I was spotting. i helped him VERY SLIGHTLY at the bottom of the lift. but i only pulled maybe 5-10 pounds worth of help. not much i could do with 495 in a curl position anyway...

Nice lift, but I get pretty pissed if my spotter even touches the bar, much less hold on to it the whole time. Impressive nonetheless.

well honestly i was scared for him... i usually dont spot that way. but i was thinking of what the **** i was gonna do if he got 495 stuck on his chest... so i tried to keep a feel for what was going on through the lift. he kept saying he knew he'd get it, but i wasnt sooo sure.

So, is that a forced rep or a failed attempt?

insane

heh ...
That guy is really strong, but he shouldn't be telling people that he can bench 495 raw. He did the bounce off chest + help from spotter + hip thrust with ass-off-the-bench.

Still a whole lot of ****ing weight.

It's also hard to judge how much weight you carry when you're spotting under the bar. Just putting your hands below the weight and "guiding" it makes a big difference. If you are pulling at all it's probably like 45 lbs less resistance. I hate when I max out without a workout partner and have to rely on the random spotter.

whatever you wanna call it. i didnt help much at all. like i said, maybe 5-10 pounds at the bottom of the lift. once it came off his chest it's all him.

well... powerlifting contest that wouldnt count. but it's still an insane feat. especially since he weighs 220 @ under 10%. 20 inch arms w/ a 32 inch waist.

Next time get a couple of side spotters and let him bench the whole way, otherwise you're not helping him much by controlling his bar path.

Regardless, he's a strong dude.

yea. i suggesting getting side spotters, but there was really nobody around. and i can honestly say i think he would have gotten it w/o me. the 5-10 pounds worth of wieght i helped him with was mainly due to me being scared he'd kill himself and it'd be my fault. lol

Real strong press. Obvisously your not gonna be able to take much off that 5 pps even if you wanted to and it didn't look like you were tryin to.

exactly... i can understand helping on a 200-300 pound lift. but i couldnt do much with 500 pounds in a curl grip standing up if my life (or his) was depending on it. it would have been like when my girlfriend was spotting my on 305 and i failed :(

sick lift that guy is strongggg, the 315 x 8 was cool to, i used to do reps from the lower portion and 3/4 up also.

That guy is strong but why does he prefer that type of spotting? Pesonally I like to know that I'm doing the weight all by myself, even a slight spot can make up for 25lbs. I understand you spotting him like that for the 495 if he was worried, but I don't get it for the 315.

impressive strength. i agree about the spotting, it makes it impossible to tell how much of that he lifted. regardless, he's still a very strong guy.

You have got to get your hands off the bar. Regardless who is spotting me I tell them not to touch that bar unless I call for it.

He's no doubt a strong dude, but why not do an actual bench press instead of a bounce press.

That's what I was thinking. The 495 looked a lot cleaner than those reps. A little ronnie-esque in the ROM but still some strong benching.

Just watching the way you spot him makes me cringe... I guess if that's the way he likes it, then more power to him. He's strong as hell.

Thats crazy man. Your buddy is strong even though you DID help him.

if he was so confident....you sould have let him do it on his own....

I understand the tight spot on the 495 but did you really need to hold on to the weight for the 315 x 8? Strong guy though.

Why didn't he just make it an even 500?

Does anyone else spot that way? Using a curl grip?

I have always use a alternative grip, like in a deadlift..
And I usually try to be higher above the BPer.. so I really can pull up on the bar if the BPer gets in trouble...

PS.. Nice strength on your friend.. but your arms are flexed in the 495, so you are probably applying >10 LBs force... tell your friend to slow down and get him into a competition.. they he can find out what his real number is.

saw your other video there. I dont know if your 315x1 can be considered a legit lift. it looks like you bounce it right off your chest.

If your talking about Mic's 315x1 it probably wouldnt count in a sanctioned meet, but for the average gym goer it was fine. He moved the weight, and I think thats all he cared about.

DEFINITELY a strong lift!! But having your hand on the bar takes off A LOT more weight then you think. The second you start to lift just a little, that number jumps up 4-5x the amount.

Either way, strong lift, but I wouldn't be asking you for a spot! ;)

i say he can pump 455 no problem.

In a competition I'd say no way.

-15 at least from the spot
-30 from the bounce off the chest
-15 from the huge butt arch
-20 from the pause in a competition

I'd guess more like 415 raw.

..which, btw, is still really ****ing strong.

these forums are so annoying it always turns into a pissing match about the ****ing form. let them lift however the **** they want.

very impressive.

What the hell?

No offense, because the guy is clearly strong as ****. But man, who benches like that? He's not even coming close to locking out on those first few and he's bouncing quite a bit.

I was gonna agree at first. But I mean, it's posted at 315x8... but it's not that, because the spot is taking a bunch of weight off and he's not doing what I'd consider a full ROM. I think the idea of the forums is to make people lift somewhat correctly, which is a useful purpose.

some people bench like that to keep the stress on the chest.
