Being a lazy-ass college student with no blender, protein bars seem ideal.

Unfortunately, the ingredients list reads like a chem-lab stock list. (Sugar alcohols? WTF are those?)

Are protein bars considered an acceptable substitute for protein shakes, or are they just not worth it? (they aren't cheap, either...)

The cost alone (esp in the UK) is rediculous enough for me not to buy them. Works out a lot cheaper to have a protein drink.

Sugar alcohols, sometimes called polyols, are a class of carbohydrates that are more slowly or incompletely absorbed by the human digestive system than sugars. Common sugar alcohols include sorbitol, mannitol, maltitol, and xylitol. Sugar alcohols contribute less Calories to the diet than most other types of carbohydrates, but may cause digestive discomfort.

I'm totally against protein bars, i wouldn't rely on them as your protein source, look at them as a candy bar really, and yes, they are pricey

As in what the likes of 'Smint' contain of, known to cause laxative effects.

Protein bars are nice once in a while, like if you need to get something in you before a workout and you're unable to make a protein shake. But yes, they are more pricy. You are going to pay anywhere from $1.50 - $3.00 for a protein bar, while a protein powder will cost about $0.50 - $0.60 per serving.

Besides, you actually don't need a blender to make a shake...a container with a screw-on lid works fine for me.

Commercial protein bars should not be eaten daily.

Clean bars are very easy to make.

I have had very good luck with these so far, no laxative effects, very sufficient amounts of calories, protein, and carbs. All natural stuff, definitely worth a shot.
Also requires 0 skill in the kitchen to make them, my favorite part ;)
