View Full Version : damn.. blowing my diet as we speak..

This happens to me everytime.. naturally my body likes to stick to around 12-14% bf. Its kinda my metabolic set point.
Right now I've dieted down to under 9-10%.. and now have gotten a virus.. sore throat, headaches, sore eyes, etc. and the last time this happened was back in june. My bodyfat at the time, under 9%. My body seems to pick up a virus everytime I get to this bodyfat level and it blows everything for me physically and mentally. What did I do last time to counter this? ate like a pig for a week, got out of the virus but gained some unwanted fat.
So now tonight I lay in bed at 12:30.. bad case of insomnia for about an hour and a half and I start totally CRAVING ice cream. I normally have a strong self-will.. but I'm naturally craving ice cream and nothing else because of the soothing affect ice cream has on a sore throat. I fought off this temptation for about 30 min and until finally going nuts.. would have helped if I could have just gotten to sleep but nooo stupid virus.. so I come down stairs and crack open the Nestle Belgian Chocolate Ice cream.. tuttut
After I eat all I can I eat tonight, I need slapped back into gear for tomorrow guys. Help. :help:
On a side note - does anyone else find their more prone to viruses and other forms of sickness when reaching a lower body fat than their bodies are used to? cause I'm really starting to think this was my problem.

Same thing happens to me when I get my body fat really low. Not sure the exact percentage, but it's probably around 8% or so, if I stay there too long, I get the same symptoms you get... Sucks because then I go off my diet for a week to get feeling better again and I will gain too much unwanted fat..

Seems pretty natural to me. Getting your BF% that low isn't normal and you probably aren't getting enough calories(nutrients) so it's harder for the body to fight off a virus.

yeah...is there a reason your keeping your BF that low?

omg guys.. I just woke up this morning and my abs are shining as clear as a window. I measured my waist and its the same as it was the day before and I feel like I've lost a lil bodyfat!
How is this possible.. I ate probably over 1 liter of ice cream last night (1500+ calories). I forgot to mention my body was in near ketosis when I started.. so maybe I just filled in some muscle, and leptin kicked in for me.
Either way my virus is starting to clear up and waking up looking like this has kept me motivated to hit my goal.
Thanks everyone.

It takes more than a couple bowls of icecream to make a difference.

of course. that's always a good reason to work against your body as opposed to with it.

well..i mean, if his immune system gets suppressed when he tries to go to single digit bf...then it's not exactly healthy is it?
isn't that basically the same as being anorexic?
"i know my hair is falling out, but i think i look sexy this way."
it's be different if he was cutting for a contest, and was plainning on maintaining that for a week or two.....but on a constant basis?

I agree that trying to maintain at a level that makes you feel like crap isn't healthy, but it might still be tenable with proper nutrition. Could be a deficiency of some sort...

I don't remember saying I keep this bodyfat on a constant basis. I just recently dieted down this low and planning on bulking back up to 12% or so and then back down so that I'm 6-8% for the entire summer.

oh okay.....i thought you were planning on hanging out that low, as you wanna look good nekkid.
the vitamin deficieny idea of b.'s is intriguing though.....

Been following the NHE cutting plan. It allows me to eat only about 350g of carbs total in a week. (20-30g 5x / week and 80g carbloads 2x / week)
As far as nutrient supplementation, everyday I take in:
-3g Vit C
-400-800 IU Vit E
-2 cups Green Tea
-1 multivitamin
And even though I'm averaging only about 50g of carbs / day, I still manage to get in 15-20g of fiber / day.
Could it be that my body only gets this way once I break a certain barrier, until it gets used to that body fat level?

I wouldn't be getting enough B in my multi?

wait a second...how long have you been following it?

the NHE plan for only 3 weeks but for the past 7 weeks before it I was only eating 60-100g carb / day with the odd cheat day.
Have I perhaps been low carbing too long?

mmm..no..i was thinking if you were in your first 2 week induction, maybe that's why you were getting sick....
but the additional B's would be a good idea, and also supping with additional potassium.

ya i got through the metabolic shift week with ease.. probably because my body was already accustomed to the low carbing for several weeks.

well, avatar.....it doesn't seem like your body is particularly happy at 8%....whether you can acclimate to that or not, I'm not sure though.
