Why would you have to go to china to train that hard? Just do it where your at.

Why would you have to go to china to train that hard? Just do it where your at.

It was more of an exaggeration, leading to imply that I highly value their discipline, training methods and work ethic. That to find a functional facility of such excellence would seemingly be worth emigrating to that specific facility in China.

Of course, this is ignoring the fact that I cannot speak whichever dialect is used there, I am not chinese, I am not acceptable to represent China under their government and that I would not even be accepted to train there as I am not nearly so advanced.

I didn't say I would need to go to China to train that hard. In addition, if you are willing to let me know where I can find a facility of that calibre locally, I would be impressed.

Some things aren't meant to be taken literally.

How would they have achieved their physique? Do they "just" train for strength and have a good (ok, amazing) diet to go with it?

I want to know what they do!

They train hard and often. That's it. It's their job, and I wouldn't be surprised if many of them trained 5+ hours a day.

Wouldn't that lead to overtraining?

In you, me, or anybody on this forum, yeah. Whether it's the lack of any other commitments, the drugs or whatever else, such frequent training has been very successful for high level Olympic lifters. Glen Pendlay has often mentioned how his lifters will train 2-3 times a day almost everyday, and even a deloading period may involve twice a day workouts. Of course, this only works in high level athletes who have built up a tolerance to such a workload.

RedSpikeyThing

I guess I would consider that proof that the Waterbury (http://www.t-nation.com/findArticle.do?article=06-017-training) training system works. Or at least high frequency in general can work.

Rex
05-31-2006, 04:50 PM
What Oly lifters do is alot different than what Waterbury talks about. The thing about these lifters, world class competitors and members of their respective national teams, are
1. access to drugs, lots of them with properly supervised intake
2. insane genetics. For every guy (or gal) you see, there are another 99 that broke down along the way
3. ten or more years of training in order to build up to that kind of volume. And again, see point 2. 99% of those kids will and do break under the loads demanded.

Also, oly lifts are good cardio, for lack of a better term. The Snatch and C&J are considered sporting events! Huge range of motion on these lifts, the so called "fast lifts".

I thought most competitions were clean. Not true?

Rex
05-31-2006, 09:57 PM
The competitors are definitely tested for banned performance enhancing agents.

Some get caught, most do not. Weightlifting (as in the Olympic sport) is much different in Europe than in America. Alot of talent, money and government support is thrown at weightlifting. That includes supervised drug use, no doubt.

Throughout all sports at the highest levels the use of performance enhancers is high.

Uuugghh.... If every thread that shows or mentions an elite olympic or power lifter turns into a discussion about whether they use anabolics or not, or whether equipment should be banned or not, it's going to get old reeeeaal quick.

Naim
06-01-2006, 03:37 PM
I wouldn't attribute their success and level of physical fitness to anabolics. In eastern Europe and Asia, weightlifting is like working for the government. They select certain individuals and train them from very early ages for one objective: To improve their olympic lifts. If weightlifting was the only thing you'd done since the age of 7, you could pull off some amazing things too. But it would have to be a very dedicated life, not so much fun at all.

All bumper plates are the same size (the same size as a 45lb plate). For future reference:

green = 10kg
yellow = 15kg
Blue = 20kg
Red = 25kg

That looks to be 40kg (10 + 10 + 20kg bar), although there might be some smaller metal plates on the ends, you can't tell in the picture. There's always the possibility that he's using a women's bar (15kg) too. That's what we do with our youths after the first couple weeks.

That's one of the biggest factors. In communist China, they weed out all the kids, and what they're left with is the best of the best.

How many grams of protein do you figure these guys and girls have per day?
