We are going to launch a new monthly Q&A column in which Mike Wolfe (world class equipped raw bench press specialist) answers your questions. The column will be visible on www.atlargenutrition.com.

We are looking for the initial set of questions for Mike so please feel free to post yours here and maybe they will get published in the column!

What is an appropriate age to start powerlifting training?

Is there an age where you are just "too old?"

Do you do any cardio and why?

Other than the obvious risk of injury, are there any health concerns related to being a power lifter?

In general, do you perceive any downsides to being a powerlifter?

Awesome.. here are a few:

>> Can you Westside.. without Westside? In other words Wolfy, if you were to leave Westside today, would you still be putting up the numbers you do? How much of Westside is the gym atomsphere, the competition, the motivation and the small bits of knowledge that Louie and George provide?

>> Just got my first set of bands from Elite. Should a new band user just jump into a full Westside band program? Or start slowly? If slowly, then what and how do you recommend the progression? (Oh heck, I may not be able to wait until next month for this one.. I think I'll start a new thread... and then maybe Chris, part of Wolfy's Q&A can reference certain WBB Threads?)

I can answer this one for him. He has screwed up ankles, has broken both of them numerous times, from skateboarding.

Mike: What is the most important aspect of acheiving big bench numbers? Speed training, ME, technique, bands and chains, etc?

Also, what would you tell someone wishing to increase their numbers but still train for hypertrophy?

How much bodyweight is too much, and how much is too little?

Bulking all the way, and getting to your highest weight class a.s.a.p., or constant cycles of bulking and cutting, slowly working up to a higher bodyweight?

Shoulder work: how much is too much? (Big Gene mentioned lately he has stopped all additional front delt work because he was overtraining them constantly)

[possibly long one:] Tips on assessing one's own weaknesses, for those who train alone?

Question: Areas of focus on the bench press other then rowing movements for someone who fails at the bottom of the bench press. This is taking into account that the person's ratio of rowing (bent over, seated etc) to pressing is very high.

Question; I'm training as a RAW PL, and my bench is terrible! I'm looking to include board work, should I bother? What other ME exercises should I do as a RAW lifter?

I second this question, I always fail right off my chest, and pull way more than I push.

The leg drive one is tuff to answer I think. Easier to show tuff to answer but I think you got the right man for the job!
