I've been reading here for quite some time.. I even tried to search button, but I really could not find nothing useful... I started to deadlift about 2 months ago.. Right now I am cutting so I try doing 5x5's.... My forearms are pretty huge... But everytime I try to deadlift 225.. My grip goes out... I feel like my back and the rest of my body can go on, but I always end up just barely holding it over my finger tips (not intentionally) by the fourth rep and I have to drop it.. I don't want to use those wrist grip thingies... Because they will not help me exceed in the long run. Any advice? Also does alternating between your grip help? Any grip exercises that can help...?

Static holds, farmers walk and grippers.

What's your dead routine like?

do a mixed grip (one palm out, one in), that will help tremendously. and a 5x5 while cutting might wear u out, i know some people can't handle it with squats and deads during a cut and mostly use it during a bulk, but if ur good with the amount then go u! but yeah, mixed grip. and get some chalk, it'll help tremendously. do some static holds (hold heavy heavy weight for as long as u can), and/or farmer's walks, and/or plate pinches.

Try a mixed grip. That should help alot.

i dont agree with the mixed grip thing - if you dont have chalk, an your training in a cooked up sweaty gym, your grip will generally end up slipping at some point, this happened to me once a while back, so i changed to mixed grip

The end result is that whenever my back is over worked i get pains in my lower back to the left hand side, an then pains in the middle of my back to the right hand side - i feel this is because of the mixed grip, its not a natural position

my injuries are not massively serious, they just keep coming up every now an then - from now on i dont plan on using mixed grip ever again

I prefer the mixed grip and I alternate each set. Chalk does help alot.

Or your form could have been off.
Your grip shouldn't have anything to do with your back.

I use a mixed grip, and I have no issues and many people would tell you the same.

I feel mixed to be more "natual feeling" than double overhand but I guess it's just the individual.

when i first noticed these injuries it was a day after i did deadlift an i had all my sets on video, i couldnt see anything wrong with the form

using a mixed grip causes me to sorta push my right lat inwards an scrunch up somewhat, double overhand feels much more natural for me personally
