Welcome to my first picture thread. This is quite humbling. Included are a pic from a year ago and several pics from today. I weigh in today at a portly, for me, 198lbs. I'm 27, 6'2.8". I'm at the top of my bulk and am considering a mini cut, not because I have a problem with my size but because my clothes do. Comments, criticism (preferrably constructive), are very welcome.

This is me in June of '05:

Any guesses about my bf%? I tend to store fat mainly in my midsection.

Muchas gracias.

Geez I never know with the fellas. You ONLY have it there, can't be higher than 20%. Vein down your bicep, too.

???

You've got excellent symmetry, NICE legs! Sweet bis, tris, great pec genetics.

I'm looking forward to seeing you cut this summer! You're gonna be SMOKIN' hot!

TwiloMike

OMG thank you MuscleLady! You are way kind to me. <3

The pics don't show it but I actually have pretty awful symmetry (20 degree scoliosis curve). My back is all out of whack and my right pec seems to be missing it's upper/outer portion. That's just the stuff that I obsess about.

Thank you for the leg comment- they are my pride currently, best growth out of any other bodypart. :)

You're about 18%. From 18% is where the fun part starts cause you wake up in the morning and you notice new cuts here and there every day.

Looking good overall!

Nice bulk, excellent progress. Choice is yours of course but I'd say you have room to continue your bulk unless you really don't feel like shopping for bigger clothes. Good luck.

Sidior
04-23-2006, 09:42 PM
I would also give an 18% or so, maybe a tad higher in the mid section and a tad lower in the legs...looking great man, after a cut you will be quite impressive. If anything needs work I would say traps.

Clifford Gillmore
04-24-2006, 05:56 AM
Nice looking legs man! Thick arms in the side on pic make you torso look great, very good changes in the amount of time. You'll look fantastic after you cut down a few percent, hopefully the torso fat will reduce quickly :)

TwiloMike
04-24-2006, 06:39 AM
MeHoW- That's what I'm hoping for.

FighterInSnatch- Muchas gracias.

mrelwooddowd- I wouldn't expect you to mean it in any other way. ;) Thanks!

Nosaj- Heh, thanks man. I can't afford a new wardrobe right now and I have sooo much summer clothing that I would love to use that it'd be a sin for me to buy more stuff.

Sidior- Thanks, I also think that traps need more work. I will add a few sets of shrugs to my routine.

Risk10k- Thank you! ;) The torso fat will be stubborn, if history is any indicator. My legs have certainly come up the most. I can't wait to see what they will look like after a cut, though the cut won't be too deep. I just want to fit my old clothing, not go all out a-la Built. A couple of inches loss in my waist is all I want.

Looking good mike. Legs look well balanced with upper body. I'd say your midsection problem isn't as much of a problem as you think. I think the problem is that you need to develop better balance between your lateral obliques and chest/back. Especially your back. If you can widen your back a bit it should make that waist look smaller and balance out slightly overdeveloped lateral obliques. The reason I say that is because in the first pic you can see how much they stand out. Best of luck on your goals for the summer cut.

TwiloMike

ectx- working on it. :) I'm hitting back heavily to compensate for my child-bearing hips. Chest is probably my slowest growing muscle group. :(

Bench? Squat? etc etc...
Errr.... I don't lift for max, so I've no idea about that.

My latest PRs are:

Squat- 185x? don't remember...
Bench- 195x4
SLDL- 225x6

d'Anconia
04-24-2006, 10:41 PM
Looking good, especially since you haven't been lifting for much more than a year. Your arms and legs are looking very large and it seems like most of your bodyfat is in your midsection area... I'm the same way.

I'd guess at your bodyfat % but my ability to estimate got turned upside-down this week when I did a hydrostatic comp. lab of myself and ended up with what I thought couldn't be true (bleh, I'll include it in my next picture thread, soon to come).

Keep up the work, you able to give us estimates on how much you started off being able to lift?

TwiloMike
04-25-2006, 04:44 AM
Hmmm....when I started off I wasn't doing deads or squats, my bench pretty much maxed out somewhere around 155 with a BB and 60s with DB. On the leg press I was moving 4.5 plates per side maximum.... that's a rough estimate of where I was.

Relentless
04-25-2006, 07:47 AM
I will agree with Rene that you look sharp and that putting more work into your chest/back will improve the appearance of your torso overall. You've clearly made progress, and just need to keep pluggin' away.

If you're not doing it already, hit your chest (or whatever else you've decided is your weakest part) FIRST each week in your workout schedule. Attack the weak/lagging bodypart with the most intensity you can muster. Then it won' grow as slowly. :)

rookiebldr
04-25-2006, 09:14 AM
Excellent work Mike. I totally agree with built on great chest genetics. As you work it more it will develop deeper and wider. Even the lats are peeking out in one of those front pics. Arms are improving well and legs look big strong. Keep at it, you're a work in progress as you improve so will those delts giving you even a much wider look.

Narcissus
04-25-2006, 10:03 AM
i'm going to agree with most other people that your chest and legs stand out as your stronger muscle groups (you're starting off bench max is 60lbs greater than mine was lol). if i were to point at the muscles i think you should pay the most attention to - delts, back, traps. although you have no back pictures posted, i'd assume the development is on par with the rest of your body? large delts, well-developed back, and bulging traps are a hallmark of the best physiques, in my opinion. progress looks great though, i am sure you'll continue to make great improvements.

TwiloMike
04-25-2006, 10:41 AM
Callahan- That is the plan, yes. I'm going to start BGB one of these days and chest/delts will have priority. In the last few months I focused on legs more than anything else because, frankly, they were embarrassing.

rookiebldr- Thank you, HMD.

Narcissus- Thanks man! I just recently figured out how to bench without injuring my delts so delt progress is soon coming. :) My back is fairly strong (compared to the rest of me) but I will need someone to help me take a proper pic of it. I will post it once I have it.

Muchas gracias. I dunno what makes me look large- perhaps the lighting? Angle? I dunno. I know I've progressed quite a bit. Would be great if you did, cuz our physiques look similar(in my opinion anyway) cept ur taller i think.

Keep up the good work.

TwiloMike
09-06-2006, 07:58 PM
Thanks Con. I'm not keeping track of bf% because I don't trust my scale (electronic) and I don't own calipers and frankly, I don't care. ;) I know one thing- the jeans I had to breathe in to close at the start of summer are now loose enough that I need a belt to keep them from sliding uncomfortably low. That, to me, is progress. When I flex my abs I see a deep vertical cut, and that is big progress from the beginning of summer. My love handles and the lower tummy are way smaller, and that's progress. This afternoon I weighed in at 191.2 or something like that. In early June I was 203.

I will continue this slight cut through the end of the month and then will begin a fairly clean bulk: I'll add a small meal here, and a protein shake there, and that should be about it. I will only expand as far as my current "Fat" wardrobe will allow. I refuse to buy more clothes... I've spent waaaaay too much since last winter on new wear.

Looking good man...

What was your diet like during your cut? How did your workout change?

8
Durrr.. how did I forget to list all that?

Diet was 6-7 meals per day, at least 2 of which were Nitrean. Oats, brown rice, chicken, lean beef, chicken/hummus/lettuce/whole-wheat-tortilla wraps, and that was about it. I dropped 13-14 pounds. Went from just barely fitting into size 34 jeans to 33s being waaaay loose on me, and 32s are not just right. I was 203 in June, I'm 189-190 now.

My workout didn't change much. I was already on BGB before the cut, I stayed with it and focused more on strength work.

To answer HahnB, I will now ease into a clean bulk and ride it out until late spring again, most likely. October will be the transition month.

Looks like you lost bf without any loss in muscle mass. Great job.

What was your goal at the beginning of your cut?

TwiloMike
10-01-2006, 07:23 PM
Tofer- Thanks! I have no specific expectations. Whatever comes I will have. I will make my best effort, though. :) My limit is already set by my winter clothes- I can't afford a new wardrobe.

Beast- Gracias! I also noticed that muscle loss has been minimal. Strength loss hasn't been big either, which I'm happy about. I attribute that to the cut being very gradual. Also, Built's routine seems to have held up to the cut very well. My goal was to come down to 190 and see what I look like then. Ideally I wouldn't even have cut this summer and just continued bulking but that would have required a new wardrobe by winter. I cut to allow enough slack to accomodate the upcoming bulk, if that makes any sense. I am planning a clean bulk now.

I was wondering because you could take the cut further if you wanted to. Do you have a specific look you are going for?
The look I ideally want I've seen in the street... I don't have a picture of it offhand... oddly enough. I am thinking that if I can make it to 210-220 at my current fat amound I will probably have reached my look. I can't get anywhere near as lean as you because my face will get sucked in in the most unattractive way.

I'm about 208 now. I'm not that lean, though.... there's a decent layer ot fat around my midsection (tire).

Not sure of many measurements. I'm usually afraid to take them... lol. I'm at 208 now, I'm almost 6'3, my arms are 16" right now. Just measured my thigs- 25.5", chest/lats just came out to 46" (flexed). I'm not about to measure my waist, though... lol.

NEW PICS! (Maintaining through injuries of various sorts, and cutting at the moment). In any case, I pic whored today and figure I will share.

What do you think is my body fat %? I had my body fat tested at the gym today and I don't believe their little machine for a second. Let me have your estimates, please.

I'm terrible at judging bodyfat so I won't even bother...

WTF is up with your back though!? Obviously the pic says scoliosis but that looks like some pretty crazy muscle imbalances because of it. Can you squat and all that fun stuff even with the scoliosis?

Can you squat and all that fun stuff even with the scoliosis?Yeah, the scoliosis is pretty pronounced. I'm working with a chiro on it. I can squat and stuff, but we'll see how much or how well from this point forward: I used to squat, deadlift, etc. and then my lower back decided to start crying... so now I'm off all those fun movements while the chiro does his thing. It's definitely asymmetrical... fun stuff.

My eyes! The goggles, they do nothing!

In all seriousness, looking pretty good. You look strangely saggy in the first pic, but I think it's the lighting, in the 2nd pic I'd guess 13-16%. I don't believe the little handheld gym things either, I supposedly have 17% BF and there's no way I'm even that thin, unfortunately.
