View Full Version : How much weight do you immediately add from cut to bulk?

Every time I go from bulking to cutting, I spend the first week gaining a lot of weight. But, I never know exactly how much of this is water/glycogen storage/etc(?) and how much is muscle.

If I'm not water depleting and I'm just going from, say 2500 calories to 4750 (while on creatine the whole time), how many pounds would you expect me (at 220-225 lbs) to gain between each cut to bulk?

I was 211 depleted when I started. Went from 2000 to 4000 and in 7 days I was up to 224. So for me it was about 13lbs.

You might not be the best example.

Holto, I understand what you are saying but that was before any assistance. I started bulking a week before that.

He is pretty close to what I was. I gained about 9 - 10 after a week.

I started doing an actual real bulk about a month ago, tracking my calories, eating about 500 over maint. Is it normal to feel like you got fat after those first weeks? I can see myself getting bigger muscle wise, but the stomach seems bloated.

I'm 2.5 weeks in, and feel fat but ohh well. I look bloated and stomach sticks out, but definition in arms and legs is better then ever. If that starts to fade then I'll cut cals back, but even though my stomach looks like crap, I just have to accept that for now.

If I look at myself in the mirror in the morning, I always look a lot bigger/leaner during a bulk over during a cut. I think this has to do with glycogen levels being up during a bulk and subsequently causing your muscles to look/be bigger.

Also, over the first week I only gained about 5 lbs between my cut (which lasted only 2 weeks and wasn't super hardcore) and my bulk. 13 is a lot! I wonder what factors come into play here ...

LBM, glycogen depletion, hydration, water retention, waste levels. 13lbs is alot but that is going from fully depleted to fully loaded.
