What's the single most enjoyable memory you have from the gym? Sentimental, life changing, funny or otherwise!

For me, it was lifting 200lbs on a bench for the first time… call it a small feat but it was a golden day for me!

Most enjoyable? Finally getting out of a year long extortionate contract with an old gym.

I was doing some deadlifts, and one guy said softly to his pretty big friend "you think you're stronger than him?" The guy was a curl jockey and prob thought DL's were some weird exercise.

When I showed up my co-worker and stepdad when they said I could'nt get 350lbs on flat bench. I ended up hitting 365 and the look on their faces was priceless.

The day I saw a man teaching this really fine chick to do squats she had THE most perfect ass i've ever seen and all the other guys agreed you had a crowd of about 15 of us just watching. And the guy came back he was working in on the DLs with me and I remember this quote cause it just cracked me up "You lucky batard you got the best view back here"

First day I walked into Olympic.

I had been searching for a new gym for a few weeks. Every gym I walked into, I was greeted by some benign-looking eunuch or “Cindi with an I” who immediately tried to direct me toward the cardio machines and pilates classes, asked me what my fitness goals were, tried to test me using a BIA device and looked confused when I wanted to use a power rack rather than an elliptical trainer: “Why? Don’t you want to lose weight???”

I walk into Olympic to ask about a trial workout. The manager greeted me, then briefly gestured around the facility to show me where the class schedule and ladies’ only areas were.

I asked him where the power cage was.

He looked me up and down, paused for about a second, gestured toward the power cage, and said, “Have a good workout”.

I walked over to the power cage for rack pulls at knee height.

I loaded a plate a side for my warmup sets.

It was a weird feeling – my other gym was used to me, but I had outgrown it. This was the first time I had walked into a gym all by myself where I didn’t know anybody and they didn’t know me, and I was getting ready for a heavy back workout. And I was being watched.

I loaded another plate a side for my work sets, now KEENLY aware that I was being watched.

My pulls FLEW up. I felt like I was taking strength from my audience. It was a pretty cool feeling.

I joined the next day. :D

Thursday, May 11: Cleans, did 2 sets at 135 no prob, went to 145 and was dead tired. I got 1, missed the next 2. My lifting partners weren't going to let me put it down. Got psyched up, did 2-3 more, missed the next. Still wouldn't let me drop the weight. Failed 2 or 3 more times. Just thought, as Ronnie says, "Nothin' to it but to do it." There were nothing but frat guys around and crap music playing way to loud, so I just zoned it all out and bombarded myself with images of explosive athletes (sprinters, football players, etc). I focused and put two more up then let the weight drop finally. I felt like I was coming down off of a huge adrenaline rush as I undid the straps... hands shaking, dizzy.. it was the greatest feeling. :D

I won't do that every week, but it sure felt great to push myself beyond my boundaries. I was so dead the next day.. heh.

it was in the changing room actually...

i was taking off my shirt, and i said "this shirt must have shrunk"

a guy I know says "you're just getting bigger"

it just kind of hit me in that moment that i had become bigger and was starting to move good weight around (compared to where i started)

its a 3 way tie

the first time i ever squatted 600 plus pounds

the first time i deadlifted 600 plus pounds

the first time i benched pressed over 400 pounds

which will be superceeded by the days when i squat and deadlift 700 and bench 500

Deadlifting 2pps for the first time... After I did my first set, I was so freaking stoked. At the time, there was a pretty big powerlifter repping 4pps and he said "Hey, nice numbers, bro... want to borrow my chalk?" I felt like I was just inducted into some weird, secret weightlifting society just by doing an exercise that the other 99% of curljockeys at the gym scoff at because it doesn't build either pecs or biceps. I hoisted up the next set with no problem.

I was pretty happy the first time I benched a plate a side for reps. My best memory was getting a good look at a gorgeous girls well uh needless to say she was doing some leg spreading exercises on the mats and decided to wear loose shorts while going commando, credit for spotting it out goes to my training partner lol. Unexpected nudity is always the best kind.

This is a tough one. It was probably the first time i nailed a 300lb deadlift. I was so pumped for that workout. I knew i was going to nail it. I loaded up the bar with my whole weight set. Mudvayne was blasting. I got it up and just held it up for a good 10 seconds of glory. Those 10 seconds were probably the best 10 seconds of my lifting career so far. Haha.

Lifting with my two friends in my basement, the one was my best friend who I always lift and the 3rd was my friend Zack who is into all the 5Tetra, NO-Xplode and the hype. He was about 190lbs and i was 165 and I managed to set a PR of 205x3 and he couldnt do 200+ for one. I just felt like asking "wheres your insane pump at??":ninja:

Ive been working out for about six months,my best time yet was when i just was with my partner, and it was really hot out. So we Worked out in our Gym (Better known as "THE PIT") Well we ended up having the crazyiest day of legs, got up too 8 reps of 250. and started at 100 pounds,i never squated so many times in my life,we worked out for a good 3,3 and a half hours. But that was just the begining,we also did leg extentions,Calf Raises, and some Hamstring work outs,we were really fealing it that day,and we continued to compete with each other, and set out for little goals. It all turned out real well, and we finished off the day by tanning for a while. It went well :)

I remember about 4 years ago when I was really new to lifting and working out at a very small community gym, I saw a guy, probably in his early 20s, doing dumbbell military press with 50 pound dumbbells (that was the heaviest dumbbell in the gym). I remember thinking how jacked the guy looked, while I was on the other side of the room doing the same exercise with measly 25s. I never thought I'd see the day when I would be able to get the 50s up. I remember the day I finally was able to complete 3 good sets with 50s and it felt amazing, I love thinking back to that day when I was doing 25s.

Another good memory was about a month ago. I was doing weighted dips with a 45 plate and a guy was standing by me waiting to ask if he can work in. He didnt notice the plate until I finished my set and when he finally realized I had the weight there he said "DAMN you were doing that with that plate there???" The expression on his face was priceless.

Deadlifting 405 for reps, then later deadlifting 450 for reps. I usually get at least a few onlookers every time I do deads now. Granted I train at a college gym where half the people there probably don't even do deadlifts, but still...

Getting asked workout advice questions by people in the gym I have never met before.

Another one that didn't actually happen in the gym was as follows:

I am currently a TA and teach discussion sections every week. During the middle of the semester, the students fill out anonymous free response forms to critique the discussion section. When I read my comments last semester, many of them had nothing to do with teaching but were instead comments on how big I was, or guesses as to how much I could lift. I was quite surprised to read these since I really don't consider myself to be that big. I guess it doesn't take much to be noticeable to the average person or something.

Shoulder pressing 60 lb dumbbells, first time I ever moved anything above 50 lbs. I was nervous about getting them up. This girl had tagged along with us (one of our friends) and she was laughing at us lifting, and I picked up the 60's and she goes, "Oh you're gonna show off cause I'm here?".. kinda motivated me, I just said 'Damn right' and repped out my set, it was a good feeling.

3 years ago I couldn't even pull-up my own bodyweight or bench 100lbs. Now I'm one of the stronger guys in the gym and I get people asking me what supps I take, my diet and some of the bigger guys walk across the gym to ask me for a spot. This one huge dude (6'6" at least 275lbs) is a Marine who's usually in the gym at the same time as me everyday and I compare my progress to how close I am to getting to his numbers or on the occasion, beating him in a certain exercise :)

When I deadlifted 300 lbs @ 150 lb bodyweight.

Someone mumbling "that's impressive" and pointing my way when I was squatting. It was only 225 :(

Looking at the results of the strength results from the varisty rugby team and realising I am a lot stronger than a lot of them. (I don't play rugby, but those guy are BIG)
