View Full Version : Is it ever too late to eat carbs/protien?

I heard from some website to avoid eating carbs after 6:00 PM, however, for a later snack to tide me over before bed, its hard to just cook up and eat meat, its much easier to grab something carb based. The same can be asked about protien.

Is it ever to late to eat protien or carbs?

yeah there's this little time clock in your body that after 6:05:01, all food goes straight ----> fat.

In all reality some have their biggest meal right before bed (night workouts). Focus on hitting your macro's not the time.

Well I have had a lot of carbs today, more then 45%, but the last view days I have had more protien..does it all even out?

Well dont use %'s. Did you hit 1-1.5g of Protein per lb of LBM (lean body mass)? Did you hit .5g of fat per lb of LBM? Did you eat enough calories on both days?

Are you bulking or cutting?

I'd say 1g/lb bodyweight of fat, and who gives a sh!t about when you eat, it really makes no overall difference. I would recommend eating right before bed and right when you wake up though if you're at all interested in providing your muscles adequate nutrition to either bulk or maintain LBM on a cut. Protein/fat/carbs in order of priority, 2g/lb protein, 1g/lb fat, fill in the rest of your calorie requirements with carbs.

I eat right before bed, and almost never sleep through the night, so I also eat in the middle of the night. Had a 6oz chicken breast at 3 in the morning. Just worry about your overall averages week by week. A day means nothing.

Considering how frequently you train you absolutely should eat before bed.

When cutting I like the idea of keeping your carbs around your training. I usually have a pre workout meal (lowgi/meat protein), a post workout shake(dextrose/whey), and a post workout meal an hour after my shake (lowgi/meat protein). This makes sure your carbs are being utilized for what they are for. If you train at night, then that's when you install the carbs.

I think the myth of not eating after dinner started with people who are dieting, but not really exercising. You know, the New Year's resolution people who only care about the scale.
When your sole goal is to lose weight, not eating after 6 pm would help a lot of people. How many people do you know that sit down and eat a bag of Doritos while watching their favourite late night show?

EDIT: I think it is also propegated through bull**** women's magazines like Cosmo.

Hot dogs don't have that much protein and the preservatives in them turn toxic when they go through the liver.

i think eating as soon as you wake up and before bed is essential to feed your muscles.

1g of fat per LBM??? dayummmm dude that means i would need like 165 and some would need more.

I find doing the reverse is more effective for me
- eating before I wake up and as soon as I go to bed.

I dont eat that much fat at all... Less then 20g a day usually. In fact some days I am less then 10g of fat. Yes I know I need more, but I am still in the adjusting phase. From one diet to another. Eating 50g of fat now would be overwelming to me.

10g a day = crazy. Ever heard of ESSENTIAL fatty acids?

How would 50g a day be "overwhelming"?

What foods are the best for EFA? I mean I don't want to just pig out on bad fat lol. I know the tuna I get has some EFA, what else?

Fish oil. Go buy a jar of it. Take 8-10g a day. Basically pop a few pills whenever you eat.

Avocado, eggs, olive oil, butter, etc.

Awesome thanks. I just thought of an easy way to get more fat, I am drinking nonfat milk everyday with my cereal, should I just switch the 2% or whole milk? That would be an easy way to get more fat, but is it the right kind of fat?

How many grams of fat and how many calories are in each pill?

I think KW meant 1g of fat.

Each fish oil pill has a gram of fat, usually 300 mg of which are combined EPA/DHA.

I've been getting over 200 grams of fat per day for the past few weeks (all in GOOD fats). When you eat a lot of peanut butter and add olive oil to your shakes the grams of fat really start to add up. I would have difficulty getting the necessary calories for bulking (5000+) without getting a ton of fats.

Alright well I went and bought some Fish Oil pills.

850mg of concentrated fish oil with 440mg Omega-3 fatty acids.

10kcal a pill with 1g of fat
gonna take 2 a day as written on the bottle (or should I go 3, one with each meal?)
