat bench on Friday. Still giving me ****. Better pressing next time. I'm super embarrassed about my chins, though- I don't weigh enough to be struggling as much as I do with them. Practice makes perfect.

Somewhat rushed but good workout today. Didn't rest as long as usual between sets trying to squeeze a 90 min workout into 70 mins. Skipped abs today to make it happen. On the rack pulls tried to go up 20lbs but failed- grip strength wasn't there. Tried it again, same thing. :( Hadn't done a standing calf raise in years... weird sensation in my lower back.

Warm up- 7 mins

Leg Press- 2ppsx10, 3.5ppsx8, 4ppsx7
Leg Curl(plates)- 25x10, 45x10, 55x4, 45x3

Hammer Curls (cable)- don't remember, 3 sets of them
Prayer Crunches- 3 sets

Good workout today considering insufficient sleep (7 hours). Diana is visiting with me this weekend so we went over to Gold's, incidentally she wore deep red sweats and a pink tee, and I wore deep blue sweats and light blue tee. We looked such a couple... except we kept checking out exactly the same people. I didn't ask for a spot on the squats and I wish I had- would have done better. D squatted the bar, leg pressed up to 65/side, and leg curled 30lbs. Good work on her part. She also did very decent bis. I was in a great mood at the gym and got into my zone quickly. :dj: was great.

Warm up- 6 mins
Chins- BWx5, x5, x4, x4
High Row (cable)- 110x8, 130x8, 150x7
Bent Over Laterals (DB)- 25x9:9, 30x8:8, 30x8:8
Seated DB Press- 35x6:6, 45x5:5, 55x5:5, 60x6:6, 65x3:3
Standing DB Laterals- 20x8:8, 25x7:7, 25x6:6

Interesting workout. I went into it tired- some ****s on my street decided to take their party outside at 1:30AM, waking me up and not letting me get back to sleep until some ungodly hour... UGH!!! I was ready to pull a movie moment and walk out there in shorts and flip-flops and ask them to STFU. I didn't, tho. My chins suffered, my mind set just wasn't there. The high rows felt awkward. Bent over laterals were ok but not great. The DB press is where I surprised myself- I actually put up good numbers (for me). I guess it took me a while to get into my workout. The zone was slow in coming. I skipped out on abs and calves to get home earlier and get some sleep. I fully intend on following through.

DumbellDude- Thanks man! I felt good about those.

Today's workout is getting cancelled.

Got rearended on my way to work. Nothing major- I was stopped at a light and an SUV was stopped behind me. The SUV got hit pretty hard by a car and was pushed enough to reconfigure my rear bumper a bit. I was flung forward pretty hard, and my head hit the headrest at least a couple of times, though. Neck is a bit stiff now so I'm skipping out tonight (DLs and GMs will have to wait) to see how I feel tomorrow. Will prolly see a doc just to make sure I'm ok. What can a doc do, anyway, if it's just whiplash? How is it diagnosed?

The lady in the SUV was fine, her car got only minor scratches and dents. The girl in the offending Scion tC was badly shaken (no airbag deployment). She was better by the time her car was flatbeded. :(

And one of my coworker's fiance hit a deer on his way to work.

Yup. I'm not really all the shoephisticated. besides. they match the truck.

Should you find yourself in NYC I will buy you a beer and I will wear those god awful yellow sneakers just for you. Deal?If you're wearing those shoes, you better be buying me a lot more than one.

Teufy's one pair of boots IS all he needs, besides the sneakers for short/gym days and some thongs. It suits.

Upper Body Vertical Push/Pull, Calves, Abs

Warm up- 10 mins
Chins(assisted)- BW-80x10, BW-70x10, BW-50x10, BW-40x10, BW-30x5
High Rows- 70x3.... not ready for those yet
Bent Over Laterals(DB)- 20x10:10, 25x8:8, 30x8:8
Seated DB Press- 40x5:5, 50x5:5, 60x5:5, 65x5:5
Standing Laterals(DB)- 20x8:8, 25x4:4+ 20x4:4, 20x10:10
Seated Calves (plates)- 3 sets of heavy....
Abs

Today's workout ROCKED. Diana joined me, I pushed her, she pushed me. It was great. Got new (old) music on my iPod and it carried me through. :dj: The high rows didn't feel good so I left them alone. I know I said I would avoid doing back today but I wanted to warm up my shoulders so I did assisted chins and they were actually ok. I did well with shoulders- don't remember the last time I put up 65x5. It wasn't too bad, either. I'll aim higher next time.

Pride Walk

Well, not really. I did go to the gym, though, with the sole purpose of treadmilling. This is a first, IIRC. I walked inclines between 6%-12% at the average speed of 3.7mph for 25 mins (including cool down). I didn't lift any weights. I burned 283 cals while on the machine. I did watch TV. I did check out really hot people. I only did it because Pride is in the air and the jeans I bought for this weekend aren't framing me very nicely and I figured that the walk would make me feel better.

You mean third row yellow and black? Those are a bit much, even for me (definitely not for everyday use), but with a pair of good jeans and a black t-shirt they rock.

Dude, I only have ten pairs of shoes....

2- Do you want 26 pairs of shoes? (btw, that # is now up to 27).

Well, now I stick my glasses on and have a better look at your shoes... I have about the same, boots, thongs, work boots, you've got me in the casual and I have a few less dress shoes.

I'd love to have more shoes, like I'd love to have more hats.

"Yes."
"You can never have enough hats, gloves, and shoes."

Upper Body Horizontal Push/Pull, Calves, Abs

Warm up- 10 mins elliptical
Rack Pulls- 95x10, 135x6, 185x5, 225x5, 225x5
T-bar Rows (on bar)- 45x10, 90x8, 115x8
Flat BB Bench Press- 115x5, 155x5, 185x5, 195x5, 200x4(PR!)
Incline DB Bench Press- 50x10:10, 65x8:8, 70x8:8
Calves- stuff.
Abs- rope crunches. Heavy. Too heavy on the last set.

Today was nice. Very nice. My lifting buddy and Diana were both at the gym with me. I took it easy on back stuff (my lower back feels weird since the accident, just lightly sore). Chest was nice, though. Did 200 for the first time, the last rep I had help. DBs felt good also following flat bench. I probably could have pushed 75s just the same. Next time I will! :)

Thank you Jeff and Casey! Muchas grassy ass!!!!!!!!! It's been long time coming, and finally it's here. I would like to thank the Academy for granting me the strength, and the hot muscle at my gym for inspiring me to not embarrass myself. I would also like to thank my family for their almost unwavering support unless I start getting chunky, and my friends and training partners because without them I would still be looking crosseyed at a bar loaded with 25s. Thank you all!!!!

Today was a cool workout. Diana was there, as well as my gym bud. We lifted pretty well, though I don't think that I set any PRs. My grip strength stopped me short on the rack pulls. I went to the pro shop to see if they had rubber palm pads but they had none. I'll pick some up elsewhere and try again next week.

The weekend was FUN! As some of you know it was the closing weekend of Gay Pride Week in NYC and as tradition holds there was a parade (I didn't see it) and there were amazing parties (I went to one at Crobar). Went with Diana, got there at 1AM, left at 10AM (she left at 6AM). The crowd was HOT- only the hot gay boys were there and the straight crowd (which dominated) was extremely good looking also. I had girls flirting with me, I had a string of hot guys after me... it was a great night. The music was fantastic- Victor Calderone did a wonderful job. It wasn't as crazy as some of my previous Prides which involved bf's passing out, candle-stick holders flying into people's faces, crazy hookups... It was just mild, nice, and thoroughly enjoyable. I hope all those here who celebrate Pride directly or just with their friends/families had a great time.
