My parents tell me not to but I'm going away for a week to SanFran and I was wondering if its safe to take my creatine monohydrate with me? I dont want to have any issues with the security checking and all but I hate to not take it for a week unless that dosen't matter?

Leave it in the original container and you should be fine. Pack it in your suitcase.

I took my supplements to texas on a plane and they were fine, Creatine, and protein powder. Shouldnt be a problem.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you've got a suitcase full of test!
As Built says leave it in the container if you are going to take it with you.
I'm away to Turkey next week for 2 weeks and plan to leave my supplements at home.
I believe personally that it's nice to have a break from time to time, no supplements, no workouts and only relaxation around the pool in the sun to worry about! :p

Like Built suggested; keep it in the original, marked container.

Yeah, just don't be measuring out enough mg's to take with you in plastic baggies, or else they'll be thinking you're trafficking a few kilos. :help:
EDIT: I took my container of creatine and stuff out of country to dominican republic and got by with no problem.

Good thread. I had a similar ? about an ECA stack. The Vasapro says Ephedrine on the box. Airport secutiy aren't known to be sharp or balanced...it usually is fast in the right or wrong direction. I was going to put the tabs in a film container but thought that might cause more probs, so I'm going with Built's wisdom...leave in original box unless you have other thots.

Im saying taking large tubs of the powder might cause a inital difficulty before they clear it up, customs are extremely rough lately

So why dont drug smugglers just put their coke into creatine containers?

Drug sniffing dogs?
If you're that concerned about it, just leave it home and pick some up when you get there.

Can't say I've ever seen then at an airport... and i've travelled a fair amount.
They may sniff checked in luggage but they've never been anywhere near the hand luggage

I'll be taking it with me then, looking like it ought to be no problem as long as I keep it in the original container. Thanks for the replies.

They actually have drug sniffing machines at the airport now. Dogs are becoming obsolete.

Coke and creatine are nothing alike if you get them side by side. Anyone with any drug training can easily tell creatine is not coke.

There is no guaruntee about any of this, TSA is ******ed. I used to work at the airport, and I had a badge that would allow me to go through customs and completly bypass any security, if I had wanted to I could've brought literally anything onto an aircraft. They of course go through an extensive background check before they give you one. I sidetrack, anyway where I was going to in the airport, customs was on the west end, and my destination was on the east end. I was moving a series of luggage carts and wanted to save sometime, they inspected each luggage cart, and made me empty out my pockets which had about 5000keys each time I went through the SAME checkpoint. I tried to explain to them and even showed them my badge, I was telling the guy "Look I have an orange badge, I could just take these through customs and bypass security," and they still wouldn't just let me bring them through. It's scary that these are the people that are responsible for our safety.

I LOL'd at that for some reason...
But yea, to the OP, I have traveled with my protein and creatine many times without a problem. Just do like they said and leave it in it's original container and you should be fine.

I've taken many supplements with me in ziplock bags and always declare them as food supplements. The worst that happens is you are ushered through a separate line and your bag checked...they never confiscate your food just be honest and fill out the forms.

Not exactly true DJ... those sniffing machines at the end of the security check point are for explosives..
There are a number of machines they (Gov't) are experimenting with.. but the turth is that they are no where close to dogs... last factor I heard was to a factor of 10 to the 5th... (100000 times)... animals/nature are/is amazing..
OP.. Original packaging worked for me the last couple of times I had to travel with Creatine... most times I put it in my checked baggage... but the 2 times I put it in my carry on laptop bag, security never said anything when they checked it.. didn't even open the container.. just gave me a funny look.

I've only seen them once:
...in the baggage claim area when I got in to Boston from Amsterdam.

Then they must be testing them at LAX, where I was last week. They were opening the luggage before we even entered the airport, and were swabbing the interior of the baggage with a cot then running the cot thru a machine. They then loaded the luggage onto a conveyor after everything checked out. I asked the operator what they were testing for, and she said 'everything' (prob a canned answer). I'd imagine that there prob was someone on the other end doing physical checks (with the dogs) for comparison.
