What are your stats. I think no carbs after a workout would only benifit someone cutting or someone overweight, it all depends on you and your goals.

What ?????

Bro eat carbs.

Before :-

I'd have a meal around 1 hour before and a banana about 20mins before

After :-

A whey shake with water and some simple carbs ... Glucose or dextrose etc etc.

would rice be ok for an after workout meal?...what specific foods would you eat to get the proper amounts of simple carbs after workouts?

rice is pretty good but sugars such as dextrose and malto, are better.

keep the rice and other real food carbs for the next meal after your post workout liquid meal.

nah, you don't want carbs immediatley after workout.. unless they're simple ones.. in your post workout shake just toss in some sugar

but about an hour or so after your w/o you're gonna want some good complex low gi carbs

"you don't want carbs immediatley after workout"

Unless following a proposed diet plan such as NHE, yes you do.

"in your post workout shake just toss in some sugar"

Table sugar is an awful sources of carbs. It is sucrose which is half glucose [fair enough] but the other half is fructose. Fructose post workout is not the best of options as it replenishes more liver glycogen than muscle glycogen.

"but about an hour or so after your w/o you're gonna want some good complex low gi carbs"

Why an hour?
