My son is 13 and he has developed stretch marks on his middle back. He's very lean and fit but growing like a weed!! He's 5' 9 and weighs 153 pounds. Anyone know why he would be getting stretch marks on his back? I know people get them from being over weight and from rapid muscle growth. But the middle of your back??

I have them all over my biceps, triceps and the outer edges of my pectorals. I also have a few on my quadriceps. Don't worry about them. Make sure that your son is eating healthy, receiving a lot of vitamin e and rub lotion on them every night so you can make the skin more elastic. This is the only way to help prevent them.

Its just from lifting weights or excessing nothing to worry about. I got them on my biceps, and triceps its not a big deal. They should go away by themselves.

He doesn't lift weights though.

I got them at about that age around my upper thighs/hips and faint ones on my lower back. It is likely because he is growing (taller). There's not too much you can do about it other than applying cocoa butter (I think), which I've heard can help prevent stretch marks.

They don't go away. Stretch marks are permanently on your body. They're usually caused by rapid growth spurts that stretch the skin too quickly. When the skin is stretched too rapidly it tears causing stretch marks.

Yeah.... I guess he's just growing too fast.

I had them on my lower back as a teenager. I can't see them at all now.

It doesn't 'tear'. The sking expands rapidly, and the mark itself is caused when the collagen underneath the skin doesn't expand as fast as the skin. Over time the collagen will expand and the mark will became less noticable, usually it starts red and turns silverish. It is noticeable in sunlight. However you can use Mederma, and vit E, and aloevera to help it 'fade'. It'll always be there, if he has them on his back chances are he will have them on his knees as well. Nothing to be alarmed about.

I didn't feel like going into specifics. Noticing I have probably a couple hundred or so all throughout my upperbody I figured a simple explanations such as "tear" would be sufficient explanation.

No I understood that, its just I want the Mother to understand that it wasn't a tear. B/c I figure you know stretch marks are benign but maybe she might see 'tear' as bad...

I'm lucky, only place I ever got them was in the groin area right next to my testicles. No one every really sees them and they aren't that bad anyway. Thanks to my mother for being Filipino.

It seems most guys have them somewhere... most popularly the biceps.

I have then on:

My shoulders, the vertical stretch of skin from my pecs to my shoulders, my back, my quads, my biceps and up a small ways onto my forarms, and in the usual place for fatties... my gut.

Almost all of them are silver whiteish and hard to see.. the only really visible ones are on my biceps and the ones on my shoulder and down that peice of skin to the pecs... their bright red and have been for ever.

I wouldnt worry about it, if hes not fat then it means something grew faster then the skin did.

Yeah I also have some very light ones on my butt. Again, obviously almost no one ever gets to see them. If a chick gets to see them then the chances are that she's already locked on for a love sesh so no worries.

Haha, he'll be happy in a few years that he got the few extra inches of height, even at the expense of a few stretch marks.

Seems like luck of the draw. I'm 6'3" and I bulked from 175 to 230lbs in just over 4 months and I have no stretch marks. Genetics I suppose...?

Bingo. I had a bunch on the innermost part of my thigh when my legs went from 20"odd to 25", the scaring is still there, but very minor - and un-noticeable.

Yeah I suppose it makes sense that height increase (as opposed to girth increase) could cause stretchmarks.
And yeah Nosaj, as usual, genetics I'm sure play a large role.

That's a pretty quick gain. Do you have before and after pics? Was much of it fat?

to the OP. are your sons stretch marks horizontal? my buddy has crohns disease and he started to develop huge horizontal marks on his back that look like he was in a knife fight or something. he thinks its from the medication he was taking.

He's very healthy and doesn't take any meds. but he did have a big growth spurt a few months ago. There are other symptoms that go along with crohns(from my google research) and he has none of them just the stretch marks.
