I am always warey of having too many carbs on a diet and I know oats have a lot of carbs. However I was watching TV and an advert was promotoing some crunchy oat cereal (Which looked really good!) for dieters / health.

So, I was wondering on a 1600 calorie a day diet, think I could get away with it for breakfast e.g. 3 times a week and eggs the other 4? I think eggs 7 days a week for any longer and I am gonna turn into an egg... lol.

Basically:
How are oats in terms of Calories & Fats
Advisable on a diet?

Real oats are great. Sugar loaded cereals and sugar loaded flavored oats aren't.
1/2 cup dry is 150 cals, 5g protein, 27g carbs, 3g fat.

When I was eating 1200cals, oats made me way to hungry. So I would say no there not good for dieting (except around WO). Most cereal's are loaded with sugar (like Unreal said) so that really isn't going to help hunger pains either.

That is pretty bad IMO.

What I do with oats.

3/4 cup uncooked in a bowl with milk mixed with chocolate whey. Trust me I hate the taste of oatmeal but with chocolate it's bomb.

The calories you are wasting on those 9g's of sugar could be an extra 9 grams of protein.

I'm 231 right now cutting on 2700 calories and that is all I eat for breakfast. It keeps me full for 5 hours.

Same here. 1 cup dry oats mixed with 1 scoop of whey. 430 cals, 28g protein, 50g carbs, 5g fat and keeps me full and energized for 5-6 hours till lunch.

Because some people have lives and can't go running off to eat every 2-3 hours.

I second that, It's pretty hard to get 5+ meals when you've got school/work. Not impossible, but hard. And they're not always going to be spaced out perfectly.

Because I have a job, I'm cutting so feeling full is good, and 5 hours isn't that long between a meal. Plus the metabolism thing has been proven otherwise.

Plus the metabolism thing has been proven otherwise.

And thank god for that.

Honestly, I never got my diet together until I stopped trying to hit 5 meals/day.

The first successfull cutting diet I ever got on was 3 meals/day.
