Yeah err uhh, my deadlift is decent at 495 @ 215 lbs of BW but I wont be hitting 645 for another couple years I would think. It's definitely a goal to try for. I'd think by the time I hit it though I'll be much heavier.

I am totally in on this. I'm going to go ahead and start myself off at 0. Yup, that's zero. Exactly what I can deadlift as of today). I'm hoping to get back up to my old weights and at least break 400 by the end of the year. I'm more like 185 right now, so that gives me a ways to go. :D

ItalianGalleon
02-15-2004, 10:55 PM
Alright, so I've broken the 400 barrier. Now I just have to add 180 pounds and gain 0 body weight and I'm there!

Count me in! Deads were yesterday and at 194lbs. that means around a 580 dead- and I pulled up a 505lb dead non-sumo style much to my surprise... whats the best way to gain some lbs. in the lift? Doing reps at around 60% of my 1rep max? or heavier? Ive been pulling up 365 for 7 once a week and hitting 405 for 4 in the same workout... I know a sumo-lift might pull more but the lift is uncomfortable to me.
Im ready!

ItalianGalleon
02-26-2004, 11:13 PM
No, all it takes is 400 for you to be a stud. In fact, if you can do 400, you're totally awesome. See a few posts up.

I feel like jumping for joy because I just set new records myself this week

squat 135x10 *yay! I can use the big plates now!!!!* (ATF front btw)

I've been on a bulk and I'm at 5'10 200lbs now, double yay!!!

I thought I was a strong kid, you guys are monsters!

Belial how do you get down from your pullups with 3 plates strapped to you?
I've done them with 2 plates and coming down I always lurch forward and feel like I'm going to go crashing through the mirror!

Adam
04-12-2004, 06:55 AM
Thats the first time I've ever seen myself do deads on vid (from a side angle), they did look like sldl's but i guess thats how i've always done them.To me it feels like i use alot of hamstrings so it suprised me to see my form.

bill
04-12-2004, 10:26 AM
well I've never done many deadlifts and you do more than I but I was surprised by the form i don't know if works do it i guess or get a experienced lifter to give u a critic?

I've had people check my form before and they never said anything was weird, must be different for everyone.

I see myself do them and that's close to my form. Vids of LATMAN (CR) show very similar form. I didn't know there was any other way to do them.

04-12-2004, 11:11 PM
Adam, it looks to me like a SLDL. At least thats roughly how I do them. I recently helped my friend who was doing the same thing. Basicly without watching you from other angles all I can really say is to get your butt down and pull your shoulders back more. Focus on leg drive and keeping tight. Also, I dont mean to be touchy but is that how you deadlifted before your accident? Did the accident force you to change your form somehow? Sorry if the advice or questions are unwanted, I realize that everyone lifts differently. I'm just trying to help. :)

Adam
04-13-2004, 02:53 PM
No harm in trying to help:)
That dead feels the same as all the ones I did in the past so I probly always used that form.
Scooby - The accident didn't leave me with any physical limitations or affect my lifting at all (except alot weaker:D)

Form is different for everyone. One of the greatest deadlifters of all time was Bob Peoples who pulled 720 ish pounds at ~180 lbs of bodyweight. What is more impressive is that he did it in the late 30s to early 40s (1930s-40s that is).

Bob pulled from the floor with a rounded back.

If you do not feel as though you will be injured, and you feel you are lifting in a fashion which maximizes your potential, then I think form on the deadlift is nothing to worry about.

That statement is what I tell anyone that I'm helping to learn how to deadlift. For me my back/spinal erectors are very flexable so that bend in my back doesn't strech the muscles/ligaments at all.

damn 43 pages of yapping!

I just want 2x everything.

I can do 325lbs on flat bench at 180lb BW right now(raw/natural - no benchshirt, not juicing, etc).

I just need to add 25lbs to bench and lose 5 lbs of fat for 350 bench at 175lbs.

squat & deadlift at 2x BW is fairly easy, though I'm not there at the the moment b/c of lack of training them. (too much focus on arms & chest for bragging rights and appearance)

well. at the moment im about 67kg (147lbs)

I wreckon i can do that with a little bit of extra leg pumpage. Trouble is though, i only have 100kg of weight to put on my barbell lol. And i can deadlift that with ease. hmmmmm

My best is 2.03, so I'm pretty far off haha. If I get my goals perfectly that wont change either, as the weight I want to be at X amount of time vs. the strength I want to have at X amount of time doesn't put me even up to 2.1xBW. Who knows though, I don't think 2xBW is too bad for a jewish grade 11 boy :p

ooook then. Well I can leg press 240kg (528lbs)
I know thats just how strong my legs are. I gotta take into account how strong my grip is.
well. at the moment im about 67kg (147lbs)
so i gotta be able to Deadlift 3 x 67kg = 201kg (442lbs)

I wreckon i can do that with a little bit of extra leg pumpage. Trouble is though, i only have 100kg of weight to put on my barbell lol. I pulled 413 @ 165 a few months ago which is 2.5 x bw. However i've recently gained 15 pounds and gotten weaker, so a triple bw dead is likely a very long way off.

Hate to be a nay sayer but I very much doubt that your deadlift will be anything near your leg press...

The sad thing is that there is no correlation between leg press and ANYTHING else! ...except maybe other leg press machines.

Leg press is utterly pointless aint it really?
unless you have to use leg pres due to back problems or pains doing deadlifts etc.

Pulled 480! 5 more lbs from 3 weeks ago, I will slowly work up to 3x and then we'll all have a joyous celebration when I do, k?

Let's see, when I get to my weight of 220 (soon) I'll have to DL.....660lbs. Don't order the cake just yet.

Hehe. nice going Nick Hatfield :-)

Does it frustrate any of you guys when you increase your max deadlift by say 20lb. You have gained weight also, so it kind of cancels it out a little.
So building huge mass isnt that great if u wanna get triple bodyweight deadlifts.

Jus somethin ive thought about on occasions. Cuz it is possible to get alot stronger without gaining much weight right?

As long as you're losing fat, it's very possible to lose weight and get stronger, much stronger, at the same time on a Powerlifting routine. Now for a BBer, a comp like this would be tough if they're not cutting, seeing as how they're depending greatly on muscle mass to get their strength from, and you must gain weight to increase mass.

I dont know whats happening with me, because ive stayed the same weight for a long time, and i am still improving strength in lots of areas. I have weighed 67kg for ages now, and about 3 months ago (when i was still 67kg)i trained on 70kg 3 x 6 reps on bench press. Now i train on 80kg 3 x 6 reps. (Which is 80% of my max) And will be pushing that up to 85kg next week.
So am i right in thinking that you dont have to have huge muscles to have huge numbers on lifts? Its all about the strength of the pulling muscles fibres actually in the muscle. And all about the slow and fast twitch fibres and all that jazz lol.

It seems much easier for smaller guys to achieve the high lift to bodyweight ratios. There are 3 guys I know who are about 165 who can deadlift over 3xBW. I know of one guy who is very close to doing it at 210BW, but he's a freak of nature. I know of VERY few people that can do it over 220BW.

I myself would need to do about 600lbs to reach that goal, and I'm not even close...

Very nice pull. And sumo, too!

I would love to be at 3xBW. If I get down to 198ish, then considering I expect to be at about a 530 max dl in September, I'll only need about 65lbs to go. I hope to be there in 6 months to a year.

Hmm... looks like I have my work cut out for me.

At a bodyweight of 300lbs I've deadlifted 405 right before memorial day very easily, havent hit a heavy rackpull or dead since though so I dont know where im at with those. That puts me in at a measly 1.35 x BW, right above girl scout.
