todays bench workout was awesome, this is just for flat bb bench-

135x6
135x6
185x6
225x6
260x6
275x5
225x6

i think i could have got 275x6 if i was fresh but no worries, a great workout nonetheless, i also got 385x5 on conventional deads and 230x8 on bent rows!!

You do have quite the difficult task ahead of you, which might be very difficult without awesome genetics.

greathuskie
06-28-2006, 05:54 PM
very difficult = impossible

sorry bro, set yourself a realistic goal, say 365, so you wont be disappointed when you dont reach it.

06-28-2006, 06:10 PM
I agree with the above, i doubt it can be done, I currently press more weight than you and consider myself to have great genetics yet I dont see 400 coming in the next year. If you have any shot, know the westside barbell strategies like the back of your hand, immediatly.

06-28-2006, 07:11 PM
im breaking through a plateau and eating like a horse, but i see where you coming from, it will be hard but im going to give it everything ive got, i want 400 at 19 badly

levronefan
06-28-2006, 07:17 PM
i did 240x5 about a 2 months ago or so and i also maxed that day getting 305x1. now im able to do 275x5, im not sure what my max is but obviously it has increased significantly.

nevertheless it is going to be a stretch, but motivation, determination, and focus goes a long way in lifting weights. im expecting to gain 10-15 lbs along the way as well.

If he does a singles routine where he just concentrates on bench, he could. But then he'd look a bit strange with a large upper body.

Good luck with the bench but your asking for about a 80 pound gain in less then 6 months, unlikely.

levronefan
07-04-2006, 01:20 AM
i think im doing much more than 320, seeing as how i got 305x1 when i did 240x5 times....

Jinkies
07-04-2006, 02:11 AM
That doesnt mean much because you can hit your breaking point. Im telling you 250-350 is alot faster then 350-400.

Just wanting you to be realistic but if you do get it I want to hear about your workout routine, who knows you might get it but im speaking of the average person.

So what did you get???

smokinHawk
01-08-2007, 11:31 AM
go ahead and keep your goal at 400 and try as hard as you can to get it, dont be discouraged if you dont get it though

I have been trying to break 405 for about 3 years now, injuries and lifestyle changes have set me back, ive gotton close two times before i dropped off got 390 twice (weighing 170 and not so strict and with a lose bench shirt)

if your ownly benching around 305 getting that 95lbs in 12 months will be tuff, problem if you constantly move the weight up consecutivly 8lbs each month, it sounds do-able

when you think you can do 320 when you get 305 doing a set of 240x5, we call that a warm up, if you just jump into the heavy weight with out doing some warm up sets your gonna hurt yourself, also you wont be able to lift as much with out a good warm up with some good weight.

right now i can bench 350x1 raw with good form, touch and go. I am hoping to get that extra 55lbs in 12 months which i know will be very difficult, alot harder then it was for me when i got 275-325
but if you believe you can get it, just know that it isnt going to be a picnic.

That's only about a 315 max

i would agree, but I suppose it must be very individual thing. I got 275x 9, but would say my max was about 330-340.
Whatever I cleanly triple I would probably add 15 - 20 lbs as a max. I suppose it has much to do about how strict your doing reps and max also.
So what did you did Levrone?

Detard
01-08-2007, 07:22 PM

Hey... If a 14 year old Fuzzy can add 100 - 200 pounds on ALL his lifts in a couple of months, surely its doable....

Good luck Levronefan, seems a tad high to aim, but thats no problem as long as you dont get discouraged if you fail, or arent making the gains you want. :indian:

im fairly confident i will break 300 on close grip before the years out, an my max now is probably only 200-205, so 95-100lb increase..i would guess he can do 315 for 1 now so maybe only 85lbs increase - i dont see why this is so 'out there'

cause thats alot of weight to move up that fast "naturally" for all those people that have been there and done that.

its about 7lbs a month - a big increase for sure, takes a lot of effort an a consistency that few can find, but i dont see it as crazy talk

01-09-2007, 02:35 PM
This thread statred mid last year....to increase 80-90 lbs in 6-7 months is crazy...in one full year would be more likely. A decent goal should 300 lbs for 10 reps, that should get you in the ballpark for a 1RM for 400

Guido
01-09-2007, 03:53 PM
It's taken me 2 years to put 100 lbs on my bench, and I've gained 60 lbs in that time. Considering my gains have come faster than most, I'd say 100 lbs in a year or less is quite unrealistic for a natural lifter.

and dont forget that the higher the weight gets, the harder it is to increase. (100-200=butter, 200-300=icecream cake, 300-400=watermelon with a dull knife, 400+=block of ice... i'd imagine  )

Magnus Samuelson has developed his 6 foot 7 inch frame to the point where he can bench press 300 kilos - at the end of the day, the weight is only known to the mind, the body does not know whats on the bar

Maybe so but if your CNS isn't yet ready to handle the weight you will get crushed regardless of how light you convince yourself it is.

Just go balls out man, dont think you can't do it or you definitelly wont. If you really specialized this year in bench and focused each week on making it stronger as well as using different bench tools like boards, bands, chains, etc... I bet you could push your bench up pretty high.

His goal was to get 400 by the start of this year. Not by next year. We're over a week in, so I guess it would be pretty close. Good luck.

Bull on who? He hasn't maxed yet, the 420 was a joke.

Magnus Samuelson is a rare individual, not the best example of what the average person can accomplish. I agree to an extent with what you are saying, but this is the extreme.

i did 240x7 on incline about 1 month and a half ago, then did 3 weeks of light lifting( very light), then started back up again to dumbell flat bench,

i guess i just forgot about that goal of benching, i was just focusing on size and have put on A LOT OF SIZE!!

anyway, like i said, ill see how this week goes, ill do flat bench and see what i get rep wise, and then feel how a max would look.
