Hi, I'm sure this has been asked a million times, but I don't have time to research this at the moment, or to really do anything anymore lol. So I was wondering if someone could tell me the benifits of eating the egg whites alone and the cons? Are there any cons? Does it take any of the protein away? Any help will appreciated, thank you very much!

There's more nutrients in the entire egg, but egg whites should be fine. It's a personal preference. There's more cholesterol in the yolks, I believe.

most of the egg fat is at the yolk (and the cholesterol as scarz said), while the egg white consists mainly of protein (lecithin). of course you need cholesterol in your diet, so i use 4-5 servings of egg beaters (or any other brand) from a carton and 1 egg

I dont think you actually need to eat cholesterol... Unless you dont have a liver....

So if I eat 3-6 entire eggs daily, would I be okay?

i would stick to 4-5 egg whites, with 1 whole egg.

yeh i was wtahcing something the other day that used a 4 egg white to one hole egg ratio but its personal preference more than anything unless you plan on eating loads of them everyday its not going to be to much of a problem

Okay, I always heard that the yolk does contain the cholesterol just how u guys r saying. But I just looked now and it has 240mg per egg of it, O_O...so, if I eat 3 egg whites a day, or 6 a day, does anyone know how much protein I would get from just the egg whites? OR what else I would lose? Says 7g per egg of protein, sorry for all the questions,a nd thanks for all the help!

i think their is about 4/5 g of protein per egg white depending on the size of the egg etc

would I lose all the cholesteral if I jus have the whites?

ddegroff

yes, you would, i think its generally excepted that you get half the protein from whites. The fat, cholesterol and some protein is in the yolk.

Oh okay, so I lose most of the fat in I take out the yolk? So its pretty much all protein in the whites? I can eat like 20 a day and not start to gain weight?

well if those 20egg whites put you above your caloric goals you'll gain weight. But in general egg whites are an awesome low cal food and perfect protein.

okay thats great, thanks alot! just one more question, any idea how many calls r in one egg white? If the whole egg has 80 cals

ddegroff

i believe its 90cals in an egg. I just divide it in half, I also track on fitday.com and it has "egg whites" already figured out.

Hubby eats 5-7 whole eggs daily, and he's almost forty. Not dead yet ... don't lose too much sleep over dietary cholesterol. If the yolks fit your calories, go ahead and eat 'em.

Agreed.

I eat 6 whole eggs everyday. I used to eat 10 egg whites but I think the 6 whole eggs are much better. They make meals taste so much better then if you used plain egg whites. They have alot of essential vitamins and if you dump the yolk your only getting half the protein you would if you'd just eat the whole thing!

You can eat two whole eggs a day without it impacting your cholesteral. I used to worry about this and limit myself to that many but hell; people smoke for years on end and some of them dont even get cancer!

IMO the benifits far outweigh any risks or concerns with your health.

Plus dumping the yolk is such a waste of good protein. Next time you throw them away save them and send them to me via e-mail :P

I'd rather get cholesteral from eggs then eat all the fried foods/butter and other unhealthy things the majority of americans eat.

Really dont worry about it. Your young or I'm assuming your young (and by that I mean any age under 30) so your body can handle it.

Butter is good for you too, Jordan. It's a natural, healthy saturated fat.
