Okay, I had a pure protein bar today and I saw that it said 19 carbs on the label but 3 net carbs on the front of the package, and it says for peoplet trying to watch there carbs count only 3...why is that? So what do I count 3 or 19?
Also, I had icecream cake yesterday and today and it was so good and has 27 carbs per serving...I was wondering, would this be bad carb, or does it matter?

Net carbs are bull****. I hope that isn't loaded with sugar alcohol.

It says total carbs: 19
Less sugar alcohal and glycerin 16
net carbs 3
What does this mean?

They're saying the sugar alcohol negates the overall carb total. Sugar alcohol gives a lot of people mad stomach aches...especially in that amount.

This "net carbs" thing is a con. Sugar alcohols contain 2 calories per gram and do elicit an insulin response.

Sugar Alcohol > sugar, right? Cause Splenda is a SA and everyone here raves about that stuff.

Splenda (sucralose) isn't a sugar alcohol.

Sugar alcohols are carbohydrates that have been hydrogenated. Sucralose is sucrose that has been chlorinated.

3 sucrose hydroxyl groups get substituted with chlorine atoms to create 1,6-dichloro-1,6-dideoxy-β-D-fructo-furanosyl 4-chloro-4-deoxy-α-D-galactopyranoside. Try saying that 1 time fast.

Sugar alcohols still end up as glucose at the end of the day. Eating a few of those bars a day will certainly ruin your social life. :fart:

I just bought another protein bar, the Snickers Marathon Protein bar and I've been reading about carb cycleing and starchy carbs and stuff and it seems the more I read the more confused I get... This bar has 36 carbs total, 7 fiber, and 15 that are sugar. I read somwhere that fiberous carbs shouldn't count, is that true? And is the sugar part of the carbs bad? Should I stay away from this bar? Can I count all these carbs for my carb count?

Wait, so pouring some splenda packets (1g packets) into my oatmeal is really bad for me?

No, splenda isn't bad for you from what I've read...what does that have to do with anything? lol

You count the total Carbs in the bar. Don't subtract anything. Also check the ingrediants, i'm almost positive the sugar in those bars are HFCS which is bad.

It says total carbs: 19
Less sugar alcohal and glycerin 16
net carbs 3
What does this mean?
that makes 32 cals from sugar alchohol
and 12 cals from regular carbs
