View Full Version : Are stimulants bad for bulking?

I know that stimulants help you on a cut, but I'm not entirely sure why. Is it because they give you energy in a caloric deficit? Or is it because they boost your metabolic rate?
The reason I ask is because I drink a fair ammount of coffee and I'm trying to bulk. Would this make it more difficult to gain weight?

Yes and no.
It will increase your energy expenditure, however, if you were using it when you were maintaining then it's reflected in your maintenance cals.
The only way it's a problem is if you are finding it really difficult to get enough cals.
Built says stay away from ECA and other stacks because of the partitioning effects. I don't think this applies to caffeine.

A couple cups of coffee a day isn't going to hurt your bulking. Drink up

i dont think so, works for me. But I prefer lean bulking not just putting on mass size and fat. I pretty much use Pure EC and thermorexin (rotated) year round.

I think I understand what hes getting out, theres been talk that energy drinks( usually fat burners) burn away muscle along with the fat making it difficult to bulk.

So ECA during a bulk is a no-no?
Would it not help to encourage calories to go into muscle and not into fat? I really dont know much about ECA.

As I understand it, stimulants such as ephedrine and caffeine *can* affect partitioning. Now the question is "by how much?".
My feeling is your regular caffeine intake from beverages is probably fine, and maybe EC before workouts for the extra energy. A lot of people I know do it that way, and they seem to be fine with it. I know I really like that amped feeling EC gives me before a workout!

Been taking it for every workout, usually anything that has 25mg of ephedrine or so and a minimum of 200mg caffiene up to 400mg caffiene before I train.
I dont' take it on other days, just keeping my tolerance low so I can still feel the stim. affects for my workouts.
It's ok to take on a bulk, it won't make a huge difference and the way it gets you energized for a workout is well worth it.
