MY friends a crosscountry runner (runs 3 miles) and he wants to know what to eat on competition day for best results if he wakes up at 7, and runs at around 6 or 7. Keep in mind unlike us bodybuilders cramps can be a big problem.
What's most important is what he eats the night before. He should load up on carbs and get plenty of rest. The day of the race, he should eat very light. I would always stick to just a bagel or some cereal. Nothing heavy on fat or acid (no sausage, eggs, OJ, bananas, etc.). He should also drink plenty of water.

Runners generally do carb loading. Not sure how you go about it, though.
