Okay so i just decided to post it here. So please everyone, post and repost your numbers. And please read the rules and regs first!
Thanks guys :)

The Max Weighted Chin Challenge
Deadline: Monday 4th September 2006

Rules and Regs

First off, no inflating of numbers, i.e no cheating, this is just a bit of fun to keep things at WBB friendly, fun and and to keep spirits and motivation high!*

If video footage of the lfits can be psoted that would be very much welcommed. But as this just a bit of fun, video is NOT a nessesity. (fits in with the first rule)

The challenge is for Max Chinups/Pullups only. So if its your working set, please only post a set where you did just one rep. So basically jsut post your 1RM. If you post for e.g. 5 x BW + 80lbs. Only the weight will be classed as your 1RM. so in this case 80lbs would be classed as your Max Weighted Chin/Pullup.

When posting your Max attempt(s), please include these details.
Your Bodyweight. e.g. BW = 150lbs
Weight of max weighted chin/pullup. e.g. BW + 60lbs

Exeucution of a Weighted Chinup means that your palms are facing toward your body, and you have to fully extend your arms so you are in a hanging position (with weights either strapped to your belt, or a dumbell or somekind of weight between ur legs), and then pull up until your chin touches or exceeds past the bar.

Execution of a Weighted Pullup is the same as above exept that a pullup is the palms face away from the body instead.

Chin Ups and Pullups at this moment in time for this challenge shall be kept as different challenges so in one part of the challenge shall be "Max weighted chin up" and the other part shall be "Max weighted pullup" unless you guys would rather just have it mixed, and to do whatever you feel is most comfortable.

have fun, and stay safe and good luck in your quest for that 2 x BW chin/pullup!

The deadline for posting your max's and BW's shall be the 4th of September. You have two months. Now GO! ;)

New Rule! All posted Max's should be farely recent. 1 month ago is the maximum I will say. Just so that this challenge is actually a current one! ;)

*If i have got pullups and chinups mixed up please tell me!* lol

Edit:

Edit: Just thought I would add this. There will be three seperate categories for this Challenge. Canadian Crippler suggested and I thought it was very good so i think this is how the system shall work!
Categories are..

Total weight lifted (BW+weight attached),
Additional weight lifted (weight attached), and
Percentage of BW lifted (BW+ weight attached / BW x 100)

Any quiries, questions or suggestions feel free to psot them!

*Leauge Table Updated!!! Wednesday 5th July 2006!!*

+135 x 3, as per sig, but that was a WHILE ago. Current best, +90 x 8. BW 230. No vids yet but three witnesses. Will work on the vids, and on bigger weight. :)

DAMN YOU BELIAL. I thought I had a decent chance at it.

Stats:

Weight- 158lbs
Palms Away- BW +70lbs x 1
%=144.4% of BW

Have video in my journal. Was from my most recent gym workout.

If we have until Sept, I'll def try and get BW +2/3s which means I would need, BW + 104lbs.

Sounds fun, I'll give it a go.

Goodwinm

Belial, That is awesome! (remember the rules say id have to count that +80lb as ur max) So jus remember to get a max posted, as im sure u wil.

Chub - Awesome also! :) sweeet stuff.

Lothar - Damn right!

BW 200lbs + 25lbs added x 16 reps....Ive never tried a 1 rep max
U shud try one man. and 200lbs + 25 for 16 reps is v. good. How many BW chin ups can u do?

Okay. I did some weighted chins this morning (for the first time since ever) lol. Damn, as soon as I had extra weight onto the chins I cud feel my abs tightening. Damn it felt good! lol.
Well im very pleased with the numbers i was playing with today.

This is how it went.

BW = 160lbs (as of this morning)

10 x BW chinups (warm up)
BW + 48 x 6
BW + 70 x 3 (foot slipped and dropped dumbell. lol)

So was pleased with these so far. But it was too light, i knew i cud get more. So I added more. (alot harder tho, when trying to keep dumbell in between legs)

I went crazy and put 114lbs on the dumbell. I really thought i cud get it. So I tried it.

Didnt go according to plan the first time I tried. As the video will show. How NOT to do a weighted chin up lol. Quite funny actually.

Vide of **** in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v528p8tgjh0

So after a few more tries of 116lbs. (only being able to get halfway) I decided, ahh man it just aint gonna happen. So i thought, well to save total embarassment, i'll take off the 5kg plates and put 2kg plates on instead. Totalling 46.5kg (102lbs) I got it with a little struggle. So thats my PB as of now. (Technically the weight was 102lbs, because the weight of my dumbell is 2.5kg, and not 2kg) which is what i thought.

Video of BW + 102lb chinup: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SJLS_tZ6eE

Max Weighted Chinup = BW + 102lbs @ 160lbs BW

Im pleased. it makes sense i got about 102lbs. Cuz I have done 120kg (264lbs) x 1 on lat pulldown machine.

And with a little training I will get a 2 x BW chin hehe :p

and to finish off my workout of chinups.
I banged out 21. wow i nearly threw myself through the roof after using heavy weight.

So if above is hard to read here is my max so far.

Max Weighted Chin: BW + 102lbs @ 160lbs BW

Added Weight = 102lbs
Total weight (BW + added) = 262lbs
Total Percentage of BW = 163.7% :)

Posted the same in the other thread, but since this is "official" ... lol

BW(180)+135 for a single. I doubt I could do much more than that now.

Anthony
07-04-2006, 11:42 AM
That was 5 months ago, so I don't expect it to count for this comp. I may try again if I have time, but I'm not making any promises. :D

Just posting to say that ive uploaded the first set of results from the past few days in this thread.
So the website has been updated.
See what you think.

http://wbbchallenges.741.com/

Anthony - Ive put your score in as 135 @ 180. But if you could maybe do that again soon just to make it more fair on everyone else then that wud be good :) and a very well done btw! that is an awesome lift!

EDIT:
I had just taken a shower right before that. SO i suppose if i was at a gym, i may get 5-10lbs more.

I see, good job that would be kind of hard to do, I dont know if i could do 90 right now but i would like to get up to at least 100 over bw, I suck at reps, would be lucky to do 15.

Couldnt resist.
I normally only do pullups not chins but their is little difference reguardless of grip in strength.
45lb smoked
90lb smoked
125lb good pull-started to strain and feel my rear delt pull. thats it for me.
BW 236
125+236=361

If this contest goes on long enough for my shoulder to heal I will give it another shot.
Lot of strong pullers on here indeed. great job guys!

BW 140 + 70 lbs. = 150%

I did 70 lbs. x 1 no video. <--- this was full ROM though.

I did 120 lbs. for 1/2 the ROM...I was over-confident. (Ripped my t-**** too LOL!) - Recorded

I did 100 lbs. but I was like 4-5 inches short of getting my chin over the bar. - Recorded maybe if I didn't attempt 120 lbs. I *may* have got it.

I'd hate to be a dick, but I don't see any way that your rep is legit. You didn't start from a dead hang, and it doesn't look like you got your chin high enough(plus there's a beam between your hands blocking your head).

I'll try to get in the comp as soon as possible, but the highest I've gone is BW+40x1 and you guys are putting up some massive numbers, so it may be a while :D

DNL
07-06-2006, 06:31 PM
You saw a beam between my hands? also, how can you say that's not from a deadhang?

I'll try to post another video when my strength recovers. The first vid was of poor quality because it's not a "requirement". We might as well make good-quality-video mandatory. haha Is it hard to believe a 150lbs guy can pull an extra 100lbs? I mean if i want to exaggerate my number don't y'all think i would have entered in the OH challenge?

Anthony

It wasn't a pure dead hang, but it was pretty good.

I tried it first thing in the gym today. I was a little sore from working out the past 2 days in a row so I don't think this is my best possible effort. With more rest I think I could do another 5 or 10 lbs.

Here's what I did:

Pullups
Bodyweight = 201 lbs

1 x BW+45 WU
1 x BW+65 WU
1 x BW+90 Got it!
0 x BW+105 Failed!

So my best 1RM is bodyweight plus 90 lbs for a total weight lifted of 291 lbs and approximately 145% of bodyweight. I'd like to try chinups next time and see if I do any better with the underhand grip.

As for the deadhang.. do you have to stay in that position for a few seconds to make it count?

Anthony

For a deadhang you're elbows would be completely straight. You're close, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Did some quick chins today

bwx3
bw + 45 x1
bw + 75x1
bw + 105 missed touching ching by 1-2 inches i will get this soon. would be a 15 lb pr.

Bob
07-07-2006, 09:40 PM
Did some today.. and I confirmed... that I suck.. grip and back strength.. anyway:

warmups..
Pullups BW x 2
Chins BW x 2
Neutral Grip Pullup BW x 2

Tests:
Pullups BW+25x1 BW+45xfailed
Chins BW+25x1 BW+45xfailed
Neutral Grip Pullup BW+25x1 BW+45x1 BW+70xfailed

My BW today was 241 lbs...

Will try in a couple of weeks again.. I frankly don't think my horrible efforts are worthy of a video.. so unless I can do >70, there won't be any video!

BC.. I think it is for both... a contest for both Pullups and for Chins..

ExPullup.. awesome dude.. does that knurled bar help at all with gripping the pullup?

90 x 1
140 x 1
155 x miss chin 3" from bar
BW 237
I have only a small window left to add to this lift. I want to switch back to power movements. I doubt I can do much more the 140. It was a breeze till the last couple inches. 155 I just couldnt pull the last few inches. I'm trying to think of how to train this maybe a weight around 80 lbs for reps just at the top R O M.

I noticed I'm not in the chart on the website. Here are my most recent results again:

Strict Pullup (no kipping)

Bodyweight = 201 lbs

I want to get back into heavy pressing soon so I have just under two weeks to add way to much weight to my pull or chins. I may be able to add another 10lbs but no guarentee. I feel weighted pulls and heavy pressing is too taxing on my shoulders. Well see what I can muster. are we going to do a rep challange??? for total weight moved BW x reps= total

Imho, a full range of motion chin isn't simply full hang to 'chin to/above' bar, it's from full hang (and a real full hang, not a drop into a hang to get rebound energy out of the hole) to upper chest/sternum (somewhere in there, bar actually contacts that area - see below).

I initiate a chin by first lowering myself a few inches to full stretch, pause, then start the lift.

Video examples:

bodyweight + 115 x 2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzktckcdQEE

bodyweight + 115 x 1 (******ed strict)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVYLFTyQR5k

Best chin in the above fashion to date is

bodyweight: 165
added weight: 125 (I'm assuming you can take my word for this given the video above showing 115 x 2)

If I simply went to 'chin above the bar' versus the form above, I could probably add more, but I like it strict stylez.

As a sidenote, the videos I posted are old (summer 05), but I repeated the 125 x 1 in the middle of July (haven't really moved up in strength in this lift the past year as I've concentrated on the bench/squat/deadlift pretty hard).

The videos were just to offer evidence that I'm a man of my word :P

However, if we're going based off of July's bodyweight, make that:

Bodyweight: ~160
Added weight: 125

Instead of bodyweight 165, as I did the same several months prior at higher bodyweight. But this contest is for recent results, and I was in the process of acquiring beach homo abs at the time.

I'm sure my numbers are pathetic, but I had my girlfriend try and she got:

BW - 115 lbs
Added Weight - 35 lbs
Total Weight - 150 lbs
Percentage - 130%

Dead hang. No kipping. I was proud of her. She doesn't train, but she's been rock climbing for about 5 months, which doesn't really help pull up strength as much as you might think. She's just naturally a beast...that looks like a 12 year old girl.

I've been working my arse off on these... and have made some good progress in 6 weeks.. thanks to some help from a couple of WBB threads..

Yesterday - Monday Aug. 28th:
bearwolf - 237 lbs
BW x 5
BW + 25 x 1
BW + 45 x 1 (new PR)
BW + 90 x fail...
BW + 55 x 1 (new PR)
BW + 65 x fail... I think I was gassed..

I'm going to give them one more try on Sunday.. and just go for the +65lbs...

but I'm at +55 @ BW 237...

Guido
08-30-2006, 03:46 PM
I tried the 1rm again last night and got 1xBW+120. That's a 15 lb PR over last time I tried it (over a month and a half ago). That means a total weight of 320 (I weighed 200lbs) and 160% of BW.

Goodwinm

i used a dumbell but that realy are arkward especially with my hgue ass dumbells. Most people are using weight dipping and chin up belts.

How about a max dip challenge ;)

This is a fantastic idea... although I predict it will result in the temporary demise of the shoulders of many wbb members as well as ridiculous weights being lifted.

Anthony

Well, we started off well, but the belt ripped and I didn't get a chance to attempt a PR. :(

hahah how much weight were you using? lucky the weight didn't land on your body or something.

Anthony

It actually ripped during Jodi's attempt at +50 ... which is a good thing, because my next set was 170 and that probably would have hurt!

A max dip challenge would be super.

screwed up and tried this again. my shoulder is f-ed now
did 20 reps to warmup
90 x 1
135 x 1
160 x 1
175 strained my right delt the rear part NO lift for this weight.

160 @ 238 = 398 isnt this the most weight lifted??????????????
.
Goodwin did you miss my post?

My shoulder is still f-ed I wont be doing max weighted pullups ever again not worth it. I guess Im just pissed as this has screwed up many areas of my workouts and all efforts to heal my shoulder have been unsuccessful. No need to change anything I just wanted my 398 total acknowledged as I'm still paying for the total I pulled.

Eye opening event none the less lots of freakish pullers out there.

Unfortunately, while it's too late for the contest, I did a strict chin (from pause at full hang to chin over bar) today with bodyweight + 135, where bodyweight is ~165-167.

Oh well.

Well... Anthony would win, but still.

I've done 84 reps after 2 sets of 50 but that was 20 years ago and about 60lbs lighter, pains me to say.
this year my best is 58 and no they were not all the way down locking out my elbows. I can do them just see no benefit. Currently I am only doing 4 sets of 25 reps as my shoulder is still bothering me.
After seeing this contest someone could do better. There is always someone better somewhere this applies 99% of the time.

LOL, I'd be thrilled if I could do ONE set of 50!!! Let alone 84!! Wow!!

Although after my last couple of efforts, I'm pretty sure I could get 50 while fresh. :D

I can't even remember what year I did that in but still have my one witness she gave me two awesome kids that train with me when they desire too.
My boy did 5 pullups at age 5 his first try.lol a chip off the old block.
My daughter shows more her moms qualities in 3rd grade and reads at a 7th grade level. That god she likes to train, balance is everything.

Anthony 50 reps is awesome and if you trained for reps specificly I would say the ceiling is alot higher for you.

When I get my shoulder healed up I will post a video but that is a ways off as
my shoulder has yet to make much progress.

Thanks Meathead.
