do you restict access to the router only to certain ethernet addresses (these are unique for each card)? if so you need to add the ethernet address of the computer not working to your router. also test that your ethernet card works, by connecting this computer directly to the cable/dsl modem.

the ethernet card isnt the problem, i just unhooked the computer from school and it worked fine there
how do i check if i restricted access to the router?

the router software can be accessed through the internet. usually the address is http://192.168.0.1/ then it should ask you for a username and password (if you ever set/reset these). check with the router manual for the username/password if you never set one. once you loggin there should be an option of restricting access to certain ethernet addresses.
Does, by any chance, the computer runs any authentication software for connecting to the school network? i had a similar problem with Aegis Client - it was only configured for the network at work and had to add my home network. Is that a wireless connection (although Aegis can authenticate wired connections as well).

now i cant even plug my second computer directly into the internet, it wont acquire a network address or something, and wont work at all
i checked the setting and its set up to automatically get IP addresses and network addesses, so what the hell? why wont my computer work?
