Brent Howard (a.k.a. “Sgt. Rock”) is a celebrity of sorts in the powerlifting world. Brent gives a little bit away about what makes him tick and then tells his secrets for deadlift mastery!

Enjoy :)

I didn't read this article until today.. when it appeared in my email Inbox..
I saw Sgt Rock's performance at the NERB.. it was truly inspiring..
and what was real funny about it, was that Brian Schoonfeld was dressed as a cheerleader - skirt on, belly hanging out - as he was encouraging Brent to go for that 10th rep.

She there were 10 women vying for a bikini contest counting out the Sarge's reps.. and Brian was chick #6 I believe. If you ever seen Brian Schoonfeld, he isn't exactly the best looking women. HAHA

Awesome job ALN getting Sgt Rock!!

Its been years since I have been on here so I thought I would drop by and give an update. IN the past two years I lost both my parents to heart disease, both were 70, way too young to die. MY dad suffered for a long time with heart disease but my mom was in great shape and she literally dropped dead, it was a total surprise for all of us. There are a bunch of other personal things that have happened. Both my knees are very bad off with severe arthritis and torn meniscus in both knees and a host of other problems I will find out when I see my DR in a couple weeks as I had an MRI on both knees. I am still taking ALN products and am at my all time highest weight of around 252, and I still have abs. I havent squatted in over a year so it is VERY hard to keep the weight on. I am pulling only once every fifth week and am unsure if my body can handle this as I just started my new routine. I do heavy gms four weeks in a row and then one week of sumo, which hurts my knees less, and then I repeat the cycle. I am looking at doing a meet in the fall and only the Lord knows if I will be healthy enough to compete and what I may be able to pull, but I HAVE NOT RETIRED. My drs are against me deadlifting and even doing GMS but what do they know? They CANNOT MEASURE ONES HEART! I will be back, I can guarantee it, God willing. I wish all of you the best and if you have any questions email me at SGTROCK804@YAHOO.COM. I prefer the multi ply gear now to help protect my hips which are also arthritic and TITAN made me a custom two ply killer DL suit I am very anxious to try. I am going to make one more run at an official 804 and God willing I will be healthy enough to do it. Even if I can only pull once every five weeks I have a legit shot at smashing the 800 barrier which has eluded me for so long mostly due to injury. So God willing you will see me back on the platform this year. Stay strong and remember, with God on your side and in your heart you need nothing else! God bless and I hope to hear from some of you via email. All emails will be answered.

THis post is in reference to the gent that spoke about the NERB show.

Sir thank you very much for the compliments. I remember NERB like it was yesterday. Eddy Coan called me about five weeks out and told me to do 600 for ten so I immediately posted it online everywhere. Then it hit me.....my best set raw with 600 was five reps! But I was able to get nine solid reps. RAW, NO SUIT NO BRIEFS, WITH A HOOK GRIP, DEADSTOP REPS, 235 BODYWEIGHT. As some of you know, I was toasted after nine reps but Schoonfeld came up and whispered a few things in my ear that I cannot post on here and to top it off, Kaz was the MC and said DO ONE MORE REP FOR YOUR COUNTRY SGT ROCK, YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU!!!!!, so needless to say I SMOKED the tenth rep, I was proud of this set as it was my best set ever with 600 and I was able to do it with a hook grip. I appreciate all of the support you guys online have given me, it truly means alot to me when you take the time to post something nice about me, I appreciate each and every one of you. God bless you all!! If you care to email me please do so at
