View Full Version : Exercising a badly bruised muscle?

I gave myself a nasty bruise on the leg the other night, 3" X 4", dark and deep. I've got this stupid drug commercial in my head - "No matter how tough you are, you're no match for a blood clot." I'm probably worrying over nothing but I've been told clots can break up and get into the heart. Any truth to that?

I'm not an expert, but I think blood clots and bruises are completely different things.

Thats a big bruise, bet its nasty. Stop worrying about a blood clot. Yes, a blood clot can break up and travel to the heart, but thats most commong on severe injuries such as broken bones. As for excercising the bruised muscle, If it hurts, dont do it. No harm will come from you letting it heal.

Get drunk and jump off a roof or something?
Wait until it starts to fade away, you aren't going to magically lose all your muscle in a week if you don't lift.

What did you do?
Dude, try wearing a squat suit some time. Bruises all the time! Just suck it up and lift.

I was chasing the dog at night, I knew when I started I was going to end up running over yard junk, and that's what happened. Some kind of miniature green house thing.
Damn lab puppy - too cute to resist.
Drew - I'm betting your squat suit doesn't do as much damage as having your full weight land on the corner of a metal shelf. I'm not complaining about pain, it doesn't hurt unless I poke it, but it is a particularly nasty looking bruise and I'm completely ignorant about what kind of problems it could cause.
Jack, 3 weeks ago I slipped while jumping into a lake and caught my stomach on the dock. I feel your pain.

Better your stomach than your balls, I always say.

Please dont make reference to balls... I was doing the excersize were the bar is on the ground, between your legs, and you pull it towards you from the ground.
My friend comes from behind me and picks up the other end.
I had tears.
