Well, he's bigger than me but he's still my younger brother. He's 180 lbs, 13 years old and already bench 80's x 8 for sets.

Little ****heads gonna be a big dude.

That's pretty incredible. I'm pretty confident I couldn't have even BENCHED 80 lbs TOTAL at 13 years old.

Your bro doesn't look like a 13 year old at all. He's going to be pretty scary in 5 years. Hell, two years even.

that's large man, how are his other lifts? u think in a couple of years he'll be beating/challenging some of ur lifts?

that's pretty amazing for 13. i don't think i could've benched 80 total at that age either. he's got some potential for sure.

Your bro is a strong little snot. Let's get him enormous too.

KevinStarke
06-07-2006, 04:01 PM
I have him on a routine just build a nice base and gain a little weight right now. When the summer ends and he starts highschool i'll have him doing a full powerlifting routine to get ready for next year. He'll be a beast and alot stronger than me thats for sure.

He's strong, much stronger than some guys in college. I saw your rack lockouts 385, looked easy have you tried more?

06-07-2006, 06:52 PM
Wow, that's very impressive for 13! I remember at that age I max BB benched maybe something like 175... If he keeps it up he's gonna be one strong mofo!

KevinStarke
06-07-2006, 06:58 PM
Thanks guys im tryin to keep him on track but it shouldnt be problem he's catchin the lifting bug.

bill - yah i've done 405 x 3 no problem on the rack lockouts. I do em to make sure i can lockout big weight and get used to holding big weight in my hands.

hockey - yah he's gonna be a biiiig dude

cosmic - i'd like to have him benching 315 at some point during his freshman year in highschool or at most the summer after.

WBBIRL
06-07-2006, 07:38 PM
Well I know his weight now lol, didnt catch that. Height??

He's damn big for 13...

Stronger then I was at 13 and I was a 200+lb 13 year old lol.

Whats he flat press now??? I dont know if he could quite make it to 315 that quick... I take it he's just going into 8th grade now so that would be 1.5 years. But i dont know what he maxes right now so maybe

Either way hes strong

KevinStarke
06-07-2006, 07:45 PM
he's around 5'11". I havnt had him do flat bench yet but im very confident he's at 225 at least if not very close. He'll be going in to his freshman year in highschool and trust me i can have him benching 315 his freshman year or the summer after. It took him 3-4 weeks to go from lifting for fun and not pushing himself to doing 80's for reps. I did 225 when i was benching 70 lb dumbells for sets and i was 145 freakin lbs, pushing 200 lbs i dont think he's gonna have a problem.

Im still in shock. That kid is 7 years younger than I, just passing through (or just done with) puberty, and he is MASSIVE. scary. And awesome.

KevinStarke

Haha yah we all went through puberty real young, i started in the 5th grade and finished around freshman year in highschool.

The apple doesnt fall far from the tree ;) The two of you must really reak some havoc when you go out. Usually the older brother takes care of the younger one, but in this case...... :p lol Makes me wonder, what are your parents like? Same genetics?

I plan to have him competing in a year or so. My moms a little lady but my dads 6'1". He used to play soccer at UCONN and isnt huge or anything. As for ROM on DB Bench, i dont know about you guys but i dont usually arch very much if arch at all for dumbell bench.

DAmn! awesome dumbell benching there!!really good stuff! he does nearly as much as I do now, and im 16! gr8 stuff.
What does he mil press?!

KevinStarke
06-08-2006, 08:44 AM
Right now he only has access to a crappy YMCA weightroom but after the summers over he starts highschool and they have a great gym there with everything he'll need to powerlift. Right now i have him doing more basic stuff to build up a base and some stabalization. I know he works with 55's/60's for military presses for sets of 5-8. he can curl 35's, 40's no problem and hammer curl 55's. I have him doing light deads just getting him used to the form with weights under 200. He's worked up to 6 full range pullups which I think is real good for having pretty long arms and being 180 lbs at 13. I havnt been around him for a little while now though so i dont know most of his numbers, i'll keep everyone posted though and have him start a journal once get gets in to highschool.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=1mgabe2zGkI - Very old video, Summer or so ago? I weighed 148-152 during the tape and im 165 now. I'm going for 130 x 10 at sometime after my upcommin meets.

Now thats very very impressive Starke, but could you now imagine adding an extra 100lb to each those dumbbells and pressing them for 12 reps? lol. Like Ronnie coleman did. Your more than halfway there tho man. (well, i know that was last summer but i doubt your db press has got worse)

Well he just started working out man, im sure you werent doing crazy pullups when you first started out.

Probably not, but he probably wasn't benching the 80's for 8 reps either (considering he's yet to go that heavy at all...........)

Anyway, he's right. If your bro can bench the 80's for 8, he SHOULD have more pull strength to balance things out. Not an insult, just make sure he gets an equal amount of pull work so he doesn't end up with an injury down the road.

Overall, HUUUUUUUUGE potential man! The kid is going to be a beast!

MixmasterNash
06-09-2006, 08:00 AM
Point of fact:
I couldn't even bench the bar properly when I started. And anthony is right: I still can only bench pink dumbbells, and those only go up to 12lbs.

The kids is really strong, in any case. Teach him the quick lifts ASAP so he can learn the coordination.

KevinStarke
06-09-2006, 08:15 AM
Goodwinner - all I need to do now is double my bodyweight and take some steroids and i'd be set!

biggimp - Strong, all the guys in my family have genetically strong legs. He doesnt have access to a squat rack though or really any barbells so I have him doing lots of accessory and dumbell stuff (lunges, stepups, db deads, etc...) till he starts highschool and can use a real weightroom.

kw1k - word

Anthony - Your right, he started at 60 lb dumbells just like he started at 3 pullups. Now he's at 80 lb dumbells and 6 pullups so at least the kids making progress. Everyone has weak points and while his back is strong it takes some time to get better at pullups. Besides I dont think Ryan Kennelley or Wolfey are too concerned with pullups strength to aid them in their powerlifting but trust me I have pullups in his routine twice a week.

Mix - yah thats why I have him killing the dumbells right now, i've also taught him that the smith is evil (you can see it in the video). I've seem him use the smith once and he repped 2 plates on it like a joke and even though its a smith i still think thats alright. He loves deadlifting so far so I cant wait to see him pick up a real barbell. I think he'll enjoy squats too.

biggimp
06-09-2006, 11:59 AM
i think 13 is too young to be doing squats anyways. he might shrink and become as short as you :o
