Gaining weight is generally a disadvantage for jumping, unless the weight gained is in the jumping muscles.

N.b.: Home made weight gainer = food.

Jevon Kearse (Eagles Defensiveback) is 6' 4", weighs 265 pounds, and has a 40 inch vertical

Did you read the threads we linked to you above?

Mix is right. If you are just stuffing your face indiscriminately, your vertical is going to plummet in a hurry. He isn't saying that you don't need to gain some weight or even that it wouldn't be desirable for basketball, just that you have to be careful about weight gain if you are looking to increase your vert.

Geez, Sensei, it's obvious that one of the 10 most genetically gifted football players of all time is extremely relevant to a skinny kid playing basketball.

If you want to learn how to get big and get a huge vertical, go to a basketball forum. Very few of us can tell you how to get your vertical up, and most of us don't care. If you want to gain weight, eat big. A home made shake can be oatmeal, protein powder, peanut butter, milk and water in a blender, blended up really good and drank whole.

Your workout will be what matters. Who cares if you gain 30 lbs on your upper body - it wont help you jump. You need to find a basketball coach who can get you a workout that will work for you. Want to gain muscle? Eat a ton. You are an active teenager, so you will be able to do it too.

Be warned that getting big then learning to jump is foolish. Learn to jump as you get bigger. An elephant cant jump, but it can squat a ton.

2 cups skim milk (or whole milk if you dont mind the cholesterol and sat fat)
1 cup dry oats
1-2 tablespoons olive oil
2 scoops whey
2 tbl spoons natty peanut butter

should add up to 800-1000 cals

add more/different ingredients to create more cals
