I read that he can squat over 1000. So this means he can squat more than any bodybuilder?

LOL, dude, there's a handful of powerlifters now squatting over a grand. And yes, all of them out squat any bodybuilder.

Jack London is a bodybuilder, which is what I think Nate's point was.

yes exactly. Ronnie coleman whos probably the strongest bodybuilder barely squats over 800..

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Ronnie's 800 for 2 was raw whereas I would assume London's squat would be equipped, which makes a huge difference.

Jack was a powerlifter prior to being a bodybuilder.

I'm failing to miss the point of this thread. Who cares if it was during his bbing or pl phase.

what ronnie wore would be legal in a raw powerlifting comp

Ronnie does close stance squat to develop his quads better, i've never seen Jack London squat but if hes doing 1000+ at a powerlifter im sure hes doing a wide stance. Your going to squat heavier weight if you go wide because your incorporating your glutes into the lift.

Hey everybody, Jack London Here!!!!m Great questions, here are some answers:

1) I did squat 1010, back in 87' I was 19 years old, I was a powerlifter at the time, and a superheavyweight.

2) I cannot squat that amount as a bodybuilder, as my training is vastly different now. I can incline 405 for 12 and such, but I don't train for strength anymore.

3) I benched 661 with no shirt as well. So imagine what I could have benched with today's technology in shirts!!!!

Take care all, and keep the faith! NOC Sept 16th.

Very impressive. Could you give a basic outline of what your training was like back then?

Sure, my coach at the time used to say" if you want to get your squat up, then squat!!" He was not a big beiliver in assistance work.

Monday-Squat( 6 sets) rep range 2-5 depending on how far out
Tuesday-Bench(same thing) tricep extensions(3 sets)
Wed-Off
thursday- deadlift( same) 3 sets lat pull downs
friday-various assistance work/nothing crazy
sat-of
sun-off

High, High, High intensity...Not much quanity, just loads of Quality.

Yes, this is very true. I was kidding though, I started lifting for football. Then got into the powerlifting in high school. All-in-All, it's been a great ride...

jack, how did your powerlifting routine from back in school work? what made it intense? and what did you do on assistance day just like some good mornings shoulder and back stuff?

Dude, it was so intense!!!!!!! Every rep was like my last, grinding out 3 reps like your pecs are going to rip right off your clavicle!! Assistance work was limited to lat pulldowns, tricep extensions, calves, and thats about it. No way would I do goodmornings. I'm telling you, you want your back big and strong??? Just deadlift. If you go balls, and I mean balls...You waon't be able to do anything else. I never trained shoulders, never trained hamstrings.... Crazy, but it worked man, my squat went up 200lbs from my senior year in high school to my freshman year in college. It went from 600-800 just from training less and more intense.

Jack, interesting man, did this still get you big? i might just resort to something simple like this for time sake and the fact i think im built for powerlifting.

It would definetly work for you @ 16 years old! Just make sure every rep is like your last.

Intensity and heavy weight is key. The muscle mass I gained during those years has stayed with me even now. From 16yrs-19yrs old.

You can always e-mail me @jack.s.london@citigroup.com if you need any help. It is tough right now for me to answer all my e-mails, 2 weeks out of the NOC. Afterwards, I can help you all you want...No charge bro.

Yes, thank you. I am 7 pounds away from stage. My symmetry is 10 times better than in the past, and I will be razor sharp at around 250lbs.

Call me, I would like to show off my new sweatsuit at the Olympia.......
