Me and latty are having a little comp to see who gets there first. Any one else that wants in is welcome.
Rules are that you must be weighed the day of the lift and you can only use chalk, belt to do the lift.
Right now latty is at 425ish deadlift @155 and im at about 490-500dead @185bodyweight.
Winner gets......?? dunno yet. Anyone wanna make some donations?:D

Chris Rodgers
02-05-2002, 07:57 PM
Since I will be training for a bench/dead meet, I figure this will be some extra motivation to get my dead to sore. This isn't something we are expecting to happen overnight, we have a lot of work ahead of us.

Any takers?

TreeTrunks
02-05-2002, 08:20 PM
Hmmmmm its tempting. My deadlift is 405@225 right now. I don't think I'll even come close by the deadline whenever that is.

Chris Rodgers
02-05-2002, 08:24 PM
No deadline.

First guy to hit a 3xbw dead wins. The rest just keep going until they hit theirs. Do IT!!!

TreeTrunks
02-05-2002, 08:26 PM
I've always been a sucker to peer pressure! OK I'm in!!

225+225+255=675! Man I don't know

pfft, right. But I'll play!

TreeTrunks
02-05-2002, 08:44 PM
Hehehe I know what you mean belial. I have to get 675 as of right now. But competition is great. It will just make me stronger.

Edit: Reminds me off the song I am listening to right now "The Game" by Motorhead. Or Triple H's entrance song. "Its time to play that game!!"

But why not.......

I think I'll be ok. LOL

At least I have the deadlift guru to keep me goin.

ElPietro

Is there some kinda formula for strength to bodyweight? Thought something like that was floating around a while back. Just wondering as I know that you can't just say that if someone is double your weight they should lift twice as much. I know strength and bodyweight don't increase equally, etc.

Alex.V
02-06-2002, 08:35 AM
Yeah, let's use that!

I still think that these guys who only need to reach 190 to look big and who have a 6" ROM in the deadlift have an unfair advantage.

And I'm gonna whine about it, if you don't mind.

And now I'm going to go eat. hehe.

syntekz
02-06-2002, 08:36 AM
I don't think there is any formula, if there is one. It isn't going to be accurate.

It's going to vary from person to person.

I figure to keep this shiat active since nobody is hitting a 3xbw in the next week or two(except maybe Belial, lol), we should post any deadlifts that we do from now on. Just list your top workset or 2 each time you train the lift. Whether it's for 10 reps or 1 or whatever.

body
02-09-2002, 01:00 PM
485 * 3 (no touching the floor between reps) @ 207-212.
max at 545 pounds 6 months ago. Had a bad back for a while so have only started deading and squating since new years.
to reach 3 times bodyweight probably 660 pounds. Give me two years.

Chris Rodgers
02-09-2002, 02:21 PM
2 years? As the Russian said in Rocky IV, "You will lose" (did he say that??)

Anyway, my goal is to hit the 3xbw of 495@165. I don't weigh 165 now, so I could hit a lower weight at a lower bodyweight. It all depends on how it goes. But you don't have to set a certain weight. You just have to go into the gym on any given day, pull a huge weight and weigh yourself. If it is 3 times what the accurate scale says, you win.

Can I join now...? need some motivations...

My current weight 214lbs and I max 400lbs...
3x bodyweight would be 642lbs... yiiiiikes....:help:

but i'll make it within a year....or less...

heathj
02-14-2002, 02:40 PM
You think your max will increase over 200 lbs. in one year and it's at 400? I don't think so.

Praetorian
02-14-2002, 03:24 PM
What don't you believe..? that my max is 400lbs or that I'll increase 200lbs in one year?

I'll prove you wrong...

heathj
02-14-2002, 04:22 PM
That'll you'll increase 200 lbs. in one year. And no you won't, unless you're on steroids the whole year or you are just starting to weight lift...

Ironman15
02-14-2002, 05:30 PM
Can I join in, although I've hit a 3x dead before and I'm almost there again after gaining 20 lbs? lol.

I weighed myself today at 133 lbs, which means I need to pull up 399. Monday I lifted 365-1 time. I probably could have gone a little higher. This was orginally one of my goals anyways. Hopefully I'll be there by March.

Alex.V

Chris Rodgers

i could bench 3x bw easy if you amputate all my bodyparts below my chest. id need somebody to hold me in place though.

some powerlifter should do this and have a bench/bw ratio record that stands forever.

squatters should chop off their arms or something

young_nasser

working on squatting 5 plates, I did last Friday, just for 1 to feel it out, want to rep it this week...
I also did 150lb dumbell bench for 6, incline db 120lbs for 8, and db shoulder press with 110lbs last week.
For back I did bent BB rows 6x325, onearm db rows 150#x8, bentover rows reverse grip with ez-bar last set I did 275 for 21 reps...then tried not to passout...lol
Deadlift will be this week...at 240lbs I need 720lbs...NO F**CKING WAY...

So I assume they're easier then regular deads, since you could do a 405 single and a 495 mini band...?

Chris Rodgers
03-06-2002, 07:47 AM
They are different, as he said they assist you at the bottom of the movement, but at the top it is all you.

Heath- the 405 was after his speed work and wasn't a max. He has you smoked on deads biatch. :p

Adam
03-06-2002, 01:47 PM
There easier because the bands help you at the bottom. I end up pulling the same on those as a meet just because of the extra adrenalin and so much motivation. the 405 was just something semi heavy because i dont do regular deads much.

See..I don't do deadlifts to max out...I do them for maximum effect to my back...so I keep constant tension by stopping an inch above the floor. I don't need to have a high max to feel good about myself. My 10" does that for me.

if no straps, no belts as well then!
will have to go to a gym where they have decent bars that in the 1st odd inch of the movement the bars does not bend. so I am pulling the weight from the begining not having a staggered weight.

Haha, if my bodyweight goes nowhere like it is now I probably have a shot. I haven't been over 150 since before my meet. I am actually going to set up a ME squat/dl day in about 6 weeks or so to test our max sumo dead. I may go 3xbw that day. We shall see.

Tomorrow we pull conventional from the blocks again.

Alex.V
03-26-2002, 05:22 PM
I'm going for a 3xbw squat.

Fook deads.

Naw, not really fook them, but if I work on my squat and SLDL, and work the deadlift light, I figure I can progress on both without overtraining. Deads are still my favorites, but.... right now I just want to load on those 10 plates on my back and crank out a few reps. :D

Yea, it should still be a goal, my next goal is going to be 3.5xbw. So I'm looking at a 462 dead. Which is 57 lbs more than my max but hopefully I'll be there within a month or two.

I'd like to go for the 3xbw squat. I'm about 55 lbs short of that one.

As for the 2xbw bench, theres no way I'll be the first to reach that one, I only bench 165, so I'm about 100 lbs short on that one, damn weak upperbody.

Adam
04-06-2002, 08:24 PM
I've never maxed squat for a year without the suit so im not sure how much i would get, My hip joints take to much pounding with it on.
I can close grip pause 265 without the shirt and hit 300 in the shirt wide grip
I dont use anything on the deadlift.
And quit the whinning:D

heathj
04-06-2002, 09:16 PM
Stop cheating then :p Hahaha...:D Wonder how much the suit/shirt would help me...I wouldn't ever want to use one for a comp though.

Chris Rodgers
04-07-2002, 03:22 PM
Yo assface, go run a 400 meter dash barefoot and let me know how you do. I wear what is allowed and what the other competitors are wearing.

For the record, I don't own a squat suit. So my max deads and squats are without these aids.

My bench is maybe about 20 lbs less at the moment then what I did in my shirt.

So stfu and go do some 1/2 deads that aren't even from the floor heathgay.

heathj

chris mason
04-08-2002, 09:43 AM
Heath, if they are cheating by using a suit, what do you consider yuor posts of deadlift numbers that are not pulled from the floor. Even an inch off the floor makes a significant difference in what you can lift.

Chris Rodgers
04-08-2002, 10:23 AM
4/8

Reverse band deads(Adam's setup..135 lbs from floor, no help on last 4")

455x1, 495xmiss... got it just over my knees and couldn't lock it.

One arm BB deadlifts- 185x1 Just did these for fun. Grip is definitely the issue here.

Since my hammy still isn't 100%, I'll be using conventionals as my max deadlift stance next Monday. We'll see how that goes.

heathj
04-08-2002, 11:33 AM
I consider that legal Chris. I have never seen an official definition of deadlifts saying that each rep has to be performed off of the ground. I see using a suit as cheating, because it helps with your weaknesses. If you are weak in a certain area, which prevents you from doing more weight, I don't see the point of a suit, which helps you do more weight. If you can't do it, you can't do it, I don't see what the point of a suit is. Basically you aren't doing it...the suit is helping you...it's like having a spotter, basically.

Chris Rodgers
04-08-2002, 11:40 AM
LMAO!!!

How about straps??

Alex.V
04-08-2002, 12:06 PM
Grip is an integral part of the deadlift, so straps can be considered cheating.

Then again, hip strength is an integral part as well, so IMO suits are "cheating".

But at the end of the day, they're competition legal. So who cares.

PowerManDL
04-08-2002, 12:25 PM
So, lets get this straight. Suits, which are competition legal, are cheating. Not touching the floor, which is not competition legal since by nature a 1-rep deadlift comes off the floor, is ok.

Gotcha.

Alex.V
04-08-2002, 12:38 PM
Not touching the floor shouldn't count... Not for the purposes of calculating 1RM. I could probably do 485+ for 8-10 reps without touching the floor (except on the first pull), but probably couldn't yank it off the floor more than two or three times.

chris mason
04-08-2002, 01:10 PM
Exactly. Not pulling from the floor ups your poundage. Heath, using your own logic, not pulling from the floor is cheating. You are completely skipping the hardest part of the movement (off of the floor). A suit only aids certain portions of the ROM, where you are skipping the hardest. Think about what you are saying.

heathj
04-08-2002, 01:17 PM
Using suits is for a competition. I am not training for any sort of competition. So, really, I don't see what you are trying to get at. I am not competing against others...I am competing against myself, so I don't give a **** if I touch the floor or not. It's for different purposes. Not touching the floor? That is the lamest excuse. My first rep is always off the floor and the rest, are not, which I believe helps build my back more effeciently, as keeping tension on it constantly. If I was to do a 1RM, I would be taking it off the floor and not using a suit, therefore I would be doing it all legal without a suit. I don't train my reps for my 1RM max, so I don't have the need to touch the floor now, do I?

PowerManDL
04-08-2002, 01:20 PM
You also wouldn't pull nearly as much as your 435x7 would lead most to believe, either.

heathj
04-08-2002, 01:33 PM
Who said I would? Who said I care? I don't train for maxes.

chris mason
04-08-2002, 01:46 PM
Our point is that you are posting on a thread which involves competition amongst members. Everyone on this thread is posting their lifts in an effort to one-up everyone else. Most of the people post when they are lifting in a style other than what is considered accpetable in a powerlifting competition. Your posts do not say this, thus giving an impression that you are lifting more than you are capable of. I assume you don't clarify because that is the impression you wish to give. I only chimed in here becaue you are calling out other members for "cheating" when you are posting misleading weights, and that smacks of hippocracy. I have no problem with how you deadlift, I only have a problem with what you said to the others (and not a big problem at that).

heathj
04-08-2002, 02:17 PM
Well first of all, I was being a tad facetious when I say 'cheating' cause I always poke fun at them for wearing suits. But I am saying it may be unfair if they out-deadlift me and win the competition by using a suit and I'm not. That's all I'm saying. We should split it up between suit and non-suit..or something. I am trying to be misleading? No, I always say that I don't touch the ground, everyone knows it.

Adam
04-08-2002, 02:19 PM

Huh? Rephrase:)

body
04-08-2002, 04:40 PM
heath did say ages ago he goes a inch off the floor.

I do the fisrt rep off the floor, then following reps about a inch off the floor (sometimes the weight taps the floors) but I thought this would be harder as the A) tension is always on B) you can drive a tiny bit before pulling the weight, when starting from the floor and can re-set. getting your legs down further C) I have to really control the weight down more as most people I see who let it touch the floor let the last bit drop.

I have never tried starting from the floor each rep, so do not have any experince otherwise. may give it a go to see how different it is.

Matters what your weak llinks are. I've tried straps and they make it harder for me to hold onto weight but so far on deads ive had no grip problems

4x bw dead. I will put on a bit of muscle for that goal. so I would have to dead about 920 pounds. how far is that off a world record, for some one who can pass a urine test?
