Can I just eat 3 big meals a day if it is enough protein, carbs, calories, fats for my weight?

more feedings of protein equals positive nitrogen balance = optimal muscle growth and recovery.

you'll get better results by eating every 2-3 hours, not to mention stable blood sugar levels equating to consistent energy levels.

How does this help?

To the op - three meals or 6, it's really a matter of comfort.

Increased energy expenditure due to walking to the kitchen twice as often.

Duh.

I used to eat 6 meals a day, but it became a burdan. I eat three decent sized meals now and somewhat of a snack late at night. So, basically 3 good american meals + 1 random snack.

Making 6 meals out of 2,400 calories is meager meals in my opinion. Not sure how anyone can ever feel "full" or slightly. I dunno about you guys, but I like my 1/2 pound of burger and once you add in a small side and some BBQ Sauce, Cheese and a Wheat bun, I am easily around 700 - 900 calories.

Not so hard, Archangel...

Breakfast 500
Lunch 300-1000
Post WO - 200
Supper 500
Pre-Bed - 200

That's what I'm eating to maintain right now. It's somewhere between 1700 and 2400 because I got tired of trying to figure out how much the chicken breasts, store made pot pies, potato wedges, and strips I was eating for lunch from a grocery store deli were worth. If I lose, I can increase the 'knowns'. If I gain I can decrease the 'knowns'. Good enough for me. :)

You do need to consider the amino acid pool....

No, it won't.

If you skip breakfast, doesn't that keep your metabolism from going back up to normal? Your body goes without food while you sleep (or very little anyway) and if you don't eat when you wake up, metabolism stays slower than normal correct? Just like if you go too long between meals your metabolism starts to slow down.

At least that's the way I thought it worked.

scarz was just pointing out that eating 6 meals or 3 meals will not affect metabolism...there has been no scientific evidence that says eating more frequently increases your metabolism....

5-6 is so much better.... its a steady feed of nutrients, as opposed to your body trying to store nutrients in fat.

What the hell is a 'good american meal'? The term 'good' is hardly synonymous with 'american meal'.

3 large meals is totally acceptable, simply have 3 high calorie meals washed down with some whole milk with whey or just milk and you can EASILY get 3000+ cals, hell i can eat that in 1 sitting lol.

I usually eat once a day. Starting at about 6:30 AM and I finish up at about 11:30 PM.

If you're getting the right number of calories, grams of protein, carbs and fat, then NO it doesn't matter.
