I just started working out after a few years hiatius. I have a split routine and have been going at it every other day--workout day/ rest day. Since I started my routine I find myself adding exercises as motivation grows. On my day off I sometimes cycle.
What some ideas on rest? I am tempted to workout daily but skip a day for rest. I'm glad I am motivated, but I know rest is as important as anything else.

Rest is when your muscles grow...

Your question wasn't that apparent by your original post...
But, you seem to be getting adequate rest. You can do it every other day, or 2 days on 1 day off, but the key is to make sure you get some days of to rebuild.

Hey, just a suggestion.. try a split like this:
Monday: Upper Body, with emphasis on heavy bench / dips.
Tuesday: Lower Body, with emphasis on heavy deadlift.
Wednesday: Rest Day.
Thursday: Upper Body, with emphasis on heavy rows / chin-ups.
Friday: Lower Body, with emphasis on heavy squats.
Saturday: Rest Day
Sunday: Rest, and 20 minutes of HIIT.
I just started one like this and I'm seeing some good results. ;)

Apologized for not being clear...my bad
I was more interested in working out two days in a row and then rest. I do every other day. I just wanted to know if I was working my body against itself and the current thinking on how many days your body really needs to rest and rebuild. My past has told me that guys don't emphasize the rest enough. It's a temptation we all deal with from time 2 time.
Also, I am over 40 (43) so a lot of you younger guys won't get the age thing to your body. I feel like I did however when I was 30 and lifted a lot. So I don't want to make a big deal of the age thing. A tremendous amount of information and science is available that was not years ago. You young cats are WAY ahead in ways you might not understand. Yet, too much science can make one think that the "work" isn't as needed. So maybe it's a mixed blessing.
Cool forum you have here. I like how many people respond to questions by first asking foundational things like proper diet & routine. Very wise and good counsel.

I do upperbody then lowerbody then rest, seems to work fine for me. Try it out and see if its enough recovery time for you.

yeah rest is SUPER important, old school guys did the traditional M W F which i love dearly and they were massive. i personally think you need at least 2 off days, its hard but you gotta do it.
